Why are Indian players wearing black armbands during Day 1 of the first Test between England and India?
India and England players and support staff will wear black armbands on day one of the first Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series at Headingley, Leeds, on Friday, in tribute to the victims of the Air India plane crash.
The Indian players had also worn black armbands and observed a minute's silence ahead of the intra-squad practice match that began on June 13.
On June 12, an Air India passenger plane flying from Ahmedabad to London crashed moments after takeoff from the Ahmedabad airport.
Both teams will wear black armbands today as a mark of respect for those who lost their lives in the Air India plane crash.

Only one person survived. The total death toll rose to 265 after the aircraft crashed into a medical college complex.
According to the airline, the flight was carrying 230 passengers — including 69 Indians, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian — along with 12 crew members.

Paris Diamond League: Neeraj Chopra aims for top spot after consecutive runner-up finishes
New Delhi: After back-to-back second-place finishes this season, Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra will look to go one better when he takes the field in the Paris Diamond League at the Stade Sebastien Charlety in the early hours of Saturday (1:12 AM IST). This will be Chopra's first appearance at the Paris Diamond League since 2017 when he finished fifth with a throw of 84.67m as a junior world champion. Eight years later, the stakes are higher, and the field significantly stronger. The Paris meet is the eighth stop on the 2025 Diamond League circuit, which will conclude with the two-day final in Zurich this August. Chopra began his 2025 campaign with a win at the Potch Invitational in South Africa, throwing 84.52m. But it was in Doha that he truly made headlines, breaching the elusive 90m mark for the first time with a sensational 90.23m effort — a new Indian national record.
