LBC spark fury with pro-Israel report on seizure of Madleen Gaza ship
Overnight, Israel captured the Madleen ship, part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, which had been headed to Gaza to deliver a 'symbolic' amount of aid.
Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, French MEP Rima Hassan, and journalist Omar Faiad were among the 12 people on board, who were all detained by Israel, reportedly in international waters.
The ship was flying the UK red ensign, meaning it was under the UK Government's jurisdiction, and Labour are facing calls to act.

Israel's government labelled the aid mission a 'selfie yacht' in a bid to undermine the activists and journalists, who had been aiming to highlight or even break the blockade Israel has imposed on Gaza, sparking fears of famine in the region.
Israel Katz, the country's defence minister, said that the detained activists would be made to watch a film about the October 7 attacks after arriving in Ashdod, a port city some 17 miles north of Gaza.
Reporting on the developing situation, LBC published a story which began: 'Israeli forces have put an end to Greta Thunberg's 'Freedom Flotilla' stunt.'
On social media, the story was shared with the caption: 'Greta Thunberg's 'selfie yacht' stunt brought to an end as boat is intercepted – and Israel will force those on board to watch harrowing video of October 7.'
The framing has been widely criticised, including by human rights lawyers and activists.
This is the reprehensible level the British media has stooped to. An act of piracy and kidnapping described as this.
Beyond parody. This is where we are. https://t.co/taA3gNtQjZ — liam cunningham (@liamcunningham1) June 9, 2025
Irish actor Liam Cunningham, known for appearing in Game of Thrones, shared the LBC and wrote: 'This is the reprehensible level the British media has stooped to. An act of piracy and kidnapping described as this.
'Beyond parody. This is where we are.'
Shoaib M Khan, a lawyer who chairs the Human Rights Lawyers Association, said: 'Not that LBC has much credibility left now, but what a disgusting way of describing a genocidal regime forcibly taking over a British-flagged vessel and kidnapping the people trying to deliver aid.'
Zara Mohammed, the former general secretary of the Muslim Council of Britain, said: 'Cannot believe the framing of this from LBC, only when you click the article do you read these are the IDF lines…'

Author and journalist Ash Sarkar added: 'This kind of editorial framing is the lowest of the low.
'It is fundamentally misleading ('selfie yacht'), takes the position of the Israeli government as fact, and has virtually 0 informational content.
'Embarrassing from LBC.'
LBC has been approached for comment.
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition, which had organised the voyage, said the activists were 'kidnapped by Israeli forces' while trying to deliver desperately needed aid to the territory.
SOS! the volunteers on 'Madleen' have been kidnapped by Israeli forces.

'The ship was unlawfully boarded, its unarmed civilian crew abducted, and its life-saving cargo — including baby formula, food and medical supplies —confiscated,' it said in a statement.
Israel is illegally occupying Gaza and prevents any international media from entering the Palestinian region.
Since the Hamas attacks of October 7, Israel has killed more than 54,000 Palestinians, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which has said women and children make up most of the dead.
Israel has also destroyed vast areas of Gaza and displaced around 90% of the territory's population, leaving people there almost completely dependent on international aid.
It has announced plans to take control of the Palestinian land, which would represent further breaches of international law.
Who is on board the Madleen?
There are twelve civilian crew members on board the ship, which is flying the UK flag.

Israel deports Greta Thunberg after seizing Gaza-bound ship
Ms Thunberg left on a flight to France before heading to her home country of Sweden, the foreign ministry posted on X. It added a photo of Thunberg, a climate activist who shuns air travel, seated on a plane. Ms Thunberg arrived from Israel at Charles de Gaulle airport (AP) Speaking upon arrival at Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport, Ms Thunberg called for the release of the other activists who were detained aboard the Freedom Flotilla. She described a 'quite chaotic and uncertain' situation during the detention. The activist added the conditions they faced 'are absolutely nothing compared to what people are going through in Palestine and especially Gaza right now'. Greta Thunberg just departed Israel on a flight to Sweden (via France). — Israel Foreign Ministry (@IsraelMFA) June 10, 2025 'We were well aware of the risks of this mission,' Ms Thunberg added. 'The aim was to get to Gaza and to be able to distribute the aid.' She said the activists would continue trying to get aid to Gaza. Climate activist Greta Thunberg was on board the Madleen boat (AP) Ms Thunberg was one of 12 passengers on the Madleen, a ship carrying aid to Gaza that was meant to protest against Israel's ongoing war there and shed light on the humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian territory, according to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, the group behind the journey. Israeli naval forces seized the boat without incident early on Monday about 125 miles off of Gaza's coast, according to the coalition, which along with rights groups, said Israel's actions were a violation of international law. Israel rejects that charge because it says such ships intend to breach what it argues is a lawful naval blockade of Gaza. The boat, accompanied by Israel's navy, arrived in the Israeli port of Ashdod on Monday evening, according to the foreign ministry. Ms Thunberg sailed for Gaza along with activists of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (AP) The Freedom Flotilla Coalition said three activists, including Ms Thunberg, had been deported along with a journalist. It said it had encouraged some of the group to do this so they could speak freely about their experiences. Eight other passengers refused deportation and were being held in detention before their case is to be heard by Israeli authorities. Adalah, a legal rights group in Israel representing the activists, said the eight were expected to be brought before a court later on Tuesday. 'Their detention is unlawful, politically motivated and a direct violation of international law,' the coalition said in a statement. It called for the remaining passengers to be released without deportation and said their lawyers would demand that they be allowed to complete their journey to Gaza. Sabine Haddad, a spokeswoman for Israel's interior ministry, said the activists who were being deported Tuesday had waived their right to appear before a judge. Those who did not will face one and will be held for 96 hours before being deported, she said.

