A Look Back at the Guerrilla Girls, 40 Years In
This article is part of our Museums special section about how artists and institutions are adapting to changing times.
When it comes to artists whose works have a decidedly feminist bent, the Guerrilla Girls are among the most prominent.
Composed of a collective of anonymous artists, they first made their mark in 1985 with declarative message-bearing prints that spoke out against discrimination and advocated for more inclusivity in the art world.
Since then, the group has created hundreds of provocative prints, posters, billboards and everyday objects, including tote bags and erasers. Their pieces address such issues as reproductive rights, gender and racial inequality and political corruption.
The Guerrilla Girls' art is displayed in major museums worldwide, including the Tate Modern in London, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, and the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Guerrilla Girls, and the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) is commemorating the moment with an exhibition, 'Guerrilla Girls: Making Trouble,' on view now to Sept. 28. Today in History: June 6, Allies land in Normandy on D-Day
In 1889, an industrial accident sparked a devastating fire in Seattle, Wash., destroying 120 acres of the city center, including the majority of the city's commercial district and waterfront. In 1912, Novarupta, a volcano on the Alaska peninsula, began a three-day eruption, sending ash nearly 19 miles high; it was the most powerful volcanic eruption of the 20th century and the largest ever recorded in North America. Rayan Cherki chooses between Liverpool and Man City after Arne Slot meeting
Rayan Cherki has decided that he wants to join Manchester City this summer, as Lyon prepares to offload its star player. Cherki's current contract with the French club is due to expire next year, and City is expected to part with a transfer fee of between $39 million and $46 million to land the talented attacker, who had also been linked with Liverpool. Advertisement The 21-year-old has been highly regarded for several years due to his fantastic technique, and he is coming off the best season of his career, having netted 12 times in all competitions, which marks the first time he has reached double figures for goals. Cherki told L'Equipe in an interview this week that he is ready to leave Lyon. "I'm ready for any system. I work every day, physically and mentally, to be ready," Cherki said. "Above all, I'm trying to choose the best option for me, to develop as a person and a footballer." But I'll say it: I did what I wanted to do at OL, be a true Lyonnais and give everything for my club. "I didn't leave the ship in difficulty. I stayed, I gritted my teeth. I cried, I laughed, I was scared. But a man has to be like that, it's part of his DNA. Even when it's hard, even when you cry, even when you're scared, you have to go to war for your club." Cherki's decision to join City comes after Arne Slot reportedly flew to the south of France last week to meet the player and discuss a possible transfer to Liverpool. According to The Athletic, the Liverpool head coach briefly left his vacation to conduct the meeting before negotiations with Florian Wirtz intensified. Advertisement The Reds are continuing to work on a deal to sign Germany international Wirtz, after it emerged last month that he had opted to join the Anfield club ahead of Bayern Munich. Liverpool will have to smash its transfer record to get a deal for Wirtz over the line, with reports suggesting it could take a bid of €150 million ($171 million) to pry the 22-year-old away from Bayer Leverkusen. That kind of fee would not only make him Liverpool's record signing — it would also make him one of the most expensive signings in soccer history: only Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have moved clubs for bigger transfer fees in the past. Wirtz's status as one of the most valuable players in the world is expected to be reflected in a monster salary at Liverpool, with German outlet Bild saying that his contract is set to be worth between $23 million and $25 million gross per season. That will make him Liverpool's third highest-paid player behind Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, who are both believed to earn well in excess of $25 million per year before tax.

Musk Calls for Trump's Impeachment and Implies He Is a Pedophile
Sign up for the Slatest to get the most insightful analysis, criticism, and advice out there, delivered to your inbox daily. Well, people have predicted for a long time that there would be a falling-out between Elon Musk and Donald Trump, two narcissists with a tendency to blame other people for their many self-inflicted problems. And now it's very much happening! The background: Trump is trying to pass his One Big Beautiful Bill Act through Congress, legislation featuring enormous tax cuts that will increase the federal deficit by an estimated $2.4 trillion. Musk, meanwhile, was already moping around about how his work with the Department of Governmental Efficiency had not succeeded in slashing enough money from the federal budget (which is in large part because Musk never really seemed to understand how the United States government works or what it actually spends money on). This week, his frustration boiled over when Musk denounced the Trump budget as 'pork' and demanded that Republicans in Congress refuse to pass it. At what was supposed to be a Thursday press conference about his meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Trump took a moment to address Musk's comments, essentially announcing that the world's richest man was being exiled from the presidential inner circle: In response, Musk threatened to launch a new political party: Trump, responding himself, said Musk had been annoying him for a long time, then threatened to terminate the considerable number of government contracts that benefit Musk's SpaceX company: At this point, things really got quite rude, with Musk implying that Trump took part in the sexual abuse of minors with the late Jeffrey Epstein: To be clear, there is no evidence that this is true, or even that Musk is referring to real, actual files, although it is true that Trump and Epstein were friendly, and that minors who competed in the Miss Teen USA competition complained that Trump walked into their dressing room while they were changing clothes. Musk then retweeted a prominent far-right user who called for Trump to be impeached and replaced by Vice President J.D. Vance, writing, 'yes.' He also said he would 'immediately' begin decommissioning the Dragon space shuttle, which carries astronauts to and from the International Space Station. Could be bad news for the four astronauts who are up there now. No response to any of this from the president, although right-wing nationalist Steve Bannon—who has always been suspicious of Musk's foreign birth and ties to international corporate capital—is calling for him to be deported (and, honestly, with this administration, is anything out of the question here?). Look, the record of Donald Trump's second term so far is one of illegal overreach, naked corruption, and dalliance with catastrophe. Its lasting effects could include the end of the United States' primacy in world affairs and the permanent kneecapping of its prosperity. The qualities that for hundreds of years have made the U.S. a destination for the world's brightest and hardest-working strivers are being destroyed by men and women whose unfamiliarity with the subjects under their control is matched only by their history of being into weird Nazi stuff online. Trump himself seems to be getting mentally slower and often appears unfamiliar with actions taken by his own government. It's bad stuff. On the other hand, this—today—is all pretty funny. Unless you're an astronaut.
