Wild behind-the-scene's detail from Dwayne Johnson's Saturday Night Live appearance

News.com.au30-04-2025

Where Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson goes, the 'chicken guy' follows.
Saturday Night Live star Mikey Day exclusively told The Post that the wrestler-turned-movie-star, 52, had plenty of protein on hand when he hosted the sketch comedy series.
'This is more amusing than surprising. I figured Dwayne Johnson would have an intense diet and stuff to maintain his ridiculously shredded physique,' Day, 45, said while promoting his new campaign with Dollar Car Rental.
'But when he hosted, I saw Dwayne's 'chicken guy,'' the comedian recalled. 'Which, distilled down to a basic description, is a dude who follows Dwayne around with this industrial case of chicken and occasionally approaches Dwayne and says. 'Hey Dwayne, sorry to interrupt but it's time to eat chicken.''
Johnson, a member of the show's Five-Timers Club, hosted the show in 2000, 2002, 2009, 2015 and 2017.
The Black Adam star has spoken before about his high-protein diet. He told Men's Health in 2022 that he eats the same six meals a day, starting with his breakfast, which includes 'eggs, a meat like bison, a complex carb like oatmeal, and fruit, usually either papaya or blueberries.'
At 10am, he has his second meal, which consists of complex carbs like rice, chicken breasts and greens. For dinner, Johnson indulges on proteins such as chicken, fish, chicken or steak, with a complex carbs dish like sweet potatoes and greens.
In total, his diet is mostly 40% to 45% protein — and that includes daily protein shakes.
Day joined the SNL as a writer in 2013 and transitioned to a cast member in 2016, meaning he crossed paths with Johnson the last two times he hosted the show.
Day told The Post that of all his cast members, he'd most like to do a Dollar Car Rental commercial with Kenan Thompson.
'I know the shoot would be fun as he just makes me laugh,' Day said of Thompson, 46. 'Even if he's just standing there saying nothing, I'm laughing.'
The car rental agency accepted one of his pitches when they shot the commercial at TWA Hotel at New York's JFK Airport.
'In the spot where I play the intense dog dad talking to my dog, I pitched the line, 'I tell everyone at work you're my human son.' Which is pretty weird for a rental car commercial. But they were into it which made me happy,' he shared. 'They weren't scared of getting weird, so they're my kind of people.'
Following the news that the UK is launching its own SNL series, Day told The Post he expects great things from the all-British cast.
'British comedy/comedians have been so influential to comedy as a whole, so I think it's great. I'm curious what the show will be like,' he said. 'Sometimes, British humor's a little more subtle, so maybe it will be a little less loud than its American counterpart?'
Day also said that one of the wildest, unscripted moments he's witnessed on the show was 'Heidi [Gardner] breaking character when she turned around and saw me as Butt-Head,' referring to the 2024 'Beavis and Butt-Head' sketch starring Ryan Gosling.
Some of Day's other most memorable sketches include 'Spelling Bee' with Will Forte, 'Haunted Elevator' with Tom Hanks, 'Washington's Dream' with Nate Bargatze and 'Lord Gaga' with Colin Jost on 'Weekend Update.'
After more than 10 years of working on the show, Day told The Post he's more focused on the present rather than the future of his career.
'The show has trained me to not think beyond the week in front of me,' he said. 'So, right now all I'm thinking about are ideas for [next episode's guest] Quinta Brunson.'

British popstar and former Voice Australia coach Jessie J reveals devastating breast cancer diagnosis

British popstar Jessie J has revealed she's been diagnosed with 'early' breast cancer and will pause her career to undergo treatment. The 37-year-old hitmaker has revealed she was diagnosed with the disease months ago shortly before the release of her most recent single 'No Secrets' in April. In an Instagram video shared on Tuesday, the popstar said that she has spent this year "in and out of tests" before finally receiving the diagnosis about two months ago. "I was diagnosed with early breast cancer," the singer revealed. "I'm highlighting the world early because cancer sucks in any form, but I'm holding on to the word 'early.'" The Grammy-nominated singer, who has one child with professional basketball player Chanan Colman, said she was still 'processing' the news. 'Selfishly, I do not talk about it enough," she said. "I'm not processing it because I'm working so hard. 'I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. I'm an open book." She also expressed her desire to show solidarity with other cancer sufferers going through "similar or worse". "It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse – that's the bit that kills me," Jessie said. The "Flashlight" hitmaker then joked about her treatment plans after her upcoming performance at the Summertime Ball in London on June 15. "It's a very dramatic way to get a boob job," she said. "I am going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive t*ts and more music.' Born Jessica Ellen Cornish, the popstar rocketed to fame off the back of her breakout single 'Price Tag' in 2011, which peaked atop the charts in 19 countries and reached No. 2 on the ARIA chart. The British star also served as a coach on The Voice Australia for two seasons in 2015 and 2016 alongside the Madden brothers, Ricky Martin, Delta Goodrem and Ronan Keating.