Who could be one of the DJs in the VIP stage and could they become the next UK prime minister? Here are your last minute-rumours ahead of Parklife 2025 this weekend in Manchester Forget Glastonbury Festival rumours for one week (please!), as we look to the more immediate future: Parklife 2025 in Manchester this week. While there's still guesswork involved who might be Patchwork and who else might fill those TBA slots at Worthy Farm, things seem a little less speculative when it comes to this weekend's event at Heaton Park, with the full timetable now available through the official Parklife app. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad That doesn't mean there won't be any surprises this year, though. Instead of solely looking at secret sets, we've taken a look through Reddit and the depths of social media to see who people think might make a guest appearance at Parklife this year. Be it Lorde or French house icons teaming up with a 'brat,' or a guerrilla gig potentially before or after what will be an incredibly lively set, here's five rumours currently doing the rounds before festival-goers converge on Manchester this weekend Last minute Parklife 2025 rumours From who could guest with Charli XCX to who might play a guerrilla gig this weekend; here's a round up of the last minute rumours for Parklife 2025. | Getty Images Will Lorde or Air join Charli XCX this weekend? There has been increased speculation that New Zealand musician Lorde could make a surprise appearance during Charli XCX's set. The singer, on the brink of releasing her brand new album, Virgin, has featured regularly alongside Charli XCX in recent months, thanks to their stunning collaborative effort Girl, So Confusing . Lorde was even seen on stage during both of the BRAT performer's Coachella 2025 sets in April. Given their recent proximity and obvious chemistry, a repeat performance in Manchester is high on many fans' wish lists. Lorde is due to play a full UK tour in November 2025, but a quick pop-up this weekend isn't out of the question for a collaborator. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad But could an appearance by French dance giants Air be on the cards too? Charli XCX famously performed with the duo in Paris during their June 8, 2025 show. With Air's next tour date taking place in Dublin on June 17, 2025 – just two days after Parklife – a quick journey across the Irish Sea could certainly be in order for a surprise cameo. Who could perform alongside 50 Cent as he returns to the United Kingdom? Though wishful thinking means some hope either Eminem or Dr. Dre makes an appearance at Parklife 2025, there are still members of 50 Cent's G-Unit who could make the trip to appear on stage with him. The name Tony Yayo frequently gets mentioned, owing to him being the most consistent member of G-Unit alongside 50 Cent and having regularly appeared with the rapper. However, some think another core member, Lloyd Banks , could also be a guest during the set. Neither artist currently has independent tour dates scheduled, and if Fiddy is bringing any of the crew, those two names are highly probable. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Could Jora Smith bring on a who's who of UK rap icons? Jorja Smith's soulful R&B often blends seamlessly with the UK's vibrant rap and grime scenes. Fans are hoping she might invite some of her esteemed collaborators to share the stage. A top contender is Loyle Carner , with whom she released the acclaimed Loose Ends, and a joint performance would be a smooth and well-received addition to her set. What's more, there's significant buzz around AJ Tracey . The pair just reunited for their brand new single Crush in February 2025, and their chemistry is undeniable – a surprise live rendition of this fresh track would send the crowd wild. While a cameo from giants like Stormzy would be truly monumental, such high-profile appearances are often closely guarded secrets, and a full "who's who" might be as wishful as some of the wildest 50 Cent reunion rumours. However, with Jorja's extensive network of influential UK artists, her set remains a hotbed for potential unexpected collaborations. With a history of guerrilla gigs, will Loopdaddy take to the streets of Manchester? One of the highlights I'll be missing out on could potentially sneak a set on the streets of Manchester this weekend. We're talking about Loopdaddy himself, Marc Rebillet. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Given his official festival slot at Parklife in Manchester, it wouldn't be out of character for the incredibly fun producer to set up a quick, unannounced performance in a public space before or after his main set. Perhaps a quick gig at Victoria or Piccadilly Station could be something fans traveling to the event might spot? Guest DJs on the VIP Stage; is Andy Burnham about to spin the decks? Official Parklife information often explicitly mentions 'VIP DJs and special guests playing on the VIP stage, which is separate from the rest of the festival.' There's also the new Backstage Ticket which grants 'on-stage access at The Hangar stage' and access to 'exclusive VIP area with luxury loos, charging points, and a street food market and VIP cocktail bar.' While not a 'secret' headliner per se, this does pose a unique opportunity for some very important people to step into the DJ booth and lay on some tunes for those with the privilege to be there – and of all the names we've mentioned, why not add Andy Burnham as one of those potential guest DJs? Known for his own occasional DJ sets at local venues, it's not entirely out of the question for Burnham to pop up for a quick, unannounced turn on the decks. Former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was well-known in Auckland for getting behind the decks before standing in front of the world as the then-leader of Aotearoa Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Do you have an event you'd like to share with us?
