SEBI bars actor Arshad Warsi, wife, brother from market for violating rules

Mumbai May 30 (UNI)The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on Friday barred Bollywood actor Arshad Hussain Warsi, his wife Maria Goretti Warsi and others from accessing the securities market for a period of one year, following their alleged involvement in a coordinated 'pump and dump' scheme related to shares of Sadhna Broadcast Limited (SBL).
The regulator imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh each on Arshad and his wife Maria and restrained them from the securities market for 1 year, as per an order passed by SEBI on Thursday
The regulator also barred 57 other entities and persons including Warsi's brother Iqbal Warsi from the market for periods ranging from one to five years.
The order passed by SEBI Whole Time Member Ashwani Bhatia notes that Arshad Warsi, his brother Iqbal and Goretti were complicit in the market manipulation scheme orchestrated by the mastermind, Manish Mishra.
The probe was initiated after complaints were received between July and September 2022 alleging stock price manipulation in Sadhna Broadcast shares, promoted by misleading YouTube videos and a large-scale paid marketing campaign. UNI AAA SSP

Delhi: NDMC to build 27-metre clock tower at Talkatora roundabout

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will construct a clock tower at the Talkatora roundabout as a grand architectural landmark, Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal said on Sunday. He said that the clock tower would be approximately 27 metre tall and feature a 2-meter clock. Chahal stated that the project has received approval from the Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC) and aims to establish a distinct identity within Lutyens' Delhi. The NDMC Vice Chairman added that most municipal bodies across the country have iconic clock towers as their symbols, and now NDMC will also develop such a grand architectural landmark. The structure will have an octagonal design, constructed using RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete), and will be adorned with a layer of clay bricks. The surrounding area will feature granite flooring, steel railings, and marble decorations. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 1.3 crore, and the target is to complete construction by December 2025. Chahal said: 'Clock towers are not just timekeeping devices; they are also symbols of a city's identity, heritage, and architectural significance. Historically, they have played a vital role in providing public time information.' This clock tower will not only serve as a new attraction for Lutyens' Delhi but also mark the entry point into the NDMC area from nearby MCD regions such as Rajendra Nagar and Karol Bagh, he said. The tower will include internal stairs to facilitate maintenance and repairs. For safety, railings will be installed around the tower, and the base will be decorated with marble, he said. Chahal added that the project is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "Viksit Bharat @2047" and reflects the national mission of beautifying Indian cities and preserving cultural heritage. This grand architectural structure in the NDMC area will not only provide timekeeping but also stand as a symbol of national pride, cultural identity, and urban elegance, he said.

Two held in RJD neta murder case

Buxar: Police on Sunday claimed to have cracked the murder of Arjun Yadav, president of the RJD labour cell in Buxar, by arresting two alleged shooters, including a minor. Yadav was shot dead on May 26 at the main gate of the Chausa power plant under the Mufassil police station area. He died on way to Varanasi after being referred from sadar hospital. Buxar SP Shubham Arya said a contract worth Rs 3 lakh was given by Manish Gupta of Bhojpur, who is absconding. The motive was a dispute over criminal dominance and contracts. Two suspects – Toofani Kumar Gupta of Jaipur village under Itadhi police station and a minor – have been arrested. "Both confessed during interrogation," said the SP. Police recovered a country-made pistol, two cellphones and the clothes worn during the murder. A special investigation team, led by SDPO Dheeraj Kumar, was formed and used CCTV footage, technical surveillance and human intelligence to make the arrests. "Raids are on to arrest the main accused, Manish. Only after his arrest can the full conspiracy be uncovered," Arya said. Investigations are also under way into the involvement of the eight named accused listed in the FIR. Police said all absconders would be arrested and brought to justice soon.

Udayamperoor panchayat plans to add new assets to register

Kochi: Udayamperoor panchayat, with its 20 wards, is set to add 56 roads, a library and fish landing centres to its asset register. It has invited responses from public, seeking objections, if any, to the move. Panchayat authorities said delay in including these assets in its register results in unavailability of funds for their restoration. Failure to declare gramin library in the assets register led to lapse of Rs 10 lakh allotted from MLA fund. "Failure to include roads in the register resulted in bad condition of roads. Govt can allot funds only if roads are entered in our assets register as public property," said panchayat vice-president Gopi S A. When Sebastian Paul was MP, AKG library was set up using his fund. It belongs to local body. However, it has not been included in the asset register. Earlier, Rs 10 lakh was allotted from MLA fund and we planned to set up a hall on the second floor of library building. But govt issued an order mandating that public properties should be included in asset register of the local body to utilize public money for developments. Following this, we cancelled the project. The latest move is to avoid such situations in future," he said.
