Netflix's Best New Movie Has Near-Perfect Critic And Audience Scores
The Wild Robot
It can be tough to know what to watch on Netflix in a given day or night, but the service has licensed one of the best movies I've seen in recent years, kid-focused or otherwise. While children may have been its target audience, it's a movie that all ages can enjoy.
That would be The Wild Robot, the 2024 Dreamworks film about a lost robot that bonds with forest animals and ultimately becomes their guardian against encroaching technology. Here's the synopsis:
The Wild Robot has stunning scores from both critics and audiences. With 253 reviews in, The Wild Robot has a 96% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and with 5,000+ audience reviews, an even higher 98%. On IMDB it has an 8.2/10, which in the context of that site, is extremely high, and a full quarter of its reviews are 10/10. Having seen the film myself, I think it very much lives up to these high scores.
The Wild Robot
It's a kids movie, but it isn't. It's one of those situations where a movie aimed at children can be so good that parents and kids alike will enjoy watching it together as opposed to the adults just sitting around flipping through their phones while it's on.
For me, the best part of The Wild Robot is its absolutely gorgeous animation, where I've really never seen anything quite like it. The story is good, sure, perhaps a tiny bit cliché, but there is no frame of this film that isn't fantastic to look at.
It's an easy recommendation for all ages, and family statuses. If you don't have kids or aren't watching it with any, it doesn't matter, as it's worth checking out for anyone. There are likely going to be two more films in the series adapting two more books that the first one was based on, but we do not have much information about those as of yet.

Showtime has released the first proper trailer for Dexter: Resurrection , and it sees the return of Michael C. Hall's Dexter Morgan, and he is ready to keep killing. Production on Dexter: Resurrection , from showrunner and executive producer Clyde Phillips, kicked off in January in New York, where shooting continues. The series also stars Uma Thurman as Charley, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara, Kadia Saraf as Detective Claudette Wallace, Dominic Fumusa as Detective Melvin Oliva, Emilia Suárez as Elsa Rivera, with James Remar as Dexter's father, Harry Morgan, and Peter Dinklage as Leon Prater. Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter, Eric Stonestreet, and David Dastmalchian will guest star as Lowell, Mia, Al, and Gareth, respectively. New Blood's David Magidoff will return to the role of Teddy Reed from the Iron Lake Police Department. It was also confirmed that John Lithgow and Jimmy Smits would also return to the universe as The Trinity Killer, Arthur Mitchell, and Miguel Prado, respectively. The series will debut on July 11th with two episodes via streaming and on demand for Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers before its on-air debut Sunday, July 13 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. KNIVES OUT: WAKE UP DEADMAN Teaser Trailer Reveals New Mystery and Release Date — GeekTyrant
Netflix dropped the first official sneak peek for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery during its Tudum 2025 presentation, and it teases a new mystery and revealed the movie will arrive on December 12, 2025. This will be the third entry in Rian Johnson's modern whodunit series, following 2019's Knives Out and 2022's Glass Onion . Both were critical and audience hits, with Daniel Craig's flamboyant Southern sleuth quickly becoming a fan favorite. The new film comes as the final installment in Johnson's two-film deal with Netflix, but it may not be the last time we see Blanc, depending on how things contune to go with the franchise. The cast for Wake Up Dead Man is, as usual, loaded with talent and Craig is joined this time by Jeremy Renner, Josh O'Connor, Kailee Spaeny, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Andrew Scott, Glenn Close, Kerry Washington, Daryl McCormack, Annie Hamilton, Kerry Frances, and Thomas Haden Church. As for what the story entails, Netflix is still keeping that part under wraps. But Johnson's comments from a previously interview offer a clue about just how different this one might be from what's come before. 'As long as Daniel [Craig] still wants to keep doing it and as long as we have an idea that, to us, feels not just like cranking another one out, but feels genuinely exciting and scary like, 'Oh, wow, could we pull that off?' 'I love the genre. It's endlessly malleable, and so it holds endless possibilities. But at the same time, I have made three of them in a row. I don't feel burnt out on it at all, but the next thing I have in my head to write is an original that's not a mystery at all. It's a totally different genre. 'One of the things I love about the mystery genre is that it holds the whodunit. Like sci-fi, it encompasses so many other types of genres. Wake Up Dead Man, this next movie, is so different than Glass Onion. It's like night and day. And so, as long as we keep doing that, it's exciting.' Each one of these films reshuffles the deck, takes big swings, and that's what mades these movies so fun. So while Wake Up Dead Man might be the end of the Netflix contract, it doesn't feel like the end of the road. If Craig's still having fun and Johnson keeps finding ways to twist the genre, Benoit Blanc's southern drawl may echo for a while longer. Wake Up Dead Man premieres on Netflix December 12, 2025.
