IMD predicts more rain, thunderstorm in Assam; issues RED alert warning; full weather forecast here
Incessant rains over the past few days across the northeastern states triggered landslides and caused flash floods but no relief seems to be in near sight as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted more precipitation for the region today. A red alert warning has been issued for Assam Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to continue over northeastern states till June 3 and over sub-Himalayan West Bengal till June 2, IMD said. The Meteorological Department is its weather bulletin dated June 1 stated, 'Light/moderate rainfall at most/many places likely to continue over northeast India during next 7 days with heavy rainfall during next 5 days. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely over Assam & Meghalaya" until June 3 and in Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on June 2.
The weather agency further noted possibility of light to moderate rainfall over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the coming 5 to 6 days while isolated heavy rainfall is likely on June 2.
In Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Odisha thunderstorm will be accompanied by light to moderate rainfall, lightning and gusty winds until June 4.
It is important to note that Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir are on orange alert today as dust storm is likely in former and thundersquall in both. 'Thundersquall wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph likely over Jammu-Kashmir on 02nd & 03rd, Himachal Pradesh on 03rd & 04th, West Uttar Pradesh on 03rd, East Rajasthan on 02nd & 03rd June,' IMD stated in its latest press release.

Gurgaon: The city's minimum temperature rose slightly on Tuesday to 22.4 degrees Celsius, 0.7 degrees higher than the previous day. IMD issued a yellow alert, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds ranging from 40 to 50 kmph. The alert remains in effect until next Thursday. The current weather is expected to provide temporary comfort, though officials caution that conditions may change rapidly. Meanwhile, Delhi on Tuesday experienced overcast skies with a drop in temperature. However, the city is likely to witness light rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds until Thursday.

Isolated showers bring respite as day temperature drops 9 degrees below normal
Indore: Several parts of Indore experienced brief but intense rainfall on Tuesday morning, accompanied by gusty winds, offering much-needed relief from the rising summer temperature. The rain began around 10am in various parts of the city and lasted for 10–15 minutes, with wind gusts reaching up to 56 kmph, the highest recorded wind speed in Madhya Pradesh during the period. The downpour and strong winds led to a significant dip in temperature. The maximum temperature on Tuesday dropped to 31.3 degrees Celsius, a notable 9 degrees below normal, compared to 34.6 degrees Celsius on Monday. The minimum temperature was recorded at 24.9 degrees Celsius, one degree below average. The temperature at 8:30 am was 27.8 degrees Celsius with 66% relative humidity. By 5:30 pm, the temperature stood at 28.6 degrees Celsius, with 63% humidity following rainfall in the evening. Winds continued to blow from the west at a speed of 27 kmph during the day, dropping to 6 kmph in the evening. Indore wasn't alone in experiencing rainfall. Showers were also reported in Ujjain, Neemuch, Dhar, Khargone, and Mandsaur districts. Notably, Khargone received nearly 25 mm of rain, leading to waterlogging in the local grain market, causing damage to maize stock. In Neemuch's Jawad region, heavy rainfall over two hours caused the Morvan stream to overflow. In Dhar, even short spells of rain resulted in water accumulation on roads and gusty winds disrupting daily activities. The IMD has issued a rain and thunderstorm alert for several districts including Indore, Jhabua, Alirajpur, and Dhar. Winds ranging from 40 to 60 kmph are expected in parts of Indore, Ujjain, Mandsaur, and adjoining districts over the next 24 hours. As per meteorologists, monsoon activity continues to progress gradually, with the northern limit of monsoon currently reaching up to Ahilyanagar and beyond. No major temperature change is forecast for the next two days, after which temperatures may rise by 2 to 3 degrees.

Telangana to get active rain spell after June 7: IMD
Hyderabad: Several districts in Telangana, including Suryapet, Nalgonda, Khammam and Mahabubabad, experienced light to moderate rainfall on Tuesday, accompanied by a few isolated spells of thunder and lightning. Due to the dry spell of the last three days, temperatures have risen. The western and southern parts of the state, including Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar and Vikarabad, recorded temperatures between 33⁰Celsius and 45⁰Celsius. Meanwhile, northern, eastern and some central parts of Telangana experienced temperatures between 37⁰Celsius and 40⁰Celsius. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers in isolated areas of Telangana over the next few days. Gusty winds are also expected in isolated areas, particularly in Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Warangal, Siddipet, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy districts. "After 7 June, a good spell of rain is likely to return. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and continue to follow weather updates," said an IMD official.
