Bomb hoax by passenger delays flight at city airport
Vadodara: A 51-year-old man with a learning disability triggered panic at Vadodara airport on Sunday evening after falsely claiming that he had a bomb in his bag. The incident caused a major security scare and delayed an Air India flight to Delhi by more than 90 minutes, officials said.
The man, who was travelling alone and scheduled to take a connecting flight to New York from Delhi, made the claim during a routine security check by CISF personnel. Initially, he stated he was carrying a bomb, but when questioned further, he began laughing and told officials he was "just joking."
However, airport authorities followed standard protocol and initiated a full-scale emergency response. Multiple security and intelligence agencies — including the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Vadodara city police, Special Operations Group (SOG), Police Control Board (PCB), and state and central intelligence bureaus — were deployed to handle the situation.
All passengers who had already boarded the Delhi-bound flight were deboarded, frisked, and their luggage thoroughly rechecked. The flight, originally scheduled to depart at 5:40pm, was cleared for take-off only around 7:00pm, after investigators confirmed there was no actual threat.
"While checking his luggage, we found medical documents that confirmed his mental condition," said DCP Panna Momaya.
"As per regulations, individuals with such medical conditions must be accompanied by a family member, relative, or guardian.

Meanwhile, between 6pm on Saturday and 6pm on Sunday, only five new DNA matches were found, said officials. "A large part of the identification process is over, and the last few samples may take time mainly due to the condition of the remains," said a health department official. Chandigarh: The special court of additional district and sessions judge, Neetika Verma, in Mohali has rejected the regular bail application of a Delhi-based travel agent accused of sending a youth to the US via the illegal 'dunki route'. The bail plea of Gagandeep Singh (36), a resident of Delhi's Tilak Nagar, was dismissed by the special court, with the NIA strongly opposing the bail on grounds of the severity and implications of the alleged crime. 17 iPhones, e-cigarettes seized from passenger at Coimbatore airport
Coimbatore: Seventeen iPhones and e-cigarettes, worth Rs 35 lakh in total, was seized from 35-year-old passenger by the Central Industrial Security Force ( CISF ) at the city airport on Saturday. Vicentraj, 35, a native of Trichy, arrived at the city airport from Abu Dhabi, where he was working in a private company. Though Vicentraj managed to walk out of the airport premises after clearing customs clearance, the city police deployed outside the airport grew suspicious about his behaviour. They nabbed Vicentraj and handed him over to the CISF. On checking, the CISF personnel found 17 iPhones and 130 boxes of e-cigarettes hidden in Vicentraj's luggage. Now, senior officials from the customs department have initiated an inquiry against the customs staff who were on duty when Vicentraj's luggage was screened.
