Pink Ladies' tractor run founders honoured by King
A couple who have raised more than £1.2m for a cancer charity said it was a "huge honour" to be recognised by the King.Annie Chapman, 83, and her husband John, 74, have been appointed MBE in the King's Birthday Honours list for their services to fundraising.The pair, who live near Pulham Market, Norfolk, set up the Pink Ladies' Tractor Road Run more than two decades ago."It's a huge honour to have, but it's one we like to share... it's teamwork," said Mrs Chapman.
"We couldn't do it without a team of all sorts of people."It was just going to be a one-off bit of fun."Each year a group of women take tractors festooned with pink decorations and travel in convoy around a 20-mile (32km) route of south Norfolk and north Suffolk.Money is raised for Cancer Research UK, and used to fund work in breast cancer developments.The fundraiser was launched when the couple, who were members of tractor clubs and fans of vintage models, decided to set themselves a challenge over a bottle of wine when Mrs Chapman retired.Mr Chapman said he was "surprised" and "delighted" to at the honour but also appreciated, like his wife, that it was a team effort."On reflection, I thought 'What a wonderful recognition of the event,'" he said."[It is] not a personal thing so much as a recognition of the event and all the people who help us and make it work."
The next event will be held on 6 July when 191 tractors will tour the countryside, setting off from Thorpe Abbotts airfield, near Diss.The procession of pink tractors attracts scores of spectators along the route, and the support in the couple's closest town of Harleston is something they find particularly heart-warming."It's quite an emotional trip - you can't get through there without choking up," said Mrs Chapman. "People are just so supportive."The couple are among 19 people in the county to be recognised in the King's Birthday Honours.Other Norfolk recipients include Dr Christine Counsell, of Attleborough, who has been appointed OBE for services to education; David Case, of Diss Heritage Triangle Project, appointed MBE for his services to the community, as has Sheelagh Redpath, of Great Yarmouth, for her services to netball.The Birthday Honours are awarded by the King following recommendations by the prime minister, senior government ministers and members of the public.

'Excited at the thought of finally becoming a mum, I made a beeline for the baby section and picked up this little outfit. I held it up to Matt and said, "Shall we get it?". He laughed and reluctantly agreed. And into the trolley it went. 'Back then, I had no idea how long or how hard the journey ahead would be. Months passed. Then years. Negative test after negative test. So many tears. So much heartache.' Laura admitted she found it difficult seeing her friends and family get pregnant while it wasn't happening for her and Matt - and said she came close to giving away the baby outfit on many occasions. She continued: 'One of the hardest things was watching all our friends and family get pregnant, while we kept waiting with empty arms, wondering "When is it going to be our turn?". 'Over the years, there were times we were caught short needing a baby gift, and I was tempted to give this little outfit away (I didn't really know what else to do with it) until a friend gently asked how I'd feel seeing someone's else's baby in it, and suggested I hang onto it. 'And so I did. Three house moves and nearly a decade later, this tiny outfit has quietly stayed with us, tucked in a bottom drawer, or in the corner of a room that never got touched. 'Unless on very rare occasions I'd find it while spring cleaning and would hold it close to my chest, praying one day our baby might wear it. Well, earlier this year, as many of you know, our prayers were finally answered.' One woman shared how she transformed her unattractive front door step to look stylish and chic without too much effort. 4 4 Rosies, who posts under @rosielaurenhome, showed how she did the DIY job herself and didn't need to hire a professional to help. She shared in a video which has over 3,000 likes: 'I'm going to show you how easy it is to turn this ugly concrete step into this. 'So, I'm using mosaic tiles and this Turbo Set tile adhesive. Let's go.' She showed how she had picked up some black and white checked tiles for the job - and you can find a bargain replica on Temu for just £12 for 10 sheets. Rosie first laid out the tiles to work out exactly how many she would need, and loved how easy they were to cut. She then mixed up her adhesive and advised you to work quickly as it 'sets in around 15 minutes.' She added: 'I'm putting it directly onto the concrete, and then I'm leveling it out at the end. 'Once nice and level, I'm adding one mosaic tile at a time and gently tapping them evenly into the adhesive.' She then repeated the process until her entire step was covered with the stylish tiles. Although it didn't take long for everything to set, she said she waited until the next day to grout it. According to an attractive front of your house - known as 'curb appeal' - can boost your home's value by between five and 10 per cent. It seems many people were impressed with Rosie's hard work, with one saying: 'Such a great idea! currently renovating our house so saving this.' Another added: 'That's actually a brilliant idea, definitely gonna do this.'And a third wrote: 'love this am gonna copy.'
