The truth of van life: I left UK for better life abroad – it's been beautiful but I never realised how hard it would get
THIS brave traveller ditched her 9-to-5 life for an epic three-year journey across Europe and has travelled 80,000 miles so far.
While for many this sounds like the dream, but Alice Sutton shares tough realities of leaving a settled life in the UK.

Alice Sutton, 25, was born in Italy, but is from Woking and spent seven months converting her £12,000 ex-British gas VW Caddy Maxi - which she called Remi for a travel adventure.
So far she's travelled through France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Gibraltar,
Despite loving her van life, Alice shared how tough it can be on the road - especially travelling solo.
Alice revealed: 'I have had a breakdown and a break-in in the space of a week."

Despite the setbacks, Alice insists she's never lonely. She said: 'I can't help but be amazed and excited by the incredible natural world and places I travel.
'I sometimes wish I could share the moments with particular people, or course, but being solo doesn't detract from the moment."
While Alice is happy with her lifestyle choices, she confessed that along the way, she does get some strange questions.
Mostly, people ask where she showers and where she goes to the toilet - to which Alice is always happy to tell them about a nature-wee.

The worst part about van life for Alice is the lack of warm showers in the winter as well as the unfriendliness of town councils all over the UK and Europe to people travelling in a van.

Alice added that there are 'no overnight camping' signs in lots of the destinations she goes to, which makes it difficult for her to park up and rest.
Before taking on the van life Alice lived in student rental houses with friends at university and then with her parents while the van conversion was underway.
All lifestyles have pros and cons, but Alice has found the one that works for her.
She originally bought her van six months after graduating and knew that she always knew she wanted to commit to 'van life'.

Luckily Alice's job as a digital marketer allows her to work remotely for six months of the year.
After travelling for years, Alice says other people wanting to do the same should just commit because that's the most difficult part of making it happen.
And she added that for anyone wanting to travel in a van, you should spend money to get all the best bits - or risk setting yourself up to fail.

Police hurried to the scene and found the 54-year-old washed up on a beach in Koh Phangan, southern Thailand. This year's event is scheduled for next week on June 10. The woman was transported to the Koh Phangan Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police Lieutenant Pongnaphat Somboon of the Koh Phangan Police Station stated: "An X-ray of the victim's body found a large amount of sand and water in her lungs. We believe the cause of death was drowning. We will call the British Embassy to notify her relatives." The woman was discovered by local resident Theerapong while he was out for a stroll in the area at 6.30am. Authorities said the woman had been on the island for about a month and was residing in a nearby bungalow. She intended to check out of the accommodation on June 11 - one day after the island's Full Moon Party. Staff noted the woman frequently consumed alcohol and it's been reported she injured her head after a tumble outside a supermarket on June 2. Locals came to her aid, escorting her back to her accommodation, where she declined any medical help. Upon discovering her remains, officers conducted a room check and found her possessions undisturbed. The woman is thought to have last been observed enjoying a swim at the beach on Monday evening. Police Lieutenant Pongnaphat commented: "We do not believe there is anything suspicious but CCTV images will be checked to ensure that the death was accidental." Fatalities sadly continue to loom over sought-after spots such as Phuket, Pattaya, and Krabi due to potent rip currents, inadequate swimming skills, and ignoring safety signage. Man remanded in custody after alleged Garda assault on plane at Dublin Airport
A British man remains remanded in custody tonight over an alleged air rage incident at Dublin Airport. Gavin Howard Risden, 48 and of no fixed abode, was remanded in custody until next week over the incident in which a garda was allegedly assaulted on a plane that had just landed from America. The alleged assault happened after officers were called to a United Airlines flight that had just landed at Dublin Airport from Newark in New Jersey. Mr Risden appeared in court charged with five offences on Tuesday. He is charged with one count of assault causing harm. He faces a further two counts of the wilful obstruction of a peace officer under section 19 of the Public Order Act. He also faces two charges under the Air Navigation and Transport Act 1973 section 2A(2) and section 2A(3) respectively. One is under section 2A(2), which is of engaging in behaviour that is likely to cause serious offence or annoyance to any person on board the aircraft, at any time after having been requested by a member of the crew of the aircraft to cease such behaviour. He faces another charge under section 2A(3), which is of engaging in behaviour of a threatening, abusive or insulting nature whether by word or gesture with intent to cause a breach of the peace or being reckless as to whether a breach of the peace might be occasioned. He was remanded in custody until next Tuesday. The Garda allegedly assaulted in the incident was taken to Dublin's Beaumont Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
