Modi calls for human-centric AI approach, cooperation on critical minerals
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called for close cooperation on minerals in the age of AI, saying that no country should use them for its own interests. He also said that the intensive energy demands of AI can only be met through renewable sources.
'Ensuring affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy is a top priority for India. To achieve this, we are focusing on solar energy and small modular reactors. We are also developing smart grids, energy storage systems, and green energy corridors to connect renewable energy production with demand centers,' he said.
He said: 'We must adopt a human-centric approach. Everyone recognises the potential of AI. However, the real challenge is… ensuring that AI tools enhance human dignity and empowerment.'
'First, we must work towards governance at an international level that addresses concerns related to AI while promoting innovation. Second, in the age of AI, close cooperation in the areas of critical minerals and technology is extremely important. We must focus on securing and strengthening the resilience of their supply chains. We must also ensure that no country uses them solely for its own interests or as a weapon,' he said.

At G7, PM Modi slams double standards on terror, says Pahalgam was 'attack on all humanity'
Prime Minister Narendra Modi NEW DELHI: PM Modi strongly raised the issue of terrorism in his G7 outreach session address, describing the Pahalgam attack as an assault on all humanity and slamming double standards in the fight against terror. Without naming Pakistan, he said India's neighbourhood had become a breeding ground for terrorism. Modi raised several questions about the international approach to terrorism, saying that while sanctions were being imposed based on personal preferences, nations that openly supported terrorism continued to be rewarded. "Are we truly serious about addressing terrorism? Will we understand the true meaning of terrorism only when it knocks on our own doors? Can those who spread terror and those who suffer from it be weighed on the same scale? Are our global institutions at risk of losing their credibility?" he asked, while also talking about the impact of ongoing conflicts on the Global South. The PM said turning a blind eye towards terrorism for the sake of vested interests, or extending support to terror or terrorists, was a betrayal of all humanity. If we don't take decisive action today against this terrorism that stands against humanity, history will never forgive us," the PM said. Modi also said the terrorist attack that took place on April 22 was not just an assault on Pahalgam but a direct attack on the soul, identity and dignity of every Indian. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like She Found THIS Chat on Her Husband's Phone and Vanished Overnight medalmerit Learn More Undo It was an assault on all humanity, he said. "Terrorism is the enemy of humanity. It stands in opposition to all nations that uphold democratic values. Unity in fight against terrorism is imperative. Unfortunately, our own neighbourhood has become a breeding ground for terrorism. For the sake of global peace, our thinking and our policies must be extremely clear - any country that supports terrorism must be held accountable and made to pay the price," the PM said. Modi also said the countries of the Global South were having to bear the maximum impact of uncertainty and conflicts. No matter where the tension was in the world, he said, these countries were the first to be affected by food, fuel, fertiliser and financial crises. "India considers it its responsibility to bring the priorities and concerns of the Global South to the world stage. We believe as long as double standards persist in any form, sustainable and inclusive development of humanity shall remain out of reach," Modi said.

PM Modi concludes visit to Croatia after meeting top leadership
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (June 18, 2025) concluded his visit to Croatia, where he held talks with the Balkan nation's top leadership on a range of issues to boost bilateral ties. Mr. Modi, who is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Croatia, was here on the last leg of his three-nation tour. "PM @narendramodi emplanes for New Delhi after concluding three-nation tour to Cyprus, Canada and Croatia," the PMO posted on X. The Prime Minister arrived in Zagreb earlier in the day and was received by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković at the airport. Mr. Modi held delegation-level talks with Plenković and met President Zoran Milanovic to discuss a range of issues to boost bilateral ties. Mr. Modi said he and his Croatian counterpart have decided to give a "three-time" pace to the bilateral ties and said a plan would be made to boost defence cooperation between the two countries. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri were present during the talks. The two nations also signed four memoranda of cooperation in the areas of agriculture, culture, and science. Another memorandum was signed between the ICCR and the University of Zagreb, related to the study of Indology. He reached Croatia from Canada, where he attended the G7 summit and held talks with several world leaders. In his address at the Summit, the Prime Minister told the leaders of the seven-nation bloc that India's neighbourhood has become a breeding ground for terrorism and turning a blind eye towards the challenge would be a "betrayal of humanity". He also sought action against Pakistan for its support of cross-border terrorist activities. He had earlier visited Cyprus as part of the tour, where he held wide-ranging talks with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides. During his visit, Modi and Christodoulides also viewed from atop a building the mountains near Nicosia, which are under Turkish control, signalling a message to Turkiye, which had openly supported Pakistan during the recent conflict with India. Mr. Modi's visit to Cyprus assumed significance in the wake of the island nation's strained ties with Turkiye. This was his first foreign visit after India carried out Operation Sindoor in May during which it destroyed terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir in retaliation to the Pahalgam attack. During his visit, Mr. Modi was conferred with the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III of Cyprus, the country's highest civilian honour.
