MACC looking at governance aspects in Raub land encroachment probe, says Azam
KUALA LUMPUR: Graft-busters will investigate land encroachment in Raub, Pahang by focusing on governance and allegations of corruption involving the Lands and Mines Department (PTG), says Tan Sri Azam Baki.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner said investigations on land encroachment started in 2021.
"Given the new issues that emerged, we will resume the investigation.
"We will look into how the land encroachment was allowed to occur (and) also investigate aspects of governance practiced by PTG," he told a press conference after the graduation ceremony for participants of the Certified Integrity Officer (CEIO) programme on Tuesday (April 22).

It was reported that the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, stressed that state land must not be encroached upon arbitrarily and that firm action should be taken against those involved.
His Royal Highness also called on the people to serve as his "eyes and ears" by reporting any land encroachment activities in the state.
"Don't allow anyone to encroach on Pahang's land. I get upset too when I hear about these cases. It is time we take firm action against them (intruders).
"Protect this land, the land of Pahang, to the best of your ability," he said.
However, the Ruler advised that such matters be resolved amicably, with all shortcomings addressed in a harmonious manner.
Previously, an enforcement operation at a durian farm in Raub sparked various reactions after farmers reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the destruction of their crops.
The Pahang government has denied violating a court order when it felled around 200 Musang King durian trees during the enforcement operation in Sungai Klau, Raub, on April 8.

To eradicate or at least significantly reduce corruption, he said it is time for Malaysia to send a stronger message. The inclusion of whipping — a form of corporal punishment known for its deterrent effect — would serve as a powerful signal that corruption is a heinous crime and will be dealt with firmly and decisively. 'This proposal is not about cruelty but about proportional justice and the need for real consequences that match the gravity of the offence. 'Malaysians deserve a clean and accountable government. To achieve that, our laws must evolve in tandem with the challenges we face. 'Don't forget, in China, the punishment for corruption is 'shoot' to death depending on the degree and amount of corrupted money received,' said Chin. Therefore, he urged the government, relevant ministers, and members of parliament to consider this amendment seriously in the next parliamentary sitting. 'This is in line with the intended reform by our present federal government,' he said.

Ex-MACC chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad joins Umno
BUTTERWORTH: Former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad has joined Umno, reports said. According to Utusan Malaysia, Dzulkifli submitted his membership form to Merbau Kudong Umno branch chief Mohd Ramli Daud during a ceremony in Sungai Dua last night. "I believe the time is right for me to get involved in a political party. I've officially become an Umno member. "I will continue my efforts to help the people of Tasek Gelugor, just as I have done before through my own initiative and office (Tan Sri Dzulkifli's Office or TSDZ). "What matters most is continuing to serve the community here, regardless of race or religion," he was quoted as saying. He said he chose Umno because of its historical significance and expressed hope of bringing a fresh perspective to the party. "Umno needs to return as a unifying force for the Malay community and Malaysians as a whole," he said. Dzulkifli had previously hinted at entering politics during the 15th General Election in 2022 and was widely speculated to contest the Tasek Gelugor parliamentary seat. However, those rumours did not materialise.
