Health issues no barrier to achieving dream career, says teacher
HAVING a hole in his heart has not stopped Amin Mustaqim Mohd Yassin from pursuing his dream of becoming a teacher.
Harian Metro reported that Amin Mustaqim was diagnosed at the age of 12 and has sinced lived his life differently from his peers.
However, the 25-year-old is now just a step away from becoming a teacher after completing his practical training at SMK Bandar Baru Sultan Sulaiman in Klang, Selangor.
'I have been ill for a long time, and the situation worsened after my late father suffered from a mysterious illness,' he recalled.
'The hardest time was during my studies at the Matriculation College when I couldn't finish my studies, though I only had a month left to go.
'I continued my studies in education because I wanted to become a teacher, as it was my late father's wish,' he said.
Amin Mustaqim added that he started working as a trainee teacher last April and taught mathematics to Form Two and Form Four students.
'I never imagined I would reach this level, as I thought it would be tough for me after being diagnosed with the illness.
'But I'm grateful because my mother encouraged me and sacrificed a lot after my father passed away,' he said, encouraging others to pursue their dreams.
> Actor-singer Dafi has denied knowledge about an investigation into his former brother-in-law Datuk Jovian Mandagie by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Kosmo! reported that Dafi, however, prayed that Jovian would be able to handle whatever challenges he is facing.
'I can't comment because I'm not sure about his predicament and rarely keep in touch with him,' said the son of former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
When asked about the last time he communicated with Jovian, Dafi said they only talked about his niece, Jeanelle Nika Mandagie.
'I don't remember, but it wasn't too long ago. Alhamdulillah, everything is fine,' he added.
According to sources, the testimony of the 39-year-old fashion designer will be recorded by the MACC at a location in Jakarta, as he resides there.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki reportedly said Jovian was named as a witness by Ismail Sabri when the latter's statement was recorded to verify assets declared to the MACC.

Love scam targets US men
Police have arrested dozens on the popular resort island of Bali for allegedly running a love scam syndicate targeting American men. Police made the arrests after being tipped off about suspicious activity at a rented home in Denpasar, the island's capital. A total of 38 suspects, seven of them women, were arrested. 'The suspects arrested worked as operators whose job is to find the love scam victims, they targeted Americans who have a Telegram account,' said Bali police chief Daniel Adityajaya. 'They pretended to be women by using women's pictures and fake identity to ensnare their victims.' The suspects confessed to working for someone who controlled the business from Cambodia to lure Americans to hand over sensitive information, Daniel said. They chatted up their victims through Telegram and sent them fake links. The suspects were paid US$200 (RM845) each per month to steal the victims' data and information. The suspects, all Indonesians, face up to 12 years in prison if found guilty of violating the country's electronic transaction law. Police had previously said many scammers had moved to Indonesia and other South-East Asian countries after a crackdown in China. In 2019, Indonesian police arrested 85 Chinese nationals and six Indonesians over an online scam that tricked victims out of millions of dollars. In 2023, they arrested 88 Chinese nationals in Batam for running a syndicate that has scammed hundreds of victims in China by luring them into sexual acts and then blackmailing them with video footage. Many of the victims were public officials, police said. — AFP

MACC deploys tactical squad to probe 'Tan Sri' in sukuk misappropriation case
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today enlisted the assistance of the Anti-Corruption Tactical Squad (Acts) to record the statement of a 'Tan Sri' in connection with the investigation into the misappropriation of highway construction sukuk funds. This move followed the MACC's suspicion of a secret room at the individual's residence in Bandar Tasik Selatan, Cheras, believed to contain weapons and valuable assets related to the case. Sources said Acts personnel, along with two investigating officers, were deployed to search specific rooms suspected of storing assets linked to the misappropriated funds. It is understood that a team of Acts members arrived at the Tan Sri's home in four vehicles earlier this morning. A white Toyota Vios carrying MACC officers was seen entering the compound at 8.45am. It is also learnt that one of the entrances to the businessman's residence was sealed off by auxiliary police from a private security company. Traffic cones and barriers were placed at the entrance to the premises, while auxiliary police were seen preventing media personnel from approaching the location. Separately, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki told Buletin Utama that the deployment of Acts was necessary for specific reasons. "There are particular grounds for involving the team, chiefly to ensure the security of any items or exhibits that may be recovered. "So I cannot provide further details at this time, as I have yet to receive a full briefing on what was discovered during the raid on the Tan Sri's home," he told TV3 when contacted. Meanwhile, Azam confirmed that the process of recording the Tan Sri's statement is ongoing as part of the investigation. "So far, we have recorded statements from approximately 53 witnesses in this case. Many more will be called in to have their statements taken," he said. He was speaking at a press conference after the 2nd Convocation Ceremony of the Certified Law Enforcement Programme 2025, organised by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (Maca) today.
