Launch of the first "Basta" exhibition
On Monday, the University of Kalba inaugurated the first edition of the "Basta" exhibition for Small and Medium Enterprises, with participation from both current students and alumni, alongside several government entities and institutions.
Opening ceremony attended by university leadership
The exhibition's opening ceremony was attended by Dr Najwa Alhosani, Chancellor of the University, Dr Ali Obaid Al Zaabi, and a number of college deans and members of the academic and administrative staff.
Exhibition aims to foster creativity and market readiness
Speaking to 'Sharjah 24, Dr Al Zaabi noted that the exhibition aligns with the university's strategy to support innovation and encourage students with creative talents to explore the job market.
Annual event showcases student projects
He explained that the exhibition, which will be held annually and continues until next Thursday, features various marketing pavilions showcasing student-led small and medium-sized businesses. These include perfumes, incense, photography, drawing, clothing, food, and beverages.
Collaboration with government entities
Dr Al Zaabi also praised the involvement of several government departments and institutions, such as the Sharjah Foundation to Support Pioneering Entrepreneurs (RUWAD) and the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, in enriching the exhibition experience.

2 June 2025 20:34 MOSCOW (WAM) The United Arab Emirates participated in the 42nd Plenary Meeting of the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering (EAG) and its accompanying forum, which was co-organised by the Eurasian Group and the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF) in Moscow, joint forum on regulation and risks marked the first-ever event to bring together two regional FATF-style bodies, reflecting the growing strategic partnership and international cooperation in addressing global risks associated with money laundering and terrorist financing. The forum focused on the theme 'Risk Management in the Era of Modern Technology,' with participation from over 200 high-level representatives from anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing authorities, regulatory bodies, financial intelligence units, the private sector, international organisations, and UAE delegation was led by Hamid Al Zaabi, Secretary-General and Vice Chairman of the UAE's National Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing and Financing of Illegal Organisations Committee, and Vice President of MENAFATF. He also participated in the main panel discussion titled 'Future Trends – Global Challenges and Digital Threats.'The UAE delegation, also attending as an observer to the Eurasian Group, showcased the latest developments in the country's efforts to combat money laundering and terrorist financing, including national initiatives leveraging artificial intelligence and digital innovation to strengthen the UAE's capabilities in tackling financial part of the visit, the UAE Embassy in Moscow hosted a 'Youth Circle' session, where Al Zaabi delivered an awareness presentation to Emirati youth and scholarship students. The session focused on sharing knowledge about the UAE's anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing framework while highlighting promising career opportunities in this vital sector, which is closely tied to financial system integrity and national security. The forum provided a high-level platform for dialogue on evolving regulatory approaches, public-private partnership strategies, and regulatory responses to technological change. It also contributed to enhancing cooperation between the Eurasian Middle East and North Africa regions in combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

With support from Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB), the Ras Al Khaimah Charity Association launched a humanitarian initiative to support families struggling to pay rent arrears due on their rented homes to real estate agents and landlords. The initiative aims to enhance the financial and social stability of insolvent families and alleviate the burden they face in meeting their financial obligations. According to Abdul Aziz Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ras Al Khaimah Charity Association, the initiative targets 97 low-income families at a total cost of Dhs520,000. The association will begin implementing the initiative in the coming days to avoid potential legal action related to rent arrears, which could negatively impact the lives of individuals and families, he said. Al Zaabi explained that the housing support initiative falls within the framework of the association's commitment to assisting needy families and alleviating their financial burdens, thus consolidating family stability for their members. The initiative represents an important qualitative step towards promoting the values of solidarity within the Emirati society in line with the association's vision, mission and objectives, which aim to deepen the concept of charitable work among members of society, he said. The association is continuing to exert efforts to expand the scope of humanitarian initiatives aimed at assisting more needy families in the community, he added. The initiative coincides with the approaching Eid Al Adha to bring joy to the hearts of those with limited income. Meanwhile, Al Zaabi expressed his thanks and appreciation to Dubai Islamic Bank for its continued support of the association's humanitarian projects and initiatives.
