Vauxhall has announced its next generation of 'GSE' performance cars will be fully electric. And it has announced it by suggesting these new battery-electric performance cars will give drivers 'the proverbial OMG feeling'. Indeed.
TopGear.com is not aware of any adult with the capacity to spend upwards of £670 a month – or £42k+ - on a new performance Vauxhall who uses 'OMG' in regular parlance, but please let us know if you do.

In any case, these new cars promise more dynamism, braking and cornering performance across the board. 'This demonstrates how powerful, exciting, and inspiring battery-electric mobility can be,' said Vauxhall/Opel chief Florian Huettl.
We do not know exactly how much power they will generate, but likely more than this current generation – 222bhp in the Astras, and 296bhp in the Grandland. They'll also offer 'a chassis set-up that directly integrates the driver and offers exciting driving pleasure'.
Going battery-electric means binning off the current generation of plug-in hybrid GSE models first launched back in 2022, as seen in the Astra, Astra Sports Tourer (estate), and old Grandland.
In those cars, GSE – which stands for 'Grand Sport Electric' – meant a 1.6-litre four-pot petrol matched up to a small battery and electric motor, along with a bespoke chassis tune to record… mixed results. Not mixed enough to warrant an OMG, mind. More as we get it.

BCP launches British pound stablecoin
BCP Technologies has launched the first British pound-backed stablecoin from an FCA-registered crypto issuer. 0 BCP's tokenised GBP (tGBP) is backed 1:1 by reserves held in a segregated account at a UK-regulated financial institution and is fully redeemable for sterling at any time. BCP says the stablecoin is now live after more than a year-long review process, including a month in the FCA's regulatory sandbox. As the stablecoin market heats up, the firm is hoping to take advantage of the fact that GBP options have so far been limited, typically issued by offshore entities with low liquidity. It says that tGBP uses the reliability of UK financial infrastructure for the minting and redeeming process and has the flexibility and speed of blockchain technology. Benoit Marzouk, CEO, BCP Technologies, says: "tGBP supports a broad range of use cases: GBP self-custody for retail and corporates to bring an alternative from banks (and their inherent fractional reserve risk), cross-border payments, institutional collateral management, a GBP option for DeFi lending protocols and a GBP on-chain access for bitcoin-backed loans. "It might also be used in the future as the main GBP rail for settling tokenised assets like bonds, securities, or real estate."

June 4 (Reuters) - Tesla's (TSLA.O), opens new tab new car sales in Britain tumbled more than 45% from a year earlier in May, preliminary data from research group New AutoMotive showed on Wednesday. The automaker, which has been losing market share in part because of CEO Elon Musk's embrace of far-right politics in Europe, sold 1,758 units in Britain last month, down from 3,244 a year earlier, the data showed. Yet, Tesla remained the best-selling battery electric vehicle in Britain so far this year. Overall new car registrations in the UK increased 4.3% to 144,098 units in May, according to New AutoMotive, with BEV sales rising 28% year-on-year. Among Chinese rivals, BYD ( opens new tab more than doubled its new car sales in the UK to 1,388 units during the month.

Shoppers gobsmacked after bizarre Land Rover smash leaves one motor mounted on top of another
YOU can't park there madam! Supermarket shoppers are gobsmacked after a car park prang left one motor mounted on top of another. The smash is said to have happened when a woman in a Land Rover reversed into another car, flipping it over and hitting a silver VW Beetle. 4 4 Others pointed out it looked like a modern sculpture. Former Army aircraft technician David Bowden posted pictures on social media, adding: 'It's all happening in Falmouth Sainsbury's. 'It is amazing, like a bit of modern art, or a collapsed game of Jenga.' Mark Carveth joked: 'The winner of the 2025 Turner prize is a sculpture from Falmouth.' Dawn Chittock said: 'Would make a great Specsavers advert.' The incident happened at a Sainsbury's supermarket in Falmouth, Cornwall, on Saturday. A tannoy went out in the store asking for the driver of the blue car to attend the car park - where they were in for a shock. The vehicles were all recovered and no one was hurt. Two people were in one of the vehicles at the time of the crash, but both got out of the vehicle uninjured. Cops said the drivers swapped insurance details at the scene. A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "We were called to Sainsbury's, Falmouth, car park at around 1.30pm on Saturday 31 May following a report of a three vehicle collision. "Only one vehicle had occupants but both got out of the car uninjured. All vehicles were recovered and insurance details swapped." A Sainsbury's spokesperson said: "Emergency services attended an incident in the car park of our Falmouth store on Saturday afternoon. A small section of the car park was closed for a couple of hours and we're sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused." 4 4
