‘Multiple suspects' wanted in Toronto shooting that left 1 dead, 5 hurt
Toronto police say they're looking for 'multiple suspects' after one man was killed and five others were hurt in a shooting Tuesday night
Around 8:40 p.m., police said they were called to the area of Flemington Road and Zachary Court, not far south of Yorkdale Mall, for reports of a shooting.
Police initially said four people had been shot and were having their injuries assessed by first responders, later updating that number to five. Paramedics, who took the victims to hospital in Toronto, said the number was six.
In total, four men and one woman with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds were taken to hospital
One man was confirmed dead by police just before 10 p.m.

Duty Senior Officer Baheer Sarvanandan told reporters at the scene the man was in his 40s, and that police are looking for 'multiple suspects.' He did not have any further information about them.

'This is a very complex, large scene, with many officers attending to the scene to make sure that the ambulances had access and egress to take them to the hospital in time,' he said.

Sarvanandan added there was no risk to public safety.
Mayor Olivia Chow said in a statement on X she was 'disturbed' by the incident.
'Disturbed by news of the shootings in the Lawrence Heights area this evening. My office is in contact with Toronto Police, who are on scene now and investigating, and the local councillor Deputy Mayor Mike Colle,' she wrote Tuesday night.
'I want to thank the first responders – Toronto Police, Fire and Paramedic services for your work on a very busy and challenging scene.'

3 people in hospital following apartment fire in North York
Three people have been hospitalized following a fire in North York late Sunday morning, says Toronto fire. The blaze broke out at a highrise residence near Park Home Avenue and Beecroft Road, which is north of Sheppard Avenue West and west of Yonge Street, in Willowdale. Toronto police say they were called to that area just before 11 a.m. after receiving reports of a fire inside an apartment building. Toronto fire said the fire, which was uipgraded to a two-alarm incident but is now under control, appears to have started in an electrical panel. They added that 'heavy smoke migration' in the building lead to multiple ladder and interior rescues. Some tenants were evacuated as a precaution and TTC buses were brought in to provide shelter, said police, who added that the fire is not 'criminal in nature.' Road closures remain in effect on Park Home Avenue between Yonge Street and Tamworth Road, and on Beecroft Road.

World Pride celebrations end with defiant politics on display in Washington
After the raucous rainbow-hued festivities of Saturday's parade, the final day of World Pride 2025 in Washington kicked off on a more downbeat note. Thousands gathered under grey skies Sunday morning at the Lincoln Memorial for a rally and protest march, as the community gathers its strength for a looming fight under U.S. President Donald Trump's second administration. Smith acknowledged that international attendance numbers for the bi-annual World Pride were measurably down, with many potential attendees avoiding travel to the U.S. due to either fear of harassment or in protest of Trump's policies.
