KARACHI:
As part of ongoing International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2024, a magnificent Karachi show was organised for the citizens at Nishan Pakistan Park Sea View. The three armed forces demonstrated their combat capabilities in the event.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah attended the event as a chief guest, and Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf was also present at the event.
Commandos of Pakistan Navy's Special Services Group demonstrated counter-terrorism exercise, during which armed terrorist enter a facility. Commandos were landed to shore by Sea King helicopter after terrorists armed with modern weapons entered a facility. Commandos approached the target from open sea using Navy hovercraft and speedboats and caught the terrorists.
Paratroopers of the three armed forces, carrying Green Crescent Flag conducted a free-fall from 10,000 feet followed by a rainbow-coloured parachute descent.
Military personnel who had sacrificed their body parts in battle field and during mine clearance operations participated in a basketball match.
A cavalry troop also performed a stunning horse-riding demonstration.
Addressing the audience at the Nishan-e-Pakistan monument, the chief minister stressed Pakistan's unwavering commitment to peace, underscoring the theme of this year's exhibition, "Arms for Peace."
IDEAS 2024, which brought together senior military officials, defence experts, diplomats, and industry leaders from around the world, offered a platform for fostering dialogue on critical global issues, including security, peace, and cooperation.
In his address, CM Shah expressed heartfelt gratitude to the international delegates for their participation. He highlighted that their presence reflected the importance of mutual collaboration in addressing shared challenges. "Events like these remind us of our collective responsibility in promoting peace, stability, and diplomacy across the globe," he added.
A standout feature of IDEAS 2024 was the Karachi Show, a live demonstration by Pakistan's armed forces, which included the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The CM noted that the show vividly highlighted Pakistan's readiness to defend its borders and uphold the values of freedom and democracy. In particular, special recognition was given to the Pakistan Navy for its impeccable display of professionalism and dedication to safeguarding the nation's maritime interests.
"Pakistan's military capabilities serve as a deterrent to aggression, not as a tool for conflict," CM Shah reiterated. He reaffirmed that the nation's approach of "strength for peace" remains central to its defence philosophy. "Our goal is not war, but peace and stability," he added.
IDEAS 2024 also provided a platform for Pakistan to demonstrate its progress in the defence sector, particularly in terms of indigenous military technology. The exhibition showcased products meeting international standards, underscoring Pakistan's strides toward self-reliance and technological advancement. Delegates from various countries explored avenues for cooperation, particularly in tackling shared global challenges such as terrorism, cybersecurity, climate change, and maritime security.
The chief minister concluded his address by emphasising the role of Karachi as a strategic hub for global maritime security and a host city for international events of such significance. He thanked the people of Karachi for their unwavering support and enthusiasm, which played a key role in the success of the event.
"The participation of our international guests is a powerful testament to the importance of dialogue and shared responsibility in maintaining regional and global security," CM Shah said. "Together, we can forge stronger partnerships, promote peace, and ensure a safer, more prosperous future for generations to come."

Johnny Somali faces 31 years in South Korea after new deepfake sex crime charge

Streamer Johnny Somali, real name Ramsey Khalid Ismael, could face up to 31 years in prison in South Korea following a new sex crime charge reported on May 8, 2025. The charge adds to a growing list of legal issues for the American content creator, whose controversial behaviour abroad has repeatedly drawn legal scrutiny. Ismael, who previously streamed in Japan and Israel, travelled to South Korea in 2024, where his disruptive broadcasts included harassing locals, interrupting businesses, and provoking other streamers. One notable incident led to him being knocked out by a former Korean Navy SEAL, who was later fined for the assault. Ismael was initially charged for allegedly distributing a deepfake video depicting himself kissing popular Korean streamer BongBong. Legal Mindset, a YouTube lawyer and commentator, reported that a second deepfake charge has now been filed, likely involving additional Korean figures with whom Ismael had online altercations. In South Korea, distributing deepfakes is considered a sex crime, with each count carrying a maximum penalty of 10.5 years. Combined with a guilty plea to one count of Obstruction of Business—which carries a maximum sentence of five years—Ismael now faces up to 31 years behind bars if convicted on all charges. He also faces another pending charge under the same statute. Additional allegations against Ismael, including threats to spread HIV, promoting North Korean propaganda, and violating anti-terrorism laws, remain under investigation. As of now, these claims have not resulted in formal charges. The legal proceedings continue as authorities evaluate further actions in response to his activities in South Korea.

Hania Aamir warns of users impersonating her

In an Instagram Story shared on Wednesday, Hania Aamir clarified that her public account (@haniaheheofficial) is her one and only Instagram handle, requesting her followers not to interact with any other accounts claiming to be her. "This is the only account I have on Instagram. In case anyone is getting any requests from other accounts posing as me, please report them. Thank you," she wrote. Criticising the move, netizens were quick to question Hania for following a now-deactivated account, @naaamtousunahogaa. They also linked the Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum star to the account due to its posts, which prominently featured her. "Then why did she follow the account and deactivated it?" a user wondered. Hania also drew backlash for posting the personal update while the country wards off war. "There are more important things in the world, Miss Hania," a user wrote, while another said, "Seriously, even now she's thinking about her account?" Earlier, the Janaan actor publicly refuted a viral social media post falsely attributed to her in the wake of the attack in Pahalgam. The fake post, which circulated widely across Instagram and X, claimed Hania blamed the Pakistan Army for the attack and appealed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to spare Pakistani civilians in the aftermath. The alleged post, styled to look like an Instagram Story from the actor's account, accused Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, of orchestrating the violence. It also urged the Indian government to differentiate between military decisions and the sentiments of the Pakistani public. But Hania firmly denounced the quote, calling it entirely fabricated and misrepresentative of her views. "Recently, a statement has been falsely attributed to me and is being widely circulated on social media. I want to address this directly: I did not make this statement, and I do not endorse or align with the words being linked to me," she clarified in a statement shared on her verified Instagram account. "It is entirely fabricated and misrepresents who I am and what I believe." Hania was also among the Pakistani celebrities who condemned the attack, mourning the lives lost though not without defending her country against unverified claims. "In times like these, it's easy to let emotions cloud our judgment," she wrote, "but we must remember: the actions of extremists do not represent an entire nation or its people. Assigning blame without proof only deepens divides and distracts from the real need for compassion, justice, and healing."
