WhatsApp Web Will Soon Let You Manage Photos And Files With This Feature: Know More
Last Updated:
WhatsApp web client will soon let you take video calls like Zoom and Google Meet but another big update is coming your way as well.
WhatsApp is making the web platform more functional and feature-rich in the last few months. The recent WhatsApp beta versions have talked about the ability to make calls from the web app itself, and soon, the messaging app could make it easy to manage all the photos and links that you share with other people on the platform.
The new tool has been spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.13.4 version and the details about this feature has been shared by WaBetaInfo in a post this week.
The tipster has shared a screenshot of how the interface for the media hub on WhatsApp web will look and you can see it over here.
WhatsApp web will basically get a new tab for the media hub on the side panel below the communities section, and when you click on it the interface will open with the media, docs and links section available on the screen.
It seems WhatsApp will also have a search bar at the top of the hub so that you can manually search for a particular photo, video or website link that you may have shared with one of your contacts on the messaging app.
That's not all, the tipster claims the media hub will give details about the contact who shared the documents with you and the date it was sent. And yes, in case you want to clear up the media files or documents from the chat app, the multi-select option will give you the option to delete them or send them at the same time rather than selecting them one by one.
WhatsApp web client has a lot of potential, not just because of how people use it but since most people at work might not work on peeking at their phone to see messages. The mirroring feature has enabled you to see the WhatsApp profile on the web, and soon, it will have support for video calls, just like Google Meet or Zoom on the web app itself.
The release for the new media hub is still in development so it will probably take a few months before we see it available on the public beta version. Meanwhile, WhatsApp has finally got the iPad app available on the App Store from this week. It has taken the platform over 15 years to bring a dedicated app for the device but now people can use the messaging app with all its features and privacy intact.

Google makes case for keeping Chrome browser
Google on Friday urged a US judge to reject the notion of making it spin off its Chrome browser to weaken its dominance in online search. Rival attorneys made their final arguments before US District Court Judge Amit Mehta , who is considering imposing "remedies" after a landmark decision last year that Google maintained an illegal monopoly in search. US government attorneys have called on Mehta to order Google to divest itself of Chrome browser, contending that artificial intelligence is poised to ramp up the tech giant's dominance as the go-to window into the internet. They also want Google barred from agreements with partners such as Apple and Samsung to distribute its search tools, which was the focus of the suit against the Silicon Valley internet giant. Three weeks of testimony ended early in May, with Friday devoted to rival sides parsing points of law and making their arguments before Mehta in a courtroom in Washington. Live Events John Schmidtlein, an attorney for Google, told Mehta that there was no evidence presented showing people would have opted for a different search engine without the exclusivity deals in place. Discover the stories of your interest Blockchain 5 Stories Cyber-safety 7 Stories Fintech 9 Stories E-comm 9 Stories ML 8 Stories Edtech 6 Stories Schmidtlein noted that Verizon installed Chrome on smartphones even though the US telecom titan owned Yahoo! search engine and was not bound by a contract with Google. Of the 100 or so witnesses heard at trial, not one said "if I had more flexibility, I would have installed Bing" search engine from Microsoft, the Google attorney told the judge. 'More flexibility' Department of Justice (DoJ) attorney David Dahlquist countered that Apple, which was paid billions of dollars to make Chrome the default browser on iPhones, "repeatedly asked for more flexibility" but was denied by Google. Google contends that the United States has gone way beyond the scope of the suit by recommending a spinoff of Chrome, and holding open the option to force a sale of its Android mobile operating system. "Forcing the sale of Chrome or banning default agreements wouldn't foster competition," said Cato Institute senior fellow in technology policy Jennifer Huddleston. "It would hobble innovation, hurt smaller players, and leave users with worse products." Google attorney Schmidtlein noted that more than 80 percent of Chrome users are outside the United States, meaning divestiture would have global ramifications. "Any divested Chrome would be a shadow of the current Chrome," he contended. "And once we are in that world, I don't see how you can say anybody is better off." The potential of Chrome being weakened or spun off comes as rivals such as Microsoft, ChatGPT and Perplexity put generative artificial intelligence (AI) to work fetching information from the internet in response to user queries. The online search antitrust suit was filed against Google some five years ago, before ChatGPT made its debut, triggering AI fervour. Google is among the tech companies investing heavily to be a leader in AI, and is weaving the technology into search and other online offerings. Kneecap Google? Testimony at trial included Apple vice president of services Eddy Cue revealing that Google's search traffic on Apple devices declined in April for the first time in over two decades. Cue testified that Google was losing ground to AI alternatives like ChatGPT and Perplexity. Mehta pressed rival attorneys regarding the potential for Google to share data as proposed by the DoJ in its recommended remedies. "We're not looking to kneecap Google," DoJ attorney Adam Severt told the judge. "But, we are looking to make sure someone can compete with Google." Schmidtlein contended that data Google is being asked to share contains more than just information about people's online searches, saying it would be tantamount to handing over the fruit of investments made over the course of decades. "There are countless algorithms that Google engineers have invented that have nothing to do with click and query data," Schmidtlein said. "Their remedy says we want to be on par with all of your ingenuity, and, respectfully your honour, that is not proportional to the conduct of this case."

Raichur agri radio goes bilingual to reach global audience
Raichur: The Agriculture FM station at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur, will soon be accessible worldwide in two languages: Kannada and English. Launched in 2023 with a frequency of 89.6 MHz under the title 'Krishi Samudaya Banuli Kendra', the station has so far only broadcast programmes in Kannada, reaching dozens of villages within 20 km radius. Now, listeners can access agriculture-related programmes by downloading the Android app, KKCRS Raichur. This innovative broadcasting model was introduced on May 27 without any major announcement. "We are now planning to broaden our outreach by offering information in English shortly. This initiative serves two purposes. Our farmers will be able to engage with experts from around the world, supported by our moderators. Additionally, those interested in leveraging agricultural technologies and innovations will find it beneficial, as agriculture knows no boundaries," states vice-chancellor Dr M Hanumanthappa. To turn this long-awaited vision into reality, UAS Raichur gathered the necessary infrastructure, including a well-equipped recording studio, cutting-edge technology, and a technical room. The directorate of agricultural extension is now prepared to broadcast programmes on FM radio, utilising technology that rivals that of any conventional radio station. Given that a majority of mobile users possess Android devices, it is straightforward to install the app and tune into 'Kalyana Krishi Samudra Banuli Kendra,' explained VC Dr Hanumanthappa. He mentioned that the station will soon be the only agricultural radio station in the state to offer farmer-related programmes in multiple languages. At present, various programmes are broadcast live daily from 6am to 9am and from 6pm to 9pm. The KKCRS Raichur Android app has now come to the aid of thousands of farmers through web streaming. Additionally, programmes can be accessed by scanning the QR code created by the extension directorate of the University of Agricultural Sciences using an Android mobile device. Programmes covering topics such as research scientists, agricultural extension units, horticulture, animal husbandry, university information, various projects, documentaries, interviews with agricultural scientists and progressive farmers, the introduction of agricultural technologies, field experiences, weather reports, as well as entertainment, satirical dialogues, debates, and the promotion of rural agricultural literature and arts will now reach hundreds of thousands of farmer friends globally through the Kalyana Krishi Samudra Banuli Kendra. The university is organising a formal launch for the event, and the schedule will be announced once all necessary preparations are finalised.
