Denzel Aberdeen transferring to Kentucky for senior season, leaving national champion Florida
Denzel Aberdeen deciding to enter the transfer portal after Florida won the men's college basketball national championship was enough of a surprise.
But the 6-foot-5 guard doubled down on shock value by choosing to transfer to SEC rival Kentucky, according to several reports.
Going into his senior season, the guard figured to have a significant role for head coach Todd Golden's squad, taking over the lead scoring role left by Walter Clayton Jr., with Will Richard and Alijah Martin also finishing their eligibility.
Aberdeen averaged 7.7 points per game and shot 35% on 3-pointers in 39 games (five starts) as a junior for the Gators, for whom he played three seasons. The team's fifth-leading scorer, he notched consecutive 20-point performances in mid-February against Mississippi State and South Carolina.

During Florida's NCAA tournament run, Aberdeen had his best scoring performance with 12 points versus Maryland in the Sweet 16. He tallied seven points in the win over Houston in the national title game.
Coming to Gainesville, Aberdeen was rated a four-star prospect by Rivals in the 2022 recruiting class out of Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, Florida.
Aberdeen figures to have a featured role at Kentucky for head coach Mark Pope. The Wildcats finished 24-12 overall and sixth in the SEC at 10-8, before losing in the NCAA tournament third round to Tennessee. Seven seniors are gone from last season's team and leading scorer Otega Oweh (16.2 points per game) could leave after declaring for the NBA Draft.
But Pope has made a major plunge into the transfer portal to restock the roster. Joining Aberdeen in Lexington will be guard Jaland Lowe from Pittsburgh, former Tulane wing Kam Williams, Mouhamed Dioubate from Alabama and Jayden Quaintance, formerly of Arizona State.
Additionally, the Wildcats will add four-star recruit Jasper Johnson, whom Rivals ranked as the No. 2 point guard nationally in the 2025 class, along with two 6-11 forwards in Malachi Moreno and Andrija Jelavic from Croatia.

Clemson baseball lands promising transfer from SEC program For the second time this week, the Clemson Tigers have added a player from an SEC baseball roster via the transfer portal. Infielder Bryce Clavon, who transfers after one season with the Georgia Bulldogs, announced his commitment to Clemson in a post to social media Saturday. Clavon was a freshman for coach Wes Johnson's team in 2025, appearing in 27 games and making one start. He joins former Alabama Crimson Tide pitcher Ariston Veasey as SEC players to transfer to Clemson this week. A right-handed hitter who's listed as 6-feet, 187 pounds, Clavon committed to Georgia after graduating from Kell High School in Stockbridge (Ga.). Perfect Game ranked him the No. 4 overall shortstop in the nation coming out of high school. Clavon was 5-for-15 with a home run, a double and a triple last season. He was also 2-of-2 on stolen base attempts. Clavon played behind starting shortstop Kolby Branch and did not appear in the game when Clemson and Georgia met as top five opponents on April 22 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, a 3-0 Tigers shutout victory. Clavon is the Tigers' second commitment in the transfer portal Saturday. Earlier in the day, shortstop Tyler Lichtenberger committed to Clemson from Appalachian State. Lichtenberger was the Sun Belt conference Freshman of the Year in 2025, batting .341 with 13 doubles, three home runs and 44 RBIs. Clemson has added four players via the transfer portal since their season-ending loss to Kentucky in the Clemson Regional last Sunday. In addition to Clavon, Lichtenberger and Veasey, the Tigers also added right-hander Hayden Simmerson from Division II Catawba College in North Carolina. Auburn receives massive jump in ESPN FPI heading into 2025 season The Auburn Tigers have not lived up to expectations on the gridiron for most of the decade, but with back-to-back highly touted recruiting classes and an abundance of impact transfers on the way, Hugh Freeze's squad is expected to compete for at the top half of the SEC in 2025. Those high expectations were displayed in ESPN's opening Football Power Index rankings, in which Auburn was one of the biggest risers from last year's list. The Tigers checked in at the No. 14 spot in the FPI, sandwiched between a pair of fellow SEC teams in Ole Miss (No. 13) and South Carolina (No. 15). The ranking was a huge jump from where the Tigers finished 2024, as Hugh Freeze's team didn't even finish inside of the top 30 after losing the Iron Bowl and missing out on a bowl game. Auburn's 17 spot jump from No. 31 to No. 14 was the largest among teams currently ranked in the top 20. Hugh Freeze's squad is the only program ranked in the top 15 that did not finish last season ranked in the top 25. While the jump, and the company Auburn has enjoyed because of it, may seem like an ambitious projection, it does make sense when looking at the drastically improved nature of the Tigers roster. Next season's version of the Tigers will feature a new signal caller under center, a myriad of four and five-star recruits on the defensive side of the football, and a receiving duo of Cam Coleman and Eric Singleton Jr. that is being described as a top duo in the nation by many experts. The next step for Hugh Freeze's squad is to prove it on Saturdays in the fall. If they don't, the No. 14 team in FPI will fall right back to No. 31 before long. Miami bounces back to defeat Louisville 9-6 and force Game 3 of their super regional
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Renzon Gonzalez drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning, Daniel Cuvet added a three-run home run in the eighth and Miami defeated Louisville 9-6 on Saturday to even the Louisville Super Regional at a game apiece. In the seventh, Dorian Gonzalez Jr. doubled to lead off the inning and later scored the go-ahead run on a single by Renzo Gonzalez for a 6-5 Miami lead. Cuvet's one-out home run to left made it 9-5 in the eighth. Louisville scored a run in the ninth on a single by Lucas Moore and the Cardinals had runners on first and second with nobody out before Brian Walters retired the next three batters. Game 3 is set for Sunday with the winner advancing to the College World Series. Miami has 25 previous appearances in the CWS and Louisville has made it five times. Louisville took a 3-1 lead in the third inning when Zion Rose singled for one run and Eddie King Jr. belted a two-run home run. Jake Munroe, who hit two home runs in Louisville's 8-1 win on Friday, hit a solo shot in the fourth for a 4-1 lead. Miami took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Jake Kulikowski drove in a run with a single and Jake Ogden added a three-run home run. All four runs were unearned. King's solo home run in the seventh tied it at 5-all, then Gonzalez and Gonzalez came through for Miami in the bottom of the inning. Cuvet made it a four-run cushion in the eighth.
