High time to hold AIMIM, Owaisis accountable: BJP leader
Hyderabad: Telangana state BJP Vice-President and former MLA NVSS Prabhakar today warned MIM corporators, stating that it is time to hold their party leadership, including Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, accountable for neglecting the welfare of poor Muslims for their own political gains.
Addressing the media on Monday, Prabhakar alleged that the AIMIM party has been controlled by one family for the past 50 years. He pointed out that Asaduddin Owaisi, along with his brother, father, and grandfather, has held positions as corporators, MLAs, and MPs. At the same time, local vendors—such as those selling vegetables, onions, and fruits—remain in the same struggling position despite the MIM party ruling the old city of Hyderabad for five decades. He emphasised that the poor Muslim community has suffered due to MIM's politics, evidenced by a significant increase in illiteracy rates and youth unemployment, despite the party's claims of working for the welfare of the Muslim community.
He urged MIM corporators to open their eyes and teach a lesson to the Owaisi family in the local elections for MLC, highlighting a tacit understanding between Congress, BRS, and MIM. Prabhakar asserted that the Owaisi family has consistently benefited from the support of the ruling parties in the state, whether Congress or BRS, by providing outside support. Prabhakar also launched a sharp attack on AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi for orchestrating protests against the recent Waqf Board Amendment Act before its implementation.
He accused Muslim leaders of organizing protests while having usurped Waqf land. Quoting reports, he stated that out of 75,538 acres of Waqf land in Telangana, 70 per cent is either under dispute or encroached upon by influential Muslims. Prabhakar claimed that Owaisi is exploiting the situation to target the Modi government for political gain. He strongly refuted Owaisi's allegations that Muslims are facing discrimination under the Modi government, asserting that the Muslim community is safer and better protected today, with benefits from various welfare schemes implemented by the central government.

State forms committee to look into demand for farm loan waiver
With local body polls set to be held within three to four months, the Maharashtra government has announced setting up of a committee to look into the demands of farm loan waiver. The move comes after former independent MLA Bachchu Kadu threatened to intensify his ongoing fast from June 16 by deciding to drop water intake. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Saturday wrote to Kadu informing him the same. 'A high-level committee will be set up on the issue of farm loan waiver within 15 days. A decision on the farm loan waiver will be taken based on the report. And a decision on staying the loan recovery from a defaulter and providing new loan will be taken by holding a special meeting,' said the letter, which was submitted to Kadu by Industries Minister Uday Samant. Kadu has been on fast for the past seven days in Amravati district demanding farm loan waiver, scholarship for their children, monthly honorarium of Rs 6,000 for disabled persons etc. All political parties had extended support to Kadu's agitation with NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar calling him. A state-wide roadblock agitation was planned on June 15 as Kadu had announced to give up water from Monday. Bawankule on Friday had met Kadu and dialled CM Devendra Fadnavis from the protest site. The revenue minister had said that the decision on farm loan waiver will be taken in consultation with the cabinet. The letter mentioned that a decision on budgetary provision for honorarium for Divyang people will be taken in the upcoming monsoon session of the legislature and other demands will be addressed by holding a meeting of chief minister and ministers concerned. Earlier in the day, workers of Kadu created ruckus at the programme of Deputy CM Ajit Pawar demanding farm loan waiver. Pawar informed them that a decision has been taken to form a committee on all the demands raised by Kadu. As the protesters continued sloganeering, police used force and removed them from the auditorium. Meanwhile, opposition Congress slammed the state government over the decision to announce a committee on farm loan waiver. 'Why was no committee mentioned when Mahayuti promised farm loan waiver in its campaign during Assembly elections? The government has no intent to extend the waiver but wants to merely survive the day. The Rs 2,100 promised under Ladki Bahin scheme have not yet been given. This government is misleading people,' said state Congress chief Harshavardhan Sapkal. Senior Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat questioned the need to form a committee. 'The government has lakhs of crore to construct highways but has no money for farm loan waiver. The government in the past has used this trick of forming committee to sideline the issue,' said Thorat.

