Tributes have been paid to a young man killed in a Scots horror crash as his family say that he will be 'forever missed'. Emergency crews raced to B742 south of Dalrymple near Maybole in Ayrshire at around 12.50am on Monday, April 21 after receiving reports of an incident involving a black BMW one series car. They discovered the driver of the car, Ewan MacDonald, 24, from the local Maybole area, who was then pronounced dead at the scene. His family have asked for privacy but have released his picture and a touching tribute in his honour. It read: 'Ewan will be forever missed . We are so grateful for all the love, support and kindness shown from our family, friends and community.' Police Scotland are now appealing for more information following the fatal crash and have asked anyone who may have witnessed it to come forward. Sergeant Scott Gourlay said: 'Our thoughts are with Ewan's family and friends. 'Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and I ask anyone who has not spoken to the police already and saw what happened to contact us. 'I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have dash-cam or CCTV which could assist to get in touch.' Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 0138 of Monday, 21 April, 2025. Elsewhere, in a separate incident, we reported that a "devoted grandfather" was killed in a crash involving a truck near Huntly on Wednesday, April 23. Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle collision between a black Skoda Kamiq and a white Iveco truck on the A96 Aberdeen to Elgin road. The Skoda driver was pronounced dead at the scene . He has been named as 78-year-old Keith Looseley from Aberdeenshire. His devastated family paid tribute to the former RAF pilot who was "a much-loved grandfather". They said: "Keith was a former RAF pilot who had lived in Gartly for over 25 years. He was an active and valued member of the local community who volunteered with Gordon Rural Action and Morayvia aviation museum. "Keith was a devoted and much-loved father, grandfather, brother and son and his loss is felt deeply by all who knew him." A 14-year-old French schoolboy is facing 20 eyars in prison after allegedly stabbing a teaching assistant to death after she asked to search his bag for weapons. A young teaching assistant who was stabbed to death by a teenage pupil in a horror knife attack at a school in France has been pictured for the first time. Known only as Melanie G, the single mum and former hairdresser, was looking for concealed weapons alongside a police officer - in line with national education policy - at the gates of Françoise Dolto secondary school in Nogent-sur-Marne, near Paris when the horror unfolded around 8.30am on Tuesday, reports the Mirror. She had only started the job last year, giving up her career in hairdressing to spend more time with her little boy. French police say the 14-year-old schoolboy was tonight facing 20 years in prison after allegedly stabbing the 31-year-old teaching assistant to death after she asked to search his bag for knives. The incident followed a spate of school knife attacks in France, including one in April, when a teenage girl was stabbed to death and three others were wounded at a school in Nantes, in the west of the country. A source investigating the Nogent attack said: "The boy responsible was uninjured, after stabbing his victim multiple times. He was soon restrained by staff, and then arrested by the police officer present at the bag check." The source added: "One of the arresting officers suffered a slight cut to the hand." Referring to the alleged killer, the source said: "He is now in custody, and facing up to 20 years in prison if found guilty in a youth court of a deliberate killing." Local prosecutor Denis Devallois confirmed that a criminal enquiry had been launched into the killing, and that the perpetrator faced prison. The boy who cannot be named for legal reasons had been arrested twive from the school for disruptive behaviour, and was a student representative in the school's anti-bullying programme, claimed the source. Following today's killing, French President Emmanuel Macron described a "senseless wave of violence" in France. He added: "We all stand with [Melanie G.'s] family, her loved ones, her colleagues and the entire educational community. The nation is in mourning and the government is mobilised to reduce crime." Paying tribute, her sister-in-law said: "She was funny, gentle, and very kind, and had one goal – to look after her child. She gave up hairdressing because she wanted more days off to be with him." MoD ‘dishonest' to call 1994 Chinook crash an accident, say families
The families of people killed in the 1994 Chinook helicopter disaster have criticised the Ministry of Defence's description of the crash as a 'tragic accident' as 'dishonest, deceitful and disingenuous'. RAF Chinook ZD576 was carrying 25 British intelligence personnel from RAF Aldergrove in Northern Ireland to a conference at Fort George near Inverness when it crashed in foggy weather on June 2 1994 on the Mull of Kintyre, Scotland. All 25 passengers – made up of personnel from MI5, the Royal Ulster Constabulary and the British Army – were killed, along with the helicopter's four crew members. The families of those who died said earlier this month that they were beginning legal action against the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for not ordering a public inquiry. They want a High Court judge to be able to review information which they say was not included in previous investigations, and which they believe will shed new light on the airworthiness of the helicopter. The families, who have coalesced into the Chinook Justice Campaign, said failing to order a public inquiry is a breach of the UK Government's human rights obligations. An MoD spokesperson said: 'The Mull of Kintyre crash was a tragic accident, and our thoughts and sympathies remain with the families, friends and colleagues of all those who died. 