Titus Day trial: Guy Sebastian ‘honoured' to support Taylor Swift

Guy Sebastian has revealed how excited he was to support global pop star Taylor Swift on her 2013 tour while taking the stand in the trial of his former manager, who is accused of embezzling $640,000 from Mr Sebastian. Titus Emanuel Day is standing trial for allegedly embezzling $640,000 of Mr Sebastian's royalties and performance fees. This includes the alleged failure to remit $187,000 to Mr Sebastian for performances fees as a support act for Swift on her 2013 Red tour of Australia. It's alleged that Mr Sebastian was also not paid for corporate gigs, performances at the Sydney Opera House, a Big Bash game and Dreamworld and for singing at weddings in Italy and Sydney. Mr Day has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of embezzlement as a clerk or servant and one count of attempting to dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception. He has denied doing anything fraudulent or dishonest. Mr Sebastian told the NSW District Court on Wednesday that he was 'very excited' when Mr Day told him he'd be opening for Swift on her Red tour of Australia in December 2013. 'I was alerted to the fact that I was to be supporting Taylor Swift, which obviously is a big deal – Taylor's a huge artist, and it was a massive get to get that tour,' Mr Sebastian told the court. 'I was really honoured.' Supporting Swift was unlike tours of his own, he said, which at times 'weren't fruitful', as he had to cover all the costs. 'This was an opportunity where it was a guaranteed sum I was being paid,' he explained. Mr Sebastian told the court that he 'wanted to do a really good job' and had even flown in a friend of his to perform alongside him. 'I really made that band as slamming as I possibly could and wanted to do a really good job of this,' he said. Mr Sebastian was going to be paid about $500,000 for the tour but had to pay costs of about $180,000 that included the price of pulling the 'slamming' band together. The court was previously told about $494,000 was paid into an account of Mr Day's 6 Degrees management company by a booking agent following the Swift tour. The Crown alleges Mr Day was entitled to a $59,000 commission, leaving Mr Sebastian the remaining $435,000. However, Mr Day allegedly failed to remit $187,000, with Mr Sebastian only paid about $247,5000. Mr Sebastian told the court on Wednesday that money was supposed to be remitted within a week or two of any performance. 'Within seven or 14 days, but it was clearly indicated to us when the $247,000 was transferred that there was going to be a reconciliation on weeks of the whole tour … we were told that the full reconciliation would be done really soon,' Mr Sebastian told the court. He claimed there were several attempts from his bookkeepers to try to understand the reconciliation for the performances in order to complete a tax return; however, this allegedly was 'never received'. In the years following, Mr Sebastian said he 'assumed it was taken care of'. Mr Day's barrister, Thomas Woods, last week told the court that there would be 'no dispute' that on some occasions his client should have transferred money onto Mr Sebastian 'but did not'. 'For many of the charges, the real question is not going to be whether my client failed to transfer the money to Mr Sebastian but whether his failure to do that was criminal,' Mr Woods said. Mr Sebastian signed with Mr Day at his management company 6 Degrees three years after he won Australian Idol, having previously worked with him at Mr Day's former agency, 22 Management. Despite initially being happy with the arrangement, Mr Sebastian and his team were often chasing statements and clarification on payments before he told Mr Day he was leaving his management in 2017, the court was previously told. Mr Sebastian launched Federal Court proceedings against Mr Day the following year. He in turn filed a counterclaim. The trial continues.

Brooklyn Beckham, Nicola Peltz insider denies friendship with Meghan Markle after couple hired ex-working royal's former lawyer

An insider for Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz has denied the couple sought legal advice from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after they hired the ex-working royal's former lawyer. David and Victoria Beckham's eldest son and his wife appointed British lawyer Jenny Afi of Schilling's law firm amid speculation they have been feuding with Brooklyn's family for years, reported E! News on Tuesday. Ms Afi represented Harry and Meghan several times and defended the Duchess against The Mail on Sunday in 2020 after the British tabloid published parts of a letter she sent to her father Thomas Markle in 2018. On Tuesday, a source with knowledge of the matter said Brooklyn and Nicola's appointment of the Sussex's lawyer was merely a coincidence. 'It's not for reputation management, but to set the record straight, combat spread of misinformation," the source said. 'There is absolutely no connection to Meghan and Harry." The insider backed their assertion by saying, "Schillings is a respected firm" which looks after a "wide range of clients" other than the Sussexes. 'Ironically, the inaccurate reporting proves exactly why one hires legal counsel, to set the record straight and combat the spread of deliberate misinformation," they said. Tensions within the Beckham family have reached an all-time high following the noticeable absence of Brooklyn and Nicola from David's star-studded 50th birthday celebration in April. Last month, a source suggested that the Beckham family has been feuding since Nicola was left "crying" at their 2022 wedding in Florida, California, where singer Marc Anthony gifted Victoria the first dance. 'Brooklyn and Nicola were under the impression they were being gifted their first dance by Marc Anthony,' the source told E! News. 'Marc Anthony announced, 'Please welcome to the stage the most beautiful woman in the room… Victoria Beckham.' "Brooklyn wasn't quite sure what to do and was put in an awkward situation." Nicola was said to have "left the room crying" before she was eventually able to return, collect herself and celebrate the rest of her wedding. Despite the denial that Brooklyn and Nicola have joined forces with the Sussexes, reports emerged Harry and Meghan invited the couple to a small private dinner party at the Sussexes' Montecito mansion last month. The event was reportedly attended by a select few of their friends, including Paramount CEO Brian Robbins and his wife Tracy. According to PR expert Sean O'Meara, of Essential Content, Meghan could be eyeing a "lucrative brand collaboration" with Nicola. "Meghan is big on teaming up with other women, and she and Nicola clearly have a lot in common,' Mr O'Meara said. "And while there's no reason to suggest that the support Meghan and Harry have been showing to the Beckhams is anything other than genuine friendship, any sort of project or campaign the two embark on would generate plenty of interest." The Sussex's friendship with Brooklyn and Nicola could be seen as Meghan getting revenge on her former friend Victoria Beckham. Victoria and David, both 50, attended Harry and Meghan's 2018 wedding alongside the likes of George and Amal Clooney and Oprah Winfrey. However, the friendship hit the rocks not long after the Sussexes left the royal family in 2020. It is alleged Meghan accused Victoria of leaking stories to the press, which left David "furious". The feud reportedly came to a head with a heated phone call between Harry and David, but the superstar couples have since cut all ties.
