Gangland enforcers dodge jail after petrol bombing luxury car over £100k drug debt

Daily Record01-05-2025

Lloyd McKay and Calvin Gilmour targeted the parents of a man who owed money.
A pair of underworld enforcers who petrol bombed a couple's luxury car outside their home have dodged being sent to prison. Gangland hoods Lloyd McKay and Calvin Gilmour carried out the firebomb attack as a warning over their son's £100,000 drug debt.
The bungling duo were caught after one was left with scorch marks on his hands and burnt hair and their escapade was captured on CCTV cameras.

A court heard it was the first of two terrifying attacks on the debt-owing addict son's Tayside-based parents by gangland figures from Glasgow.

Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown ordered McKay to carry out 270 hours unpaid work after hearing he would have to do "light duties" because of a spinal injury.
She told Gilmour to carry out 225 hours unpaid work and ordered both accused to stay away indefinitely from the couple they targeted. McKay, 24, and Gilmour, 21, were sent to the Dundee area to issue a blunt threat to the couple to cover their son's debts.
At Forfar Sheriff Court, both admitted wilfully setting fire to the Mercedes parked outside the family home on October 27, 2022, and damaging it so badly it was written-off.
Fiscal depute Sarah Wilkinson told the court: "The father received phone calls saying he now owed a drug debt his son had racked up for £100,000." The mystery caller warned: "You better sort it out with your boy or it's going to get taken out on youse."

"The father was at home when he heard his wife's car alarm sounding and he looked outside to see the car was ablaze and contacted police and the fire brigade.

"He tried to put it out with a garden house, but it had not much effect. There was a strong smell of petrol coming from the vehicle. They were immediately suspicious that it related to the earlier phone calls."
Ms Wilkinson said the father got another call to ask if his car was on fire, and the limited insurance payout meant the couple were left £21,000 out of pocket.

Detectives found footage showing McKay's vehicle entering a petrol station nearby and mobile phone records confirmed he had driven from Glasgow to the house.
The duo were seen to buy water bottles at the garage and an investigation confirmed some had been filled with petrol and hurled into the car after the window had been smashed with a brick.
One of the duo had burn marks to his hands and to his head and had been found to have Googled 'how to fix burnt hair?' They owned the mobile number which contacted the victim.

Two other gangland hoods have already been jailed for targeting the same family in a bid to scare them into clearing off their son's huge drug debt.
Lewis Goldfarb, 41, was jailed for two years and Robert Notman, 47, was sent to prison for 14 months for targeting the family in December 2022.

Notman made two 160-mile round trips to slash tyres and smash windows to terrify the parents at their quiet residential villa. He and fellow henchman Lewis Goldfarb had been sent to Dundee by their mystery underworld boss in Glasgow to "persuade" them to pay.
Notman and Goldfarb admitted trying to extort money from the mother on December 5, 2022, by informing her that her son owed money to people in Glasgow. Goldfarb admitted slashing car tyres in Invergowrie the same day.

Both admitted returning six days later, when Goldfarb brought a knife and slashed the tyres of a Transit van after demanding entry to a rental property owned by another relative.
He admitted smashing the family's CCTV camera to hide evidence of their visit, while Notman admitted banging the door, demanding entry and smashing a window.

Fiscal depute Lora Apostolova previously told the court: " Their CCTV captured the full incident with audio and visual. She became aware of a camera activation.
"She went outside and saw two males behind the security gate, next to a Transit van. Both had prominent Glasgow accents. She was aware this was an incident relating to issues to do with her son's drug debts."
When the duo returned to the family home the following week, the mother was alone and was left terrified as they banged the door and smashed a window.
The police managed to trace the duo within the hour and Goldfarb was found to be carrying a lock-knife. The court was told both men had a history of violence.

