Body found in search for missing Cole Cooper as family informed by police

The family of missing teenager Cole Cooper has been informed a body was found in a wooded area earlier today. The 19-year-old was reported missing last month on May 9 and was last spotted in the Longcraft area near Falkirk.
Formal identification has yet to take place after a man's body was discovered in a wooded area near Kilsyth Road in Banknock at around 4.15pm on Friday, June 6.
The grim discovery was made just a 15 minutes walk away from the last confirmed sighting of the teenager. Police Scotland said: "Around 4.15pm on Friday, 6 June, 2025, the body of a man was discovered in a wooded area near Kilsyth Road in Banknock.
"Formal identification has yet to take place however the family of missing man Cole Cooper, 19, has been informed. Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
We told yesterday how the tragic teen's family said they had lived through a five weeks of "hell" and were planning to launch a fresh search for him.
He went missing after visiting a pub in the Denny area before heading to a friend's party at around 3am last month. This Sunday would have marked five "long and painful" weeks since loved ones last heard from Cole.
He last made contact on May, 4 and his cousin Aimee Tennie was hoping to gather the largest search for Cole yet and she launched an emotional plea for volunteers and support.
On a dedicated Facebook page set up to help the search for Cole, Aimee said: "Every second, every minute, and every hour is becoming more painful. Sunday June 8 marks five weeks.

" Five long, painful weeks. Just like that May 2025 is over and we begin a new month, a new month where Cole is still missing. We can't even begin to imagine this lasting any longer than it already has. We were living as normal only a month ago before this hell.
"So, we are asking all of you, once again to come together in solidarity, in hope, that this week, is our last week of searching please think, if this was your child, what lengths you would go to, to bring them home we can't do this alone. We need all of you.
"Please join our family once again to look for our Cole We are hoping this is our largest gathering yet, so please share, speak to friends, to family, to colleagues, bring who you can. We thank you all again for your amazing support."
The family were also planning to give out ribbons containing a message pleading with Cole to return home, that could be tied across several search locations.
Aimee added: "As well as searching for Cole, the family are inviting loved ones and volunteers to tie a ribbon for him with a message of "hope encouragement, or love to come home to us."
Cole was captured on alarming ring doorbell footage on the morning of Sunday, May 4 around 6am in the Longcroft area. He was filmed trying to access his father's house unsuccessfully.
A chilling video later later emerged of the teen in the Cumbernauld Road of the town area "running" and looking "spooked". Detectives investigating his disappearance say he was seen several days later on Wednesday, May 7.
He had been at the intersection with Cumbernauld Road, in the Longcroft area. Police said he asked a schoolfriend for a lift around 8.45pm that evening.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court staff confiscate over 200 'bladed weapons' in past year

More info More than 200 bladed weapons were confiscated from people entering Edinburgh Sheriff Court in the past year. Figures obtained through a Freedom of Information request show guns, bullets and 2,000 blades are among the deadly haul of weapons brought into Scottish courts in the last year. Security staff seized 1,258 bladed items and 815 knives at courthouse checkpoints between April 2024 and March this year. Edinburgh's Sheriff Court was the second worst affected building in Scotland, with more than 200 bladed weapons and 119 knives found by security staff at checkpoints between April 2024 and March this year. The data, obtained by our sister title the Daily Record, did not reveal which types of knives were seized or whether the blades were over three inch legal limit for carrying in public. Glasgow Sheriff Court takes the unwanted place at the top of the weapons list with 278 blades seized and 123 knives. The worst month was October 2024 where a total of 40 bladed articles and 16 knives were seized. The Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service (SCTS) said they take the safety of all court users "very seriously" and security crews alert police when attempts to smuggle in weapons are made. However knife crime charity, the Ben Kinsella Trust, branded the grim statistics as "deeply alarming". Chief executive Patrick Green said: "The large number of bladed articles seized at the entrance of court buildings is deeply alarming. "What's especially concerning is that the prospect of a search isn't deterring individuals, which points to a worrying normalisation of knife carrying." Blades have also made their way into Scotland's two High Courts where the country's most serious crimes are tried. The data shows that 174 bladed articles were taken from individuals at Glasgow High Court, whilst 51 knives were confiscated. In the capital, Edinburgh High Court has a much reduced rate of sharp weapons entering the building. Only six bladed articles were confiscated whilst 22 knives were seized.. Some data from the country's smaller courts were not available. A spokesperson for Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service said: "SCTS takes the safety of all court users very seriously. We constantly review security issues and share those outcomes with our justice partners, including Police Scotland, in order to take all reasonable precautions against weapons being introduced into court buildings. "Any item which is considered to be a potential risk to public safety will be confiscated on entering a court building and the discovery of weapons or potential weapons is immediately reported to the police." A Scottish Violence Reduction Unit spokesperson said: "There is no place for weapon-carrying in Scotland and we should not accept it. "We must continue to work together across all services to tackle the root causes of weapon-carrying to address the problem."

Officers reportedly arrested a man and discovered his alleged plan while he was in custody being questioned on separate offences. Military personnel at a barracks near Windsor Castle in Windsor, Berkshire were reportedly warned not to leave the grounds in uniform following the arrest. As reported by the Mirror, the alert remained in place for two days at Victoria Barracks, which is the home to the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards. A source told The Sun: 'The suspect is feared to have been plotting an attack. Police informed bosses at the barracks and measures were taken immediately despite him already being in custody. It was a huge security scare. But it was in the interests of everyone's safety.' The outlet reports that Thames Valley Police first arrested the man in Slough, Berkshire, last week on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and arson at the nearby Salt Hill Activity Centre. While he was in custody on Sunday June 1, however, police re-arrested him on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts. It's understood the investigation is now being led by Counter Terrorism Policing South East. The suspect is believed to be a 'lone actor' and no other arrests have been made and the alleged incident has understandably caused some concern among local residents. Police have have stepped up patrols to reassure the public but officers have not yet named, or released any further details about, the 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of the suspected terror attack. Windsor Barracks, specifically Victoria Barracks and Combermere Barracks, have a rich history intertwined with military service and the royal family.
