In announcing his restrictions last week, Trump said the new measure was spurred by a recent "terrorist attack" on Jews in Colorado.
The group had been protesting in solidarity with hostages held in Gaza when they were assaulted by a man the White House said had overstayed his visa.
Live Events
That attack, Trump said, "underscored the extreme dangers posed to our country by the entry of foreign nationals who are not properly vetted" or who overstay their visas.
The president calls the move as protecting the country from "foreign terrorists."
The entry of people from seven other countries, including Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela has been partially restricted.
Trump said the countries that face the ban were harbouring a "large-scale presence of terrorists," fail to cooperate on visa security, have an inability to verify travelers' identities, and have an inadequate record-keeping of criminal histories. He added that citizens of these countries also have a high rate of visa overstays in the US.
The travel ban is a part of the president's attempts to restrict immigration into the US.
However, the ban will not apply to athletes competing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the United States is co-hosting with Canada and Mexico, or in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. It will not apply to diplomats from the targeted countries either.

China stocks end at nearly 3-week high as Sino-US trade truce sparks optimism
SHANGHAI, - China stocks climbed on Wednesday, touching their highest levels in nearly three weeks, lifted by optimism over progress in U.S.-China trade talks, although investors awaited further details on the framework agreed upon by the two countries. China's blue-chip CSI300 Index rose as much as 1.2% to its highest since May 23. Hong Kong's benchmark Hang Seng index climbed up to 1%, touching its strongest level since March 20. U.S. and Chinese officials said on Tuesday they had agreed on a framework to put their trade truce back on track and remove China's export restrictions on rare earths while offering little sign of a durable resolution to longstanding trade differences. "This is positive news to the market. At least now there's a bottom line that neither side is willing to cross," said Mark Dong, co-founder of Minority Asset Management. "Going forward, both sides will move toward reducing the trade imbalance." The two-day meeting in London followed a leader-to-leader phone call between U.S. President Donald Trump and China's Xi Jinping last week after tensions between the countries flared, with each accusing the other of violating the Geneva deal. Zeng Wenkai, the chief investment officer at Shengqi Asset Management, said markets had likely expected the outcome. "People have realised that kneeling gets you nowhere — in fact, it only invites more bullying," Zeng said, adding that countries are now adopting a tougher stance in negotiations with the U.S. The CSI Rare Earth Index gained more than 3%, while China's semiconductor index fell 0.1%. "The details matter, especially around the degree of rare earths bound for the U.S., and the subsequent freedom for U.S.-produced chips to head East," said Chris Weston, head of research at Pepperstone. "But for now as long as the headlines of talks between the two parties remain constructive, risk assets should remain supported." By market close, the CSI 300 Index rose nearly 1%, the Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.5% and the Hang Seng Index added 0.8%. Tech majors traded in Hong Kong advanced 1.1%. Chinese stocks have struggled for direction since April 2, when Trump announced his sweeping reciprocal tariffs. The CSI300 Index has barely budged from the April 2 level, and the Hang Seng Index gained around 5% during the period, both lagging the recovery among major global markets. China's auto stocks climbed nearly 2% after several major automakers, including BYD, Chery and Geely, pledged to pay suppliers within 60 days. On Tuesday, Minhas conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Lakhanpur corridor to assess and finalise preparations for the Amarnath yatra. Live Events Over 3.50 lakh pilgrims so far have registered themselves for the pilgrimage and thousands more from across the country are expected to reach Lakhanpur on a daily basis. The deputy commissioner inspected the reception points, lodgement centres, registration kiosks and sanitation facilities including toilet complexes and asked the stakeholder departments to ensure timely setting up of waterproof pandals, medical and help desks, control rooms, and cold drinking water stations. He also stressed making toilet complexes and additional facilities fully functional prior to the arrival of the first batch of yatris. Meanwhile, a high-level security meeting was held in the Udhampur district to review preparations and strategize for the smooth conduct of the yatra. The meeting, chaired by Senior Superintendent of Police, Udhampur Amod Ashok Nagpure , held a detailed discussion focused on security, intelligence sharing, traffic control, medical aid, emergency services, and logistics, a police spokesperson said. The SSP emphasised strong inter-agency coordination, effective security planning, and smooth communication to handle any challenges and to ensure the safety of Pilgrims. Special attention was given to anti-narcotics efforts, the spokesperson said, adding all the officers were directed to stay alert and launch proactive operations against narco networks. The SSP also advised the officers to maintain a high level of vigilance and preparedness throughout the Yatra and conduct regular review meetings, briefing sessions, and mock drills to ensure seamless execution of all plans and protocols.
