Scotty's behavior in ‘The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On' draws backlash over red flag accusations
Netflix's The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On Season 3 released three new episodes on December 11, 2024, sparking heated discussions among fans. Episode 6, titled Fortune Favors the Bold, featured a tense confrontation between Scotty and Zaina that drew widespread backlash online.
The conflict began when Scotty questioned Zaina about J.R., her former partner on the show. Scotty accused J.R. of spreading rumors about him but refused to disclose his source, describing J.R.'s behavior as 'wild.' Zaina denied hearing anything negative from J.R. and urged Scotty to 'check' his behavior to have a productive, adult conversation. When Zaina asked if Scotty felt 'intimidated' by J.R., Scotty denied it but became visibly defensive. The heated exchange ended with Zaina asserting she had done nothing to deserve his accusations.
The intense confrontation quickly sparked reactions on social media, with fans criticizing Scotty's behavior as controlling and manipulative. One viewer wrote, 'Scotty gives DANGEROUS red flag vibes. The anger, the gaslighting, the lack of accountability—it's terrifying.' Another commented, 'Scotty's reactions show a need for control and therapy. He is so focused on maintaining a 'perfect' image that it's concerning.' Many praised Zaina for maintaining her composure and attempting to steer the conversation toward resolution despite Scotty's aggressive demeanor.
The episode has fueled broader discussions among fans about red flags in relationships and the dynamics showcased in the series. Critics highlighted Scotty's need for self-reflection, with many suggesting therapy could help address his behavior.
This episode underscores The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On's ability to spark emotional reactions and spotlight real-life relationship challenges. All episodes of Season 3, including the controversial Episode 6, are available for streaming on Netflix.

California approves $750m film tax boost
Hollywood's home state of California will more than double annual tax incentives for film and television production to $750 million under a measure passed by the Democratic-led legislature on Friday, Reuters reported. The increase from the current $330 million was approved as part of a broader tax bill that is expected to be signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom in the coming days. Democrat Newsom had advocated for the boost, a step to help reverse a years-long exodus of production from California to places such as Britain, Canada and other US states that offer generous tax credits and rebates. Producers, directors, actors and behind-the-scenes workers have warned lawmakers that Hollywood was at risk of becoming the next Detroit, the automaking capital devastated by overseas competition, if current trends continued. Permitting data showed production in Los Angeles, the location of major studios including Walt Disney and Netflix, fell to the second-lowest level on record in 2024. California has lost more than 17,000 jobs since 2022 from its declining share of the entertainment industry, according to union estimates. Producer Uri Singer said he shot three films in New York to take advantage of its tax incentives. He received a California tax credit to shoot his current project, a horror flick called Corporate Retreat, in Los Angeles. "You can get such good cast and crew that are available that makes shooting in LA financially better," he said. "Besides that, creatively you find here anyone you want, and if you need another crane, within an hour you have a crane." Plus, "the crew is happy because they go home every day," Singer added. Industry supporters also are pushing for federal tax incentives to keep filming in the United States. Republican President Donald Trump has offered a different way to address the issue. Trump said in May that he had authorised government agencies to impose a 100 per cent tariff on films produced overseas. The film tariff has not been implemented.

Cate Blanchett shocks fans with Squid Game season 3 cameo
Cate Blanchett makes a surprise cameo in the final moments of Squid Game Season 3, which was released globally on June 27, 2025. She plays a mysterious recruiter in what appears to be a US based extension of the deadly game. The scene is set in Los Angeles, where Blanchett's character engages in a game of ddakji with a man on the street mirroring the original recruitment method from Season 1. After delivering a slap and handing over the familiar invitation card, she walks away, while the Front Man observes the interaction from a distance. The brief yet impactful appearance has led to immediate speculation about a potential American spin-off of the series. Show creator Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed Blanchett's involvement was kept under wraps and praised her for filming the scene in a single take. He noted her charisma and precision made her an ideal fit for the teaser-style role. Though Netflix has not officially confirmed an American version of Squid Game, industry reports suggest development discussions are underway. Blanchett's cameo is being interpreted by fans and critics as a strategic setup for a global franchise expansion. Season 3 continued Seong Gi-hun's journey and expanded on the international scope of the Squid Game operations. Reviews have been mostly positive, praising the show's sustained tension, thematic complexity, and the unexpected twist in its closing moments. Blanchett's role, brief but symbolically loaded adds a new layer to the series' evolving universe, possibly positioning her as a central figure in future installments beyond South Korea.

Walter Scott, co-founder of the renowned R&B group The Whispers, has passed away at the age of 81. His death was confirmed by family and friends, marking the end of a musical legacy that helped define soul and R&B from the 1960s onward. Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Walter and his twin brother Wallace 'Scotty' Scott relocated to Los Angeles in 1959. The brothers began singing while attending Jordan High School, and in 1964, they formed The Whispers, a group that would become one of R&B's most enduring acts. The Whispers achieved mainstream success in the late 1970s and 1980s with a series of gold and platinum records. Their most celebrated hits include 'And the Beat Goes On,' 'Rock Steady,' 'It's a Love Thing,' 'Lady,' 'Love is Where You Find It,' and 'Love at Its Best.' In a 2017 interview with the L.A. Sentinel, Walter reflected on their breakthrough: 'We knew by 1981, we didn't think of it as made it, we thought of it as the validation from our peers and fans that they liked us.' Scotty added, 'From that point on, up until 1988 everything we recorded was either gold or platinum.' Walter and Scotty remained active performers well into their later years. In 2023, they headlined the Taste of Soul Family Festival, continuing to bring their classic sound to new generations of fans.