'We have received a pre-action protocol letter from the Chinook Justice Campaign and are considering our response. Therefore, it would be inappropriate to comment further.' Solicitor Mark Stephens, who is representing the families, said: 'The statements issued by the Ministry of Defence in recent days are so blatantly at odds with the facts as we now know them that they have caused immense upset to the families and cast a further cruel and disgraceful shadow on this ongoing travesty of justice. 'We know that the RAF helicopter carrying the 29 service personnel who were killed, serving their country, had been grounded because of fatal flaws in the software on board. 'For the MoD to claim that this was a 'tragic accident' flies in the face of the facts and is blatantly and disgracefully at odds with the truth. 'It is nothing short of dishonest, deceitful and disingenuous and we demand a retraction.' The families have also called for the release of documents that were sealed at the time of the crash for 100 years, something revealed in a BBC documentary last year. The MoD has said that records held in the National Archives contain personal information and early release of those documents would breach their data protection rights. Mr Stephens said: 'For the Government to believe that data protection laws were designed to protect someone who is living – and who may have made a dreadful decision that night – rather than the truth emerging over 29 service personnel who were killed in an unairworthy aircraft, is a total abomination. 'This decision must be overturned, these files must be seen by a judge, and we will fight this in court if necessary.' Niven Phoenix, a commercial pilot whose father Ian was one of the senior RUC officers killed in the crash, said: 'This was about as far from a tragic accident as you could get. Locking the files away until we are all dead proves there is a cover-up about something. 'The MoD's statement that these files have been sealed to protect third party interests is yet another disingenuous, distasteful and outright dishonest assertion designed to hide the truth using data protection laws which only came into force in the UK long after the crash. 'The Government would prefer for all the children of the Chinook victims to die like their parents rather than provide access, answers and take accountability for past mistakes. This is not the duty of candour promised by Keir Starmer in his election manifesto.' Following the crash, the Chinook's pilots, Flight Lieutenants Richard Cook and Jonathan Tapper, were accused of gross negligence, but this verdict was overturned by the UK Government 17 years later, following a campaign by the families. A subsequent review by Lord Philip set out 'numerous concerns' raised by those who worked on the Chinooks, with the MoD's testing centre at Boscombe Down in Wiltshire declaring the Chinook Mk2 helicopters 'unairworthy' prior to the crash.

Police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann may have uncovered a major breakthrough after 'new evidence' reportedly linked the missing toddler to prime suspect Christian Brueckner. Authorities in Germany and Portugal spent three days last week scouring a 120-acre patch of land in Lagos, just 30 miles from Praia da Luz where three-year-old Madeleine vanished in May 2007. According to local reports, 'several objects' — including clothing, debris and bones — were recovered during the intense search of scrubland, derelict buildings and a crumbling farmhouse. A source told the Berlin Morning Post: "Several objects have apparently been discovered, which are now being examined in more detail by the police in the laboratory. As Portuguese media report, clothing debris and bones were found, among other things.' The search, carried out at the request of German federal police, focused on gathering fresh evidence that could finally implicate Brueckner, a convicted sex offender long suspected in the case. Disturbing new details about Brueckner have come to light in a recent documentary, including horrifying finds in his lair — such as images of children in swimming costumes, toddler toys, and sick kidnapping fantasies he had written out, including one where he uses chemical ether to abduct a mother and child. The documentary also reveals a harrowing quote allegedly made by Brueckner while discussing Madeleine with an associate: 'She did not scream.' In another chilling passage, he reportedly writes: 'A very small girl enters the room. She's definitely not older than five.' Professor Robert Green, Forensic Science expert at the University of Kent, told The Mirror: 'The authorities' decision to carry out a new search, it is likely influenced by the accumulation of new evidence and information that may have come to light, particularly from recent documentaries and interviews. 'As for the hard drive, if it contains incriminating evidence, it may indeed serve as a 'smoking gun' for investigators. Digital evidence often provides invaluable insights into a suspect's activities, intentions, and potential connections to criminal cases. Should the contents be substantial, they could significantly strengthen the case against Brueckner. 'The rationale behind the renewed search could stem from the ongoing pursuit of justice in the Madeleine McCann case and the hope that any additional evidence could lead to a breakthrough.' The new findings have reignited global interest in the case, as Madeleine's family and investigators continue their 18-year fight for justice.
