A former managing director of a Scottish whisky company wished his wife dead because he did not like his birthday present, a court has heard.
Christopher Leggat allegedly told his wife Cara 'I hope you die in your sleep' because of the 'childish and ridiculous' TikTok water bottle she had gifted him.
Glasgow Sheriff Court heard how he lost his temper because he was disappointed at a perceived lack of effort to mark his birthday in January 2023.
He later apologised for the remark and claimed it was 'a bit of banter', his wife told the court.
The incident was one of several outlined at the court, where Leggatt, 44, is accused of verbal and physical abuse towards his 42-year-old former wife.
He faces a string of allegations which include slapping her while walking home from an Old Firm game and pushing her into a kitchen cabinet at their home in the Pollokshields area of the city.
He is also claimed to have kept tabs on her location by using an electronic device and placing her under a curfew.
Leggat is the ex-managing director of his wife's family company Douglas Laing & Co, based in Hillington, Glasgow.
Mrs Leggat, who has taken over the role, told the court that he tried to stop her from seeing family.
The couple were married in 2013 and worked together at the firm where Mrs Leggat's father Fred Laