India-US bilateral trade agreement negotiations resume in Delhi: Piyush Goyal
Brescia [Italy]: The next round of negotiations for the India-United States Bilateral Trade Agreement commenced in Delhi, with US trade team officials in the capital engaging in crucial discussions aimed at strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
In an exclusive interview with ANI, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal confirmed that US trade team officials have reached India, with additional team members expected to arrive soon to participate in the negotiations.
The talks come against the backdrop of recent statements by Goyal in Paris on June 1, where he outlined that India and the United States are working toward providing preferential market access to their respective businesses. Teams from both nations are actively collaborating on the proposed bilateral trade agreement framework.
When asked about US President Donald Trump's announcement to increase tariffs on steel and aluminium to 50 percent, Goyal indicated that both countries remain committed to addressing trade issues through bilateral dialogue.
"Let us wait and watch... both the US and India share good relations and we will continue to work together to resolve all these issues bilaterally," Goyal said.
The current negotiations build upon commitments made in February, when US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced plans to negotiate the initial phase of a comprehensive, multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement. The timeline targets completion by fall 2025.
The proposed agreement is ambitious in scope, seeking to dramatically expand bilateral trade from the current $191 billion to $500 billion by 2030. This represents more than a doubling of trade volumes between the world's largest democracy and its most powerful economy.
The negotiations in Delhi mark a significant step forward in what both nations view as a strategic economic partnership, with potential implications for global trade patterns and supply chain configurations in key sectors including technology, pharmaceuticals, defence, and agriculture.

KYIV: Russia launched an intense missile and drone barrage at the Ukrainian capital in the early hours of Friday and three people were killed, Ukrainian officials said, as powerful explosions reverberated across the country. The attacks followed a warning from Russian President Vladimir Putin, conveyed via US President Donald Trump, that the Kremlin would hit back after Ukrainian drones destroyed several strategic bomber aircraft in attacks deep inside Russia. The air force said Russia had used 407 drones, one of the largest numbers recorded in a single attack. Forty-five cruise and ballistic missiles were also fired, it said. Kyiv's metro transport system was disrupted by a Russian strike that hit and damaged tracks between stations, Kyiv's military administration said. The state rail company said it was also diverting some trains due to rail damage outside the city. Reuters witnesses reported a series of booming explosions powerful enough to rattle windows far from the impact sites. Some Kyiv residents sought shelter in metro stations, or in underground car parks. In the capital's Solomianskyi district, a Russian drone slammed into the side of an apartment building, leaving a gaping hole and burn marks, a Reuters photographer at the scene said. Falling concrete blocks from the building crushed cars parked below. Two police investigators were examining what appeared to be the drone's engine. Earlier in the night, Reuters reporters heard the sound of Russian kamikaze drones buzzing in the sky, accompanied by the sounds of outgoing fire from Ukrainian anti-aircraft fire. Elon Musk's Starlink gets license to offer satellite internet services in India
New Delhi: Elon Musk-owned satellite internet company Starlink has been given license by the government to launch GMPCS (Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite) services, VSAT Services and ISP Category-A under unified license. Starlink is the third company to receive the nod for GMPCS sevices from the Department of Telecom, after OneWeb and Reliance Jio. Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) license authorizes the use of satellite technology for global mobile communication, providing connectivity seamlessly in the entire area of operation, particularly in remote and underserved areas. According to the Department of Telecommunications, GMPCS enables mobile communication services via satellite for users, especially in those regions where terrestrial networks' connectivity is limited. License holders deploy satellite terminals and ensure secure, continuous service with compliance with global standards. According to DoT, the license mandates adherence to privacy, lawful interception, and satellite transmission standards. Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia told reporters on Thursday that once licenses are given, the spectrum will be allocated to them. Scindia said that internet penetration can only be increased through satellite communication services, especially in remote areas where laying wires and installing towers would be difficult. Recently, Airtel and Jio have also partnered with Starlink to bring the latter's high-speed satellite internet services to their customers in India. Starlink will use Airtel and Jio's strong dealership network to sell and promote its services. In mid-April, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal met a delegation from Starlink.
