Arab Media Summit Opens with Calls to Defend Truth and Reshape Regional Discourse
The Arab Media Summit 2025 opened in Dubai with a strong message: Arab media must rise to meet the ethical and technological challenges of a rapidly evolving world.
Attended by around 8,000 media professionals, policymakers, and thought leaders, the event reaffirmed its role as the region's premier platform for shaping media strategy and dialogue.
Opening the summit, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar urged Arab media to confront harmful digital content, misleading portrayals of Islam, and the erosion of cultural values. He stressed the need for a unified Arab media strategy that defends truth, supports identity, and protects youth from the risks of unregulated technological change. He also highlighted efforts to introduce a global code of ethics for artificial intelligence.
The Prime Minister of Lebanon called for responsible journalism that resists bias and misinformation, warning that media today no longer just reflects reality but actively shapes it. He emphasised media's vital role in rebuilding public trust, especially in societies facing political and economic instability.
On the summit's second day, Dubai Media Council leadership spotlighted the growing influence of artificial intelligence in journalism. Amid rising concerns over algorithm-driven narratives and fabricated content, speakers called for stronger safeguards, balanced reporting, and renewed trust between the public and the press.
Over three days, the summit continues to serve as a critical venue for advancing cooperation among Arab media institutions, with a shared goal of ensuring the region's stories are told with integrity, accuracy, and purpose.

'Such a state would undoubtedly become a terrorist state in the heart of the land of Israel,' the official claimed. 'Israel will not cooperate with efforts that threaten its security.' Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, who was set to lead the delegation, would have been the highest-ranking Saudi official to visit the occupied West Bank in nearly 60 years. Saudi top diplomat to make rare trip to occupied West Bank
Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan will visit the occupied West Bank this weekend, making him the highest ranking Saudi official to visit in almost 60 years, the Palestinian Authority (PA) revealed on Friday. Bin Farhan will lead a ministerial delegation comprised of his counterparts in Jordan, Egypt, and other Arab nations, the Palestinian ambassador to Saudi Arabia told local media, adding that the trip is intended to convey the centrality of the Palestinian cause to Arabs and Muslims. The move appears similar to the trip bin Farhan organised to Washington in the early months of Israel's war on Gaza, in a bid to showcase a united Arab front in support of a ceasefire. It also appears to be an attempt at lending credibility to the PA as an alternative to Hamas in Gaza, despite the PA's plummeting popularity among Palestinians. The trip is rare and unusual, given that the last time a Saudi official visited Ramallah, he had been appointed a non-resident ambassador to Palestine.
