The old-school electronics on display at the MacSmiths, a computer repair shop on an unremarkable road in the East London borough of Hackney, stand in sharp contrast to the analog world one level down. If you don't see any staff upstairs, ring the doorbell at the top of the steps, then descend into a sprawling parlorlike space packed with Victorian-style furniture, paintings, clocks and curiosities. The foliage that grows and hangs throughout the room signals the fresh-ingredient-centric cocktail list. Cocktails can be made with fennel, chamomile and other plants that the bartender-owner Josh Powell forages from as close by as Walthamstow Wetlands.
Open Tuesday through Sunday, reservations recommended on weekends; drinks from 12 pounds, or about $16.

Edinburgh residents opened their windows to find themselves in the future, after a film set transformed the city streets. Those in the old town will have spotted cast and crew on set, with several spots in the area taken over for filming. The Warner Bros set is understood to be JJ Abrams upcoming movie, Ghostwriter. Music group to launch European tour with concert in West Monkton
A renowned music group will launch their European tour with a concert near Taunton. The Monteverdi String Band will unveil their new programme of Italian Baroque and Renaissance music at St Augustine's Church in West Monkton. The concert, on Friday, July 11, at 7pm, will feature Hannah Ely, an international early music soprano, who gained fame as a soloist with groups such as The Sixteen, The Tallis Scholars, and John Eliot Gardiner's Monteverdi choir. The performance is part of a special event hosted by Music on the Quantocks, who won a national competition for the band to test their new concert. Hannah will perform alongside the Monteverdi String Band's leading violinist Oliver Webber and the band's lutenist Toby Carr, who will play the lute and theorbo – a giant lute almost six feet in length. The programme will include pieces by Palestrina, Monteverdi, and other master composers of the Italian Baroque era. The church's lawns will also be open and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will be served. To reserve your seat, email quantocks@ and inform them of how many seats you would like. Once contacted, they will send a seating diagram to help choose your preferred spot. Seats are priced at £8, £12, £16, £18, and £20, with payment options via BACS bank transfer or cheque. PICTURES: Picnic in the Park a roaring success despite wet weather
THE weather did not stop Salisbury Live's latest event from being a roaring success, as picnic in the park was acclimatised at the 11th hour. On Saturday, June 7, Picnic in the Park moved into Alderbury Village Hall and Social Club due to the poor weather forecast. However, the atmosphere remained fantastic as acts performed to a packed hall and food vendors set up in the park and traded well once the sun emerged. Sunday, June 8 saw improved weather for the Acoustic Sunday at the George & Dragon pub. Sounds of Salisbury programmed and facilitated the celebration of some of the most popular acoustic acts. Acoustic Sunday has now become a mainstay in the Salisbury Live festival programme and this year's event was busy from start to finish.
