Buses on roadsides choke traffic, panel set to identify terminals for them now
Noida: No designated terminals or parking space for private intercity or tourist buses leave traffic in sectors 37, 62, Botanical Garden and Pari Chowk in a bind every day.To check the menace, district-level committees will now be able to identify spots and construct parking lots for stage, contract and tourist buses under a new policy, Stage Carriage Bus Stand, Contract Carriage and All India Tourist Bus Park (Establishment and Regulation) Policy, 2025, rolled out by the state govt recently.
At present, only UPSRTC has bus stations for its fleet, with one each in Noida and Greater Noida. But the 5,000 private buses, including nearly 1,900 school buses, operate without access to proper stands. Consequently, many are found parked along roads or sector lanes, choking traffic.A terminal developed by Noida Authority in Sector 82 in 2021 for private buses—spending Rs 157.9 crore—has remained largely unused due to few takers.Under the new policy, a district-level committee headed by the DM will be set up to oversee the establishment of both govt and privately run bus stands. The committee will include the police commissioner, senior police officers, sub-divisional magistrates, circle officers, and assistant regional transport officers. It will regulate all aspects of setting up, operating, and maintaining bus stands and parks in line with the transport department's directives.Officials aim to attract private investment in bus parking infrastructure through this project. Interested parties must have a minimum of two acres of land with road access at least 7m wide, and a minimum of two years' experience in managing similar operations.The facility's layout must have 70% open space and 30% covered space, and accommodate passenger amenities such as waiting areas, washrooms, drinking water, canteens, public address systems, CCTV surveillance, as well as inquiry counters.

IndiGo passenger loses Rs 2.65 lakh deal after missing flight over boarding confusion
For a branding and social media consultant, an ordinary work trip turned into a costly ordeal after he missed an IndiGo flight from Jaipur to Mumbai and a high-stakes client meeting worth Rs 2.65 lakh along with a post on LinkedIn, Garg recounted his experience that has gone viral, with social media users criticising IndiGo's handling of the arrived at the Jaipur airport at 4:40am, cleared security by 5:10am, and was told boarding for his flight would begin shortly. With the gate area packed, he stepped away for a restroom break. When he returned just 12 minutes later, he was shocked to learn that boarding had already closed with no announcements made. 'I was literally surprised as the boarding was supposed to start not end. And the executive just said we're running 7-9 minutes behind. Over the top, there was no announcements made, and while I bought this up they clearly said that Jaipur is a Silent Airport,' Garg said in his infuriated him all the more was the lack of boarding announcements for the Mumbai flight - even though he had heard one just moments earlier for an IndiGo flight to I pointed that out, the staff denied it straight to my face. I pleaded with folded hands. I explained the urgency. I begged. Still, I was deboarded. No alternate option. No help with the next flight. No refund. No empathy. The result? We lost the client. Rs 2.65 lakh down the drain. A month's effort gone in seconds,' Garg Garg said in his post that, 'Through it all, not once did anyone at the airport say, 'Let's see what we can do.' This isn't about one missed flight. It's about accountability. It's about humanity.''The least we expect is a fair and transparent process or even just a little kindness. But today, I walked out of that airport feeling powerless, angry and sad to see the travel industry and the Indian landscape. We talk so much about customer experience and service excellence but when it's truly needed, no one shows up,' he concluded.
