Scottie Scheffler breaks down in tears over chat with wife that inspired win

Scottie Scheffler was visibly moved as he recalled a pivotal conversation with his wife that set him on the path to clinching his first Masters title. The top golfer, fresh from celebrating his third major win with a commanding five-shot victory at Quail Hollow, looked back on the pep talk that propelled him to glory in April 2022.
Scheffler, who had ascended to the world number one spot just before heading to Augusta National three years prior, was gearing up to take the lead into the final day of the Masters when the reality hit him that he was on the cusp of securing his first major. He attributed an emotional exchange with his wife, Meredith, as the catalyst for his success and the moment he slipped on the prestigious Green Jacket.
"I remember it was a pretty windy week, and the golf course was playing so tough. Really, my goal was just to hang in there and play well," Scheffler recounted during a chat with Rolex. "I did a good job of that. I went into Sunday with a three-shot lead.
"Going into Sunday morning, it's the final round of the Masters. I wake up, turn on the TV, and start watching the golf. It seemed like all they could talk about was me.
"I think it kind of dawned on me: 'holy smokes, this is a really big deal. I've worked my whole life to have a chance to win the Masters.' I was a bit overwhelmed. I remember crying a lot. Just because I was able to sit there with my wife," he shared, reports the Mirror.
"She's my biggest supporter, she knows me better than anybody. She saw me go from being a fairly anonymous player of the Tour to being number one in the world. Then, to have a chance to win my first major, she kind of reminded me why I go out and play."
Scottie Scheffler, visibly moved, recounted the touching conversation with his wife that still evokes strong emotions. "If I lost that day, she loves me the same, and it's the same for my family," he said.
"I get emotional because I really believe that. At the end of the day, the tournament doesn't define who I am as a person. We have a saviour, He's the guiding light for our lives, and that's really what she told me that morning."
Since his first Masters triumph, Scheffler has scooped up another 16 titles, including prestigious wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Players Championship, Masters again, RBC Heritage, Memorial Tournament, Travelers Championship, and wrapped up the year with the Tour Championship.
Adding the recent PGA Championship to his list, Scheffler talks about the sheer weight of that momentous victory—yet it seems that memories of his initial Masters victory eclipse all, even when a four-putt on the final green narrowed his lead to just three strokes from Rory McIlroy.
Recalling the pressure of the final hole, Scheffler couldn't help but chuckle. "That got me to smile more because it was kind of a funny thing, but at the end of the day, it was pretty awesome," he confessed.
"Meredith was the first one to meet me on the green after.
"It's just the most beautiful setting you can imagine, and my family's there. I'm so grateful for those people and so it was really cool for us to have that moment together."

Ulrika Jonsson shares 'shameful' drunk selfie as she marks huge achievement

Ulrika Jonsson has marked a significant milestone in her life. The former Gladiators presenter has shared her triumph of reaching one year of sobriety, prioritising her continued abstinence from alcohol. The 57 year-old celebrity has previously spoken candidly about her struggles with drinking, recalling episodes where she'd "black out and not recall the night" and have no memory of the night's events. She has also acknowledged that alcohol served as a means of escape, helping to alleviate her anxiety. "I drank to kill my feelings of anxiety and my fears of everything," she had confessed. Now, having successfully stayed away from booze for a year, Ulrika is resolute in her decision and focused on maintaining her sobriety. To commemorate this achievement, she posted a before-and-after photo on her Instagram, showcasing the transformation she's undergone. The first image, labelled "Sober", features a radiant Ulrika posing for a makeup-free selfie in her kitchen, donning oversized glasses. In contrast, the second image, marked "drunk", shows Ulrika posing for a wild selfie in her bathroom after a night out, reports the Mirror. Alongside her post, Ulrika wrote: "Today I'm marking 1yr of sobriety. No fanfare, no medal, no trophy. The journey goes on. A huge thanks to all those beautiful people who have supported me; understood me; scooped me up and handled me tenderly and without judgement; who nudged me in the right direction; who made me laugh and helped me shed the crippling shame." Ulrika's heartfelt message expresses her gratitude to those who have stood by her throughout her journey, offering support and guidance without judgement. "Thank you to my kids for their support; for having faith in me after I must have worried them so. For close friends for their patience and belief. My sobriety will continue to be my priority. Turns out it IS possible to teach old dogs new tricks." Her post, amassing over 7,000 likes, was inundated with accolades. Kerry Katona, the one-time pop sensation now TV personality, wrote: "So bloody proud of you my darling. Miss and love you all the world." Michelle Heaton added her own cheer: "So happy for you darling,". A fan also showed their support with uplifting words: "Well done on the first of many anniversaries of sobriety @ulrikajonssonofficial. You have chosen to be and do better and that is a huge transition and not without its challenges so, all props to you and long may it continue for you to reap the rewards." Another voiced encouragement saying: "Thank you, Ulrika, I'm trying to follow in your footsteps, and posts like this are really affirming. Congratulations on 1 year." While someone else shared their own victory: "Congratulations! I'm at 5 years and 5 months and it's still the best thing I ever did,". Opening up about the moment that sparked change, Ulrika revealed a jolting wake-up call. She detailed: "One Saturday morning my best friend, who I love and cherish, called me and basically told me we had spoken the night before and she hadn't understood a word I had said. "She told me I needed help. I knew it came from a place of love. The sense of shame would have been enough to make me want a drink. But not on that occasion. Instead, I sobbed like a child who desperately needed someone to hold her. I was full of despair."

