As Real Madrid get ready to kick off their FIFA Club World Cup campaign against Al-Hilal, Spanish Formula 1 legend Fernando Alonso has spoken about his love for the club and his thoughts on their new era under manager Xabi Alonso.
A passionate Madridista, Alonso reflected on his long-standing connection with the club and shared his excitement for what lies ahead.

The two-time Formula 1 world champion recalled how special it was to be made an honorary member of Real Madrid. 'Real Madrid means everything to me,' he said.
'I've been a fan since I was a little kid. Some of my earliest memories are watching the team's matches with my dad at home.'
Alonso also spoke about how that bond only grew stronger over the years. 'Later on, I became a member, got to know the president, met some of the players, and attended matches. My love for the club just kept growing,' he added.
Being honoured as a club member remains one of the most emotional days of his life. 'That moment was magical. To walk out on the pitch, to be recognised by the club I've supported all my life — I'll never forget it.'

Reflecting on the team's 2024/25 season, Alonso admitted it has been a tough one due to injuries.
'It's been a complicated season, one that's been plagued by injuries . Five defenders have been out for extended periods, and that was the first of several critical moments for the team.
'Converting some players to more defensive roles was difficult, and one thing affected the other,' he explained.
Looking ahead, Alonso expressed admiration for Carlo Ancelotti but also excitement for the new chapter with Xabi Alonso.
'Ancelotti is the best manager we've ever had in terms of trophies won, and he will be missed, but I'm excited to see how we do now with Xabi Alonso,' he said.

'Xabi brings fresh ideas, and with new players like Trent Alexander-Arnold joining, it's a new cycle.'
Alonso compared the change at Real Madrid to what he's seen in Formula 1. 'Nothing lasts forever. Things change. Idols come and go, whether it's football or racing. That's just how life works,' he concluded.
