Concert held to raise money for LA wildfire survivors
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. - Hundreds gathered at The Canyon in Agoura Hills for a benefit concert aimed at helping fire survivors, bringing together music, dancing, and community support.
"We've really seen a big outpouring from the community, as you can see—the place is packed! It's been wonderful, and we're just doing everything we can to give back," said Stephanie Wachs, director of outreach for the Get Together Foundation. She added that similar events take about three months to plan, while this was organized in just two weeks.
The LA-based nonprofit organized the Show of Helping Hands, uniting musicians to raise funds for those affected by the recent wildfires.
"We realized after talking to countless individuals that what people really need right now is money—they are starting over," Wachs said. "We specifically went through and hand-selected families who have young children at home, disabled children at home, families who have lost their schools, first homes—everything in their community, and often in places where fire insurance has been restrictive. We just wanted to make sure that was going directly into them." The nonprofit also selected small business employees who not only lost their homes but their incomes as well.
Proceeds from ticket sales, donations, and a private auction will also support the Guitar Center Music Foundation and the Widows, Orphans, and Disabled Firefighters Fund.
For many Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters in attendance, it was their first night off in 21 days.
"This is just an incredible outpouring of support from the local communities," said LAFD Captain Erik Scott.
Scott noted that the devastation was unprecedented.
"It's the largest natural disaster to hit LA, so the fact that so many people have come together tonight and have opened up their checkbooks and they're giving money not to the fire department—but to the people that need it the most—is just a beautiful example of human helping human," he said.
Attendees traveled from across the region to support the cause and enjoy the music.
"Happy to be here, happy to help the folks who need the help," said Barbara Eisley of Santa Barbara.
Gayle Wunsch of Studio City, a fire survivor herself, emphasized how much events like these mean to those who have lost everything.
"This is such an important cause to come out and really help all these fire victims, and I'm happy to be here—we survived a fire—we know it's tough for all of us," she said.

Teofimo Lopez Abandons Devin Haney Fight, Leaving Fans With Questions
Teofimo Lopez Abandons Devin Haney Fight, Leaving Fans With Questions originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Devin Haney was looking forward to clashing with Teofimo in August, but despite him signing his part of the deal, Lopez has had a sudden change of mind. Advertisement A few days ago, when Teofimo Lopez fell out with Turki Alalshikh, a Saudi Arabian-based boxing promoter, he took to his social media page to announce that he was fired and that he was looking for a new job. Hours later, he apologized to Turki and showed regret about his actions. 'To His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, I take full responsibility for my inappropriate words on the X app; I publicly apologize to HE; I will conduct myself with greater respect, humility, and professionalism. Sending love and light to all,' said Lopez on X. Hours ago, a bout for Lopez and Haney was confirmed and scheduled for August 16 in Saudi Arabia. Unfortunately, Lopez has had a change of heart. 'Dear John, Haney's! This is to gently advise you that Teofimo Lopez has withdrawn from the fight, as we'd like to thank you for your efforts and professionalism throughout the process,' said Bill Haney on an X repost. Devin went further and clarified that he was the one who had signed his part; Lopez's was still pending. 'The fight with Teo is not signed! I signed my part, and Teo has been stalling. As of today, he has decided he doesn't want to fight me; he's officially the biggest duck with a thumbs down emoji,' said Devin on X. Lopez hasn't given an explanation why he doesn't want to fight Haney. 'I'm looking to work with a company in the retail industry to launch and expand my 'make boxing great again' brand and other ideas I am working on. Tag a retail company you'd like to see in collaboration and wear as your own,' said Lopez on X. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 8, 2025, where it first appeared.

Patchy Mix predicts rebound after upset loss to Mario Bautista in debut at UFC 316
Patchy Mix predicts rebound after upset loss to Mario Bautista in debut at UFC 316 Patchy Mix experienced what many other first-time UFC fighters go through Saturday. After UFC 316, the former Bellator bantamweight champion acknowledged the disappointment and said he'll rebound. Mix (20-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) made his highly anticipated promotional debut at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., as a betting favorite against Mario Bautista (16-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC), but never seemed to get started in a unanimous decision loss (30-27, 30-27, 29-28). "Tough night for me in the office," Mix posted on Facebook. "But I appreciate the people that have supported and been along for the ride. Would have liked to do more and made adjustments. I will come back stronger from this moment." Bautista outstruck Mix every round and won his eighth straight fight. The victory is on the heels of a decision win over former featherweight champion Jose Aldo. Mix, whose fiancee is recent UFC women's flyweight title challenger Tatiana Suarez, had not fought in a little more than a year after an unceremonious exit from the PFL after it bought Bellator and folded the promotion. Mix was about a 2-1 betting favorite in the fight, and the consensus was that he would beat Bautista and might even find himself promptly in the bantamweight title picture. In fact, his manager predicted that might be the case with a win. In the MMA Junkie reader predictions, Mix got nearly 80 percent of the vote, and he was a unanimous pick from MMA Junkie's 11 staff members. The 31-year-old Las Vegas-based Mix hadn't lost since 2020, when he was upset by Juan Archuleta in Bellator's bantamweight tournament. But less than three years later, he won Bellator's belt and a $1 million prize against Raufeon Stots, then had title defenses against Sergio Pettis and Magomed Magomedov before he arrived in the UFC.