Rory McIlroy meets his match in young fan wearing green jacket

Rory McIlroy showed his class with a funny message for a young fan at the Canadian Open. The young man was adorned in a green jacket quite similar to the one the Holywood native picked up at this year's Masters tournament in Augusta. The Grand Slam winner, having spotted the attire, walked over to the kid and said "It took me a little longer to get one of those," before having a chat with him. It was somewhat out of step with the recent radio silence he has displayed in previous tournaments, stemming from a leak from his camp over a driver failure. He said: "I was a little p***** off because I knew that Scottie's [Scheffler] driver had failed on Monday, but my name was the one that was leaked. "It was supposed to stay confidential. Two members of the media were the ones that leaked it. "Again, I didn't want to get up there and say something that I regretted, either. I'm trying to protect Scottie - I don't want to mention his name. I'm trying to protect TaylorMade. I'm trying to protect the USGA, PGA of America, myself. "I just didn't want to get up there and say something that I regretted at the time. With Scottie's stuff, that's not my information to share. "I knew that that had happened, but that's not on me to share that, and I felt that process is supposed to be kept confidential, and it wasn't for whatever reason. That's why I was pretty annoyed at that." The Canadian Open is largely seen as a warm-up for next week's US Open, with many players looking to dial in their game for the third major of the season. McIlroy will be hoping to reclaim his 2019 and 2022 titles at TPC Toronto to lead him into the US Open in good stead, and if the three-year cycle continues, the omens are good for him. He tees off at 12:40PM Irish time in the first round on Thursday.

Rory McIlroy snubbed by Donald Trump ahead of Canadian Open

Rory McIlroy was overlooked by US President Donald Trump who praised Bryson DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler as the current cream of the crop in the golfing world. An avid golfer himself, Trump hit the links with US Open champ DeChambeau at his course in Washington, D. C. Although DeChambeau's bids at the Masters and PGA Championship fell short, he still holds the World No. 10 position. He triumphed recently at LIV South Korea, marking his first win since his victory over McIlroy at last year's US Open, which also represented his third title on the controversial Saudi-backed LIV Golf series. In the wake of their round of golf in the nation's capital last Sunday, Trump was all compliments for DeChambeau. Trump enthused: "He is a great guy, a great golfer. Probably the No. 1 now, him and Scottie [Scheffler] are rated at the top. We play golf a lot together. It is not a very pleasant experience for me. I always consider myself a reasonably long hitter. Then I play with him. I go home and my wife says, 'Are you as long as Bryson?' I said, 'Yeah, I am pretty close'. It is not close.", reports Belfast Live. Curiously, Trump didn't mention McIlroy when talking about top golfers, even though the Northern Irishman achieved the prestigious career Grand Slam with his Masters victory in April. McIlroy came out ahead of DeChambeau during their rounds at Augusta. The five-time major winner experienced a sweet comeback, having been pipped to the post by DeChambeau at the previous year's US Open. The LIV golfer is gearing up to defend his crown this month as the season's third major swings back to Oakmont. While Trump's allegiance may be up in the air, it's widely believed that DeChambeau is the frontrunner for his support. Their camaraderie dates back to DeChambeau's appearance on stage after Trump clinched his second presidential term. DeChambeau has even featured Trump on his YouTube channel for a round of golf, amassing 15 million views since its premiere last July. Speaking to the Times earlier this year, DeChambeau shared: "I've known him for more than eight years and we've developed a friendship." He elaborated on their rapport, saying, "It's been fun to get to know who he truly is rather than what people think and see of him. That's what we were trying to do when we had him on 'Break 50'." The golfer emphasised the non-political nature of Trump's appearance, stating, "We didn't make it political, we made it about golf and entertainment and raised a quarter of a million for charity. I try to keep space, but if he wants to play golf, we'll play golf. He's good with people he trusts."