Days after communal tensions, 38 arrested in overnight crackdown across Assam's Dhubri
Thirty-eight people were arrested in an overnight crackdown in Western Assam's Dhubri town after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's visit there on Friday, days after communal tensions gripped the town in the days following Eid-al Adha. After communal tensions had gripped the town on June 8 and 9 following the discovery of suspected cattle remains from a temple in the town, a total of 22 people had been arrested. According to district police, a total of five FIRs had been registered in connection with three different matters related to the developments in the town — the alleged slaughter of a cow and leaving the remains in the temple, rioting in the town, and the spread of misinformation and rumours. The charges in these FIRs include sections of the Assam Cattle Preservation Act and provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to defiling a place of worship, acts intended to outrage religious feelings, criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt and promoting enmity between different groups. However, following the Chief Minister's visit, 38 more people were arrested by the district police, this time from various locations across the district. 'We are still investigating and making arrests in connection with the incidents that took place earlier, but there is also a crackdown on criminal elements across the districts, which is an ongoing operation,' said Additional SP Dhubri Dipjyoti Talukdar. During his visit to Dhubri Friday, Sarma had said that police have been ordered to arrest 'all criminals in Dhubri' including people with non-bailable warrants against them and a criminal history. He had also stated that he would issue night-time 'shoot at sight orders' against law-and-order disruptors in the town. However, the Additional SP Saturday declined to comment on whether formal orders to that effect have been received by the district police. Another major move the state government made after his visit was a shuffle in police officials by bringing in APS officer Leena Doley – who had been posted in Hailakandi – as SSP Dhubri. While Dhubri is a Muslim-majority district located along the state's border with Bangladesh, the town itself has a mixed population. Dhubri Municipal Board Chairman and BJP leader Debamoy Sanyal said that matters in the town had been calming down after the flare-up Sunday and Monday. 'Everything started when a cow head was found in the Hanuman mandir in ward 3 of the town Sunday. That day, we went there, and so the police, district administration, and local Muslims and leaders as well, and we all had discussions till late in the evening and calmed down sentiments. But the next day, again some remains were found in the same campus despite police presence and that really instigated people,' he said. The town had witnessed clashes, including stone pelting, and the district administration had Monday imposed prohibitory orders ordering the closure of shops and markets, and prohibiting the assembly of more than five people and assemblies and rallies. However, these orders were withdrawn Tuesday afternoon, with DC Dibakar Nath saying that the situation had come back under control. However, there were still some reports of groups pelting stones at each other at night the next night. 'The people have been cooperative and peace committees have been having discussions. Everything is okay, except some instances of stone pelting at night. Despite its mixed population and instances of communal tensions in the past, these have never carried on for more than one or two days. This time it escalated, and the effect of developments in Bangladesh cannot be ruled out. Now there are lots of police forces and it will take some time for everything to get settled,' he said. During his visit, Sarma had connected the tensions in the town to 'external forces' and a communal group working to cause unrest in the town. The local MLA, Nazrul Hoque, from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) alleged that the chief minister's stern directives were disproportionate to the situation on the ground. 'I have condemned the CM saying that shoot-at-sight orders will be issued in the town because things have not come to that. Things in the town are peaceful now. What is required is a proper investigation into what exactly happened and identifying the exact culprits who have been creating unrest in the town. So far all the people arrested have been Muslims, even though stone pelting has happened from both sides,' he said. In the meantime, Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi said that the Congress supports stern measures, including shoot-at-sight orders to deal with communal forces. However, he pointed towards alleged 'agent provocateurs' within the BJP, accusing CM Sarma of 'circulating a two-religion theory' in Assam. 'In Assam, after Himanta Biswa Sarma joined the BJP, he has been spreading communal statements and actions and has been doing politics to divide the state… So now these incidents happen, during Durga Puja, during Eid, somewhere or the other, there will be some incident with cow meat or something else to keep the communal pot boiling,' he said in a press conference on Saturday. He further said: 'There have also been instances in states with BJP governments that when people have been caught in connection with such cases, they have been found to be connected to some organisation or branch connected with the BJP. Because of these things, we can't help but have doubts. That's why we appeal that since they have the police and all the central government's intelligence agencies, they should identify these communal forces and punish them accordingly'.

BCs should be united and fight collectively for their rights: Mahesh Goud
Hyderabad Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud launched a book titled 'OBC Porubata' in the city on Saturday, and gave a clarion call for unity among Backward Classes (BCs), urging them to rise above political affiliations and fight collectively for their rights. Mr. Goud said that the time has come for BCs to assert their strength and move beyond party lines to secure what is rightfully theirs. He hailed the Congress-led Telangana government for conducting a caste-based survey, calling it a landmark step towards inclusive governance. 'Rahul Gandhi's vision of social justice is the foundation of this effort,' he noted. Mr. Goud also credited the Congress party for pressuring the Centre to finally announce a caste census alongside the general census. 'What was once opposed by the BJP is now being adopted and this is a major ideological victory for the Congress,' he said. He said that the caste survey conducted under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was scientific, transparent, and inclusive. 'Despite being from the Open Category, Mr. Revanth Reddy has followed the Kamareddy Declaration in both spirit and action,' he said, referring to the 42% reservation now granted to BCs in education, employment, and political arena. He said that the Congress party's Cabinet expansion and TPCC restructuring marked a historic first with 68% positions given to BCs, SCs, STs, and minorities. 'This is transformation,' he asserted. The event was also attended by Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender, and BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan, who expressed support for a national BC platform to advance the cause.
