Police nab 5 suspected CIT robbers after crash near Sundra
Five suspected cash-in-transit (CIT) robbers were apprehended yesterday afternoon in Sundra – a settlement on the border of Mpumalanga – following a police chase.
According to Ridge Times, the suspects allegedly targeted a CIT vehicle in Bronkhorstspruit before fleeing along the R42 towards Delmas and then onto the N12 highway heading towards Johannesburg.
Their getaway vehicle overturned near the R50 off-ramp to Bapsfontein and Sundra, prompting the suspects to flee on foot through nearby maize fields.
A police helicopter was also used to trace the suspects.

While unconfirmed reports suggest gunfire may have been exchanged, police have not yet officially commented. A heavy police presence was observed at all three locations involved.
Police have also not yet confirmed how much money was stolen.

Sardine run: 25 KZN beaches currently closed for swimming
With the 2025 sardine run already underway, the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board (KZNSB) revealed that they have removed shark safety nets from the waters at 25 beaches along the south coast. The Sharks Board said that that melee of predators accompanying the sardine shoals was problematic, not just to the sardines but also to the Board itself. 'The shark nets that provide bather protection along the beaches take a heavy toll of sharks and dolphins if they are not lifted before the arrival of the Sardine Run,' it said, as per Business Tech. The eThekwini Municipality also announced on Monday, 2 June, that the public was now prohibited from swimming on KwaZulu-Natal's south coast beaches, due to the shark nets being removed. Businessman shot and killed in Hazyview
The Hazyview police in Mpumalanga are in search of a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a businessman at Sand River Trust on Wednesday. According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the SAPS responded to reports of a shooting at a popular eatery in the area. Lowvelder reports that when SAPS arrived, they found the victim, Eddie Khoza, lying motionless on the ground and covered with a blanket. 'Police investigations have indicated that a man entered the premises posing as a customer. The suspect suddenly drew a firearm and shot the victim at point-blank range. The victim is said to have attempted to get help but collapsed in the street and was further shot by his assailant, who then fled the scene on foot. Emergency medical services later declared him dead at the scene,' Ndubane says. She says multiple shell casings were recovered at the scene. The police are appealing to the public for assistance in locating the suspect. Anyone with information that could aid the investigation is urged to contact Detective Captain Eddie Raphakgadi on 082 449 0231.
