I tested powders at all price points – the cheapest option has gone straight into my handbag
THE warm weather has been playing havoc with my make-up, the battle to stop it sweating off having already begun.
A glow-boosting setting powder that does not make my skin look matte could be the solution, so I put three to the test.
Budget
E.l.f. Cosmetics Halo Glow Powder Filter, £14 for 10g, elfcosmetics.co.uk
Before even trying the powder, I was super-impressed that it comes in 12 shades.
That is by far the most of those I tried, which is rarely the case for an affordable product as brands often skimp on shade range to shave costs.
In the pan I was worried it might be glittery, but on my face it left a great soft-focus glow.
The tinted powder also added some coverage to help blur over a couple of spots I am currently trying to evict from my chin.
It has gone straight into my handbag for on-the-go touch-ups. I just wish there was a mirror in the compact.
Mid-range
Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Brightening Flawless Finish Powder, £39 for 9g, selfridges.com
As a major fan of Charlotte Tilbury 's OG Airbrush Setting Powder, which is hands down the best on the market, I had high hopes for this brightening version.
Disappointingly, it comes in just two shades. They are more translucent than the E.l.f. powder, so they do stretch to cover more skin tones.
But this is half the number of the brand's non-radiant offering.
Can coloured mascaras help turn back the clock?
When I put it on my face, I noticed shimmery particles, which gave the game away and made me look festival ready rather than lit from within.
If your skin is less oily than mine, that might not be as much of an issue, but I will be retiring it for now.
Luxury
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder, £52 for 10g, spacenk.com
Hourglass changed the setting-powder game with its light-reflecting, radiance-boosting powders more than a decade ago, so I am well aware of how brilliant this product is.
There are eight shades and you will find that more than one works for every skin tone.
It is very finely milled, so skin does not look at all powdery.
But I find if I use it, I've got to carry blotting papers to keep shine under control.
If you have super-oily skin, you can layer it on top of a traditional setting powder. Given the price tag, this feels like a lot of work.

Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa, actress Dame Judi Dench and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai have added their names to an open letter urging the Prime Minister to suspend arms sales to Israel. The trio are among a number of celebrities who have added their signatories to the letter, published by refugee charity Choose Love last month, and already signed by stars including Dua Lipa and Benedict Cumberbatch. Some 400 people have now signed the letter, with the new signatories including actors Stanley Tucci and Florence Pugh, former England rugby captain Chris Robshaw and musicians Paul Weller and Self Esteem. As well as suspending UK arms sales to Israel, the letter calls on Sir Keir Starmer to 'use all available means' to ensure humanitarian aid gets in to the territory. It also urges the Prime Minister to 'make a commitment to the children of Gaza' that he would broker an 'immediate and permanent ceasefire'. Josie Naughton, CEO of Choose Love, said: 'Since we urged the Government to end its complicity in the horrors of Gaza, more people have added their voice to our call. 'We cannot be silent while children are being killed and families are being starved.' Following publication of the initial letter in May, Choose Love staged a vigil outside Parliament in which a number of signatories read out the names of 15,613 children killed in Gaza. Ministers have already suspended licences for some arms sales to Israel but activists have demanded that the Government goes further, imposing a total ban including on parts for the F-35 jet. But the Government has said halting the export of spare F-35 parts is not possible as the UK is part of a global supply network and cannot control where those parts end up. Last week, the Government also sanctioned two Israeli ministers it accused of 'inciting violence against Palestinian people' and 'encouraging egregious abuses of human rights'. Ms Naughton added: 'The situation is changing by the second, but until the UK Government has halted all arms sales and licences to Israel, ensured that humanitarian aid can reach people starving inside Gaza and stopped the killing, they will not have done enough.' A Government spokesperson said: 'We strongly oppose the expansion of military operations in Gaza and call on the Israeli Government to cease its offensive and immediately allow for unfettered access to humanitarian aid.' 'The denial of essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population in Gaza is unacceptable and risks breaching international humanitarian law.' 'Last year, we suspended export licences to Israel for items used in military operations in Gaza and continue to refuse licences for military goods that could be used by Israel in the current conflict.' 'We urge all parties to urgently agree a ceasefire agreement and work towards a permanent and sustainable peace.'

RAY Winstone has reignited his ongoing feud with Hollywood legend Jack Nicholson - branding him "very rude" and "up his own a**e". The actor, 68, has had a 20-year feud with the Hollywood A-lister after the pair worked together on the Oscar-winning film The Departed back in 2006. 4 4 Ray appeared on Eamonn Holmes and Paul Coyte's podcast Things We Like with Eamonn & Paul, where discussed his feud with the star. Eamonn asked Ray if he liked Jack, to which the Sexy Beast actor replied: "No. We just didn't get on. I just found him... Listen, he's getting older, and maybe there are a lot of things going on with him. "I didn't like him, I thought he was so far up his own a**e it was unbelievable. And he was very rude. "He was very rude to me, he was rude to my wife, if he had been a younger man, I'd have definitely knocked him out." Despite not seeing eye-to-eye, Ray praised his talent in the industry. Ray later admitted that he had no idea why Jack did not warm to him and he admitted he disliked stars who were "arrogant". 'It doesn't worry me. It doesn't shock me. You clash a little bit. He's not the first person I've clashed with. He won't be the last," he said in an interview with The Independent. "I don't like arrogance. There's no need for it. This kind of feeling of being above everyone else. "We all end up in the same hole in the ground. "But some people have this smarmy little side mouth.... And there are different ways of dealing with that. "You either say your piece and tell them to shut the f**k up. Or you punch them in the mouth." Although they may have clashed, Ray insisted he would work with Jack again if the opportunity arose. He added: "Of course I want to work with him again! He's a fantastic actor." 4
