Police make multiple arrests as part investigation to dismantle organised crime gang
Police Scotland has made around 100 arrests, seized more than 200 kilograms of illegal drugs, taken three firearms off the street and safeguarded 11 children as part of a significant investigation to dismantle a Scottish organised crime gang.
Operation Intensity, which began in May 2023, involved officers from the Organised Crime and Counter Terrorism Unit and targeted a criminal network operating across the country.
Intelligence indicated the group was well resourced and was exploiting vulnerable people in some of our most deprived communities to fund their crimes.
Couriers travelling by car were used to operate dealing lines, who were then resupplied from safe houses.
The arrests, in both rural and urban areas, took place within a number of local divisions, spanning from Argyll to Tayside.
Forty-six search warrants were executed as part of action to disrupt the gang, which resulted in large quantities of drugs, including cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, pills and herbal cannabis being seized.
More than £600,000 in cash and firearms, including a handgun, air weapon and a BB gun, were also recovered with ammunition from the addresses.
Alongside this enforcement activity, 11 children were safeguarded after officers identified they were at risk from the gang as part of their criminal activities. They were referred to partner agencies or passed into the care of family members.
Detective Superintendent Stevie Elliot said: 'This operation is a clear example of how we use our national resources, alongside the knowledge of our local policing teams, to bring down large gangs operating across the country.
'Our strategy was maximising the safety of the public and protecting vulnerable people, particularly children and young people who are all too often coerced and groomed by County Lines drug dealers.
'Organised criminal gangs show no shame or remorse for their actions and all their activities are focused on profiting from exploitation.
'These arrests and seizures highlight our dedication to tackling organised networks in Scotland. Illegal substances cause real harm and misery to individuals, families and communities.
'This shows our commitment to the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce where we work with partners on a multi-agency approach to tackling the threat of OCGs.
'We cannot do this alone and we need the public's help to rid these gangs from their communities. I would urge anyone with information or concerns about drugs or organised activities should contact Police Scotland on 101 or make a call anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.'

In the first of the Harry Potter books the wizarding schoolboy lives in the cupboard under the stairs of his aunt and uncle's house. The report on the HMO properties said that during a visit by licensing, police and fire officers, it was found 14 people were living in the two houses which had a limit of between six and ten tenants. Single beds were discovered in garden sheds at both properties and one tenant told officers they paid their rent in cash and received no receipts. Historic complaints about the HMO use of the houses, on Hope Park, saw neighbours accuse tenants of taking drugs in the garden, antisocial behaviour, and disturbances day and night. The report also said a meeting at council headquarters between the landlord, the licensing officer and homelessness team had been held in December 2023 where concerns were raised that tenant/lodger agreements were not in place for those living in the houses. It added there was "frequent presentations to the homelessness team from former tenants of (the properties) and potential presentations from current lodgers due to both properties being in breach of HMO legislation". The report outlined a timeline of events over the last two years including enforcement action over unauthorised use of the homes as HMOs, application forms which were incomplete and breaches of a rent suspension order. The sub committee will consider new applications which have now been lodged for the properties to operate as HMOs however its own planning department has lodged an objection saying both houses are the subject of an 'ongoing enforcement investigation' relating to planning permission for the use. The committee will meet to decide the licences next Thursday, June 12.

Aberdeen police lift lid on e-bike crackdown which has seen 12 bikes, £10k cash and £20k in drugs seized
Police have lifted the lid on their e-bike crackdown, which has seen cops seize 12 motorcycles, £10,000 in cash, and £20,000 worth of drugs in Aberdeen. Dedicated patrols have been taking place to enforce legislation around the dangerous and illegal use of off-road e-bikes. This comes following a string of incidents relating to e-bikes in the Granite City. In the initiative known as Operation Armour, several vehicles and prohibited items were seized during May, including: Throughout the process, several individuals were arrested for various offences. The offences range from driving charges to possession of a weapon.
