Sean ‘Diddy' Combs' lawyer delivers closing arguments at sex-trafficking trial
A lawyer representing Sean 'Diddy' Combs began delivering the defense's closing arguments on Friday morning in the music mogul's federal sex-trafficking and racketeering conspiracy trial, marking the final chapter in a case that has drawn global attention over the last seven weeks.
Marc Agnifilo, a defense attorney, is expected to push back against the government's allegations that Combs coerced women into participating in drug-fueled sex marathons with male sex workers and that he ran a criminal enterprise that engaged in crimes such as sex trafficking, drug distribution, kidnapping, forced labor, arson and bribery.
Combs, who was arrested in September, faces one count of racketeering conspiracy, two counts of sex trafficking and two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
If convicted on all counts, Combs could face up to life in prison.
Throughout the seven-week trial, Combs's legal team has acknowledged past incidents of domestic violence, but has maintained that all sexual activity was consensual and part of what it described as a 'swingers lifestyle'. The defense has also denied that any criminal conspiracy existed.
The defense has sought to portray two women at the heart of the case, singer Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura and a woman testifying under the pseudonym 'Jane', as willing and consenting participants in the sex parties, which were often referred to as 'freak-offs'.
Agnifilo is expected to take roughly four hours to make the defense's closing argument on Friday. Afterward, prosecutors will deliver a one-hour rebuttal before the case goes to the 12-member jury to decide Combs's fate.
The government presented its own closing argument on Thursday, with Christy Slavik spending nearly five hours outlining the government's case against the music mogul.
The US attorney described Combs as 'the leader of a criminal enterprise' who refused to 'take no for an answer' and as someone who wielded 'power, violence and fear to get what he wanted'.
'The defendant was a very powerful man,' she said. 'But he became more powerful and more dangerous because of the support of his inner circle and his businesses – the enterprise.'
Slavik walked the jury through the weeks of testimony and evidence the government presented over the course of seven weeks.
'Up until today, the defendant was able to get away with these crimes because of his money, his power, his influence,' she said. 'That stops now. It's time to hold him accountable. It's time for justice. It's time to find the defendant guilty.'
Jurors also heard for the first time on Thursday about allegations that Combs engaged in witness tampering and obstruction – part of the broader racketeering charge – with regards to 'Jane' and another woman, who testified under the pseudonym 'Mia'.
Several members of Combs's family were in attendance in court on Thursday.

Super Bowl halftime performer charged for running on field with 'Sudan and Free Gaza' flag
A Super Bowl halftime show performer was charged Thursday with two misdemeanors, about 4 1/2 months after he ran across the field at the Superdome waving a flag that included the words ' Sudan and Free Gaza,' Louisiana State Police said. Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, 41, turned himself in to authorities to face of charges resisting a police officer and disturbing the peace by interrupting a lawful assembly, police said. He surrendered in coordination with his attorney and was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center. Nantambu revealed the flag and ran on the field during rapper Kendrick Lamar 's halftime performance on Feb. 9. He was detained on the field after his demonstration but not charged. The NFL said at the time he would be banned for life from league stadiums and events. According to a statement from police, Nantambu had been hired as an extra performer and 'had permission to be on the field during the performance, but did not have permission to demonstrate as he did.' NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy thanked investigators for their work. 'We take any attempt to disrupt any part of an NFL game, including the halftime show, very seriously and are pleased this individual will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,' McCarthy said in a statement. ___

Diddy lawyer mocks prosecution over baby oil evidence
Lawyers for Sean 'Diddy' Combs have mocked the prosecution for presenting bottles of baby oil as evidence that he engaged in sex trafficking during their closing arguments at his New York trial. The music mogul's legal team claimed the prosecution 'badly exaggerated' evidence of Combs's swinger lifestyle combined with his recreational drug use in order to confect a racketeering conspiracy charge that could put him behind bars for life. Marc Agnifilo, defending, derided the prosecutors who seized hundreds of bottles of Astroglide lubricant and baby oil from Combs's property, telling the Manhattan court: 'Way to go, fellas.' 'He [Combs] did not do the things he's charged with. He didn't do racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking,' he said as he began a presentation expected to last several hours. Combs, a three-time Grammy winner, is accused of using his fame to create an empire of exploitation, coercing women into abusive sex parties while silencing victims through blackmail and violence, including kidnapping, arson and beatings. Combs has pleaded not guilty on all charges. Cassie Ventura, R&B singer and Combs's ex-girlfriend, was the prosecution's primary witness, and told the court she was forced to take part in 'hundreds' of drug-fuelled orgies with male escorts that could last as long as four days. She also accused him of rape. Mr Agnifilo called Combs's prosecution a 'fake trial' and ridiculed the notion that he engaged in racketeering. 'Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me?' Mr Agnifilo asked. 'Did any witness get on that witness stand and say, 'yes, I was part of a racketeering enterprise – I engaged in racketeering?'' Mr Agnifilo told jurors that those accusations were a figment of the prosecution's imagination. Referring to lawsuits filed by Combs's accusers, he said: 'This isn't about crime. It's about money. This is about money.' Mr Agnifilo noted that Ventura, who was Combs's girlfriend of nearly 11 years – sued him and settled for $20 in November 2023, triggering a federal investigation the following day. 'If you had to pick a winner in this whole thing, it's hard not to pick Cassie,' Mr Agnifilo said. If convicted, Combs could face a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison and a maximum of life. He did not testify during the trial that is in its seventh week. After Mr Agnifilo completes his closing, assistant US attorney Maurene Comey is expected to deliver a rebuttal summation before the judge reads the law to the jury. Deliberations are not expected to begin until Monday.