Elon Musk deletes social post making wild allegation about Donald Trump

The bromance between the US President and the erratic tech billionaire spectacularly imploded this week - with both sides making wild and unsubstantiated claims about each other on social media Elon Musk has deleted a post from his social media which made a wild and unsubstantiated allegation about Donald Trump. The post to his account on X, formerly Twitter, which Musk owns, claimed Trump's name was included in FBI files about dead paedophile Jefrey Epstein - something Trump has since denied on his own social media platform, Truth Social. ‌ Musk had written: "Time to drop the really big bomb: Donald Trump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!" ‌ In a follow-up post, Musk said: "Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out." Earlier today, both posts were removed from the platform. Responding to the allegation, Mr Trump reposted a message from lawyer David Schoen, who wrote: "I was hired to lead Jeffrey Epstein's defence as his criminal lawyer 9 days before he died. He sought my advice for months before that. "I can say authoritatively, unequivocally, and definitively that he had no information to hurt President Trump. I specifically asked him!" While Musk did delete that allegation, there's no indication of a cooling of the furious row between the two MAGA figureheads. Musk's X account still contains posts from recent days attacking Trump's budget bill as an "abomination", suggesting Trump's tariffs would drive the United States into recession later this year, and calling for President Trump to be impeached and replaced with Vice President JD Vance. ‌ It's been reported the row bubbled over after Trump told Musk he was withdrawing the nomination of Jared Isaacson - a Musk ally - to run NASA. According to the New York Times, Trump had learned Isaacson had donated to some Democrats and didn't think he could be counted on to be loyal to him. ‌ In another deleted post, Musk said he would offer Trump a "full throated apology" only if there was a "full dump of the Epstein files." Donald Trump repeatedly promised to release the full files related to Epstein when he took office - but has failed to do so. But both FBI director Kash Patel and his deputy Dan Bongino have both publicly stated they no longer believe in many of the conspiracy theories surrounding Epstein and his death - and which have taken hold in much of Trump's MAGA base in the years since the disgraced financier's suicide. A group of influencers were given what was claimed to be "the Epstein Files" in a White House arranged media stunt - only to later complain bitterly that the binders they'd been given contained information that was already in the public domain.

Ban for Llandrindod man who only passed test in January

A POWYS man who only passed his driving test in January has had his licence taken off him, after he was convicted of drink driving. Isaac Chawasarira, 39, was found 'rolling back towards the road' by police who had been contacted following concerns regarding his manner of driving in Llandrindod Wells in the early hours of May 3. He was arrested after failing a roadside breath test, with Chawasarira found to be more than double the drink drive limit. Llandrindod Wells Magistrates' Court heard on Tuesday, June 3, that Chawasarira, a Zimbabwe national who came to the UK in 2012 as an asylum seeker, had only passed his driving test four months previously. He pleaded guilty to one charge of drink driving at this week's hearing. Prosecutor James Sprunks said police received a call at around 4am regarding the manner of Chawasarira's driving in the town centre. 'His grey Mercedes was spotted by police,' said Mr Sprunks. 'Its headlights were on and it was parked on the side of Spa Road. He was seen to slowly be reversing up a lane. 'PC Davies approached him and he started rolling back towards the road, near the Log Cabin. He shouted at the driver to brake. He didn't appear to have full control. 'He got out and the officer smelt intoxicants. He was slurring his words and struggling to find the right ones. 'He failed a roadside breath test and made repeated comments about being drunk.' Mr Sprunks said the defendant has no previous convictions. A reading provided by Chawasarira showed 81 micrograms of alcohol in his breath – the legal limit is 35 micrograms. Representing Chawasarira, of High Street, Llandrindod, Simon Collingham, said: 'The first thing he'd like to say is how utterly ashamed he is of his behaviour. He is thoroughly ashamed. 'The only saving grace is that no-one was injured. 'He had parked his car earlier in the day, in a restricted area. He didn't want to move car in the morning, as he was getting up early for work, so he decided to move it. It was an extremely poor error in judgement. 'He is a Zimbabwe national, who came to the UK in 2012 as an asylum seeker, where he was repatriated with other family members. 'He has worked various jobs and now works for National Rail, doing track maintenance. He is highly regarded by those who work with him. 'This has had a devastating impact on him. He only passed test in January. He won't lose his job as he is not allowed to drive for National Rail currently, as he's a new and inexperienced driver. 'This is a gentleman the court will probably never see again.' Magistrates disqualified Chawasarira from driving for 20 months; he can reduce this ban by completing a drink driving rehabilitation course. He was fined £600 and must also pay a £240 surcharge and £85 costs.
