Government owned Oil India Ltd (OIL) has commenced natural gas production from the Bakhri Tibba block , located in the desert belt near the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district.The commencement of natural gas production was announced by Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri.Taking to social media platform 'X', the Union Minister hailed the milestone as a testament to the company's resilience and commitment."This milestone is a shining example of Oil India Ltd's resilience, resolve and responsibility in delivering energy under challenging frontier conditions," Puri posted on Monday.He further said, "I commend the relentless efforts of the Oil India team, who brave extreme situations daily to ensure stable energy flow. Every hydrocarbon molecule produced brings us closer to energy security and self-reliance," he added.Oil India has begun production from the DSF-III (Discovered Small Field) block in Bakhri Tibba. The operation is situated in a remote and arid region, underscoring the scale of the logistical and technical challenges overcome by the team.According to official figures, gas production from the site has already reached a supply rate of 67,200 standard cubic meters per day (SCMD), being delivered to GAIL and the Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (RRVUNL) for downstream utilisation.

‘To boost clean urban mobility': PM Modi flags off 200 e-buses on World Environment Day
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the occasion of World Environment Day on Thursday, flagged off 200 electric buses in Delhi to promote green and clean urban transport, said officials. After inaugurating the bus, the PM stated that the initiative will contribute to building a clean and green Delhi. He further underlined that this step will also improve the 'Ease of Living' for the people of Delhi, according to an official statement from the PM's office. In a post on X, the PM said, 'Building a clean and green Delhi! Flagged off electric buses under an initiative of the Delhi government aimed at boosting sustainable development and clean urban mobility. Additionally, this will also improve 'Ease of Living' for the people of Delhi.' The event was also attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, L-G Vinai Kumar Saxena, and Union Minister of Environment Bhupender Yadav. 'PM plants a sapling under the 'Ek ped Ma ke Naam' initiative as part of the Aravalli Green Wall project, which aims to reforest the 700-km Aravalli range, at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park, New Delhi. PM Modi also flagged off 200 electric buses under the Delhi government's sustainable transport initiative, promoting clean urban mobility and symbolising India's collective responsibility towards sustainable development,' Yadav posted on X. Thanking the PM, the Delhi CM said, 'Your encouragement for Delhi's efforts in promoting electric mobility strengthens our resolve to build a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable capital. Under your guidance, we remain committed to creating a future-ready Delhi that reflects the spirit of Viksit Bharat-where progress and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.' At present, there are 3,266 buses under DTC. Of these, 1,895 are electric buses and 1,371 are CNG buses. With the addition of 200 buses, the electric fleet increases to 2,095 buses. By the end of 2025, the CM added, 2,080 buses will be provided to Delhi, and by 2027, the Delhi government's public transport fleet will be fully electric. She also mentioned that a new EV policy will be implemented soon by the Delhi government.

The new fleet is part of the Delhi government's 'DEVI' initiative, aimed at enhancing last-mile connectivity while curbing air pollution. The launch, held on World Environment Day, was attended by Union environment minister Bhupender Yadav, Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi lieutenant governor VK Saxena, and Delhi environment minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, among others. The 9-metre-long DEVI buses are designed to navigate Delhi's narrow, congested lanes and connect interior neighbourhoods with major arterial roads. Each bus seats 23 passengers (with six seats reserved for women), and has standing space for 13 more. Equipped with GPS tracking, CCTV cameras, panic buttons, voice announcements, and ramps for the differently abled, the buses aim to bring safer and more inclusive transit to underserved parts of the city. Powered by six battery packs with a combined capacity of 196kW, the buses offer a range of over 200 km and can be recharged in just 45 minutes through opportunity charging. On May 2, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta had flagged off around 400 DEVI buses alongside Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan. At the launch event, she had said that the expansion of Delhi's bus fleet with electric buses complements the city's broader effort to reduce vehicular emissions, which account for nearly 45% of its air pollution. She had also reiterated Delhi's plan to shift its entire public transport network to electric by the end of 2025. An official added that the DEVI buses would particularly benefit neighbourhoods that larger buses cannot access, helping make public transport more inclusive and efficient for all.
