DuBois man attempted to disable troopers with screws in high-speed chase, PSP reports
DUBOIS, Pa. (WTAJ) — A police chase ended after a DuBois man allegedly tried to slow down troopers with nails and screws before crashing head on into a state police cruiser, injuring another trooper.
Stephen Delbert Pardee, 44, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, driving under the influence, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and a slew of summary traffic violations after allegedly leading police on a chase through Sandy Township Wednesday, March 26.
According to the criminal complaint, Pardee was spotted driving in front of a state trooper around 11:51 a.m. when he attempted to turn onto SR 322. Troopers noted they were familiar with Pardee due to previous interactions with him using his father's SUV. After activating the cruiser's lights, Pardee allegedly took nearly a minute to pull over.
A trooper got out of their cruiser to approach Pardee in the SUV when Pardee took off at a high rate of speed, charging documents read. The trooper got back to the cruiser and began chasing the SUV.

After a few minutes, Pardee turned onto a private dirt road before turning onto W. Liberty Road where he began throwing nails and screws from the SUV in an attempt to damage and disable the cruiser chasing him, the affidavit of probable cause shows.
Troopers said they were able to perform a PIT maneuver, which caused Pardee and the SUV to spin, striking another cruiser head-on and injuring the driving trooper. According to the complaint, Pardee continued speeding away while striking and damaging multiple gates before stopping and running on foot.
After a brief foot chase, troopers said Pardee was taken into custody. According to charging documents, troopers suspected Pardee to be under the influence, specifically of some sort of stimulant. Pardee, however, allegedly refused a blood draw when taken to Penn Highlands and then refused to cooperate when a warrant was retrieved to draw his blood.
Pardee was placed in Clearfield County Jail with bail set at $250,000.A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 4.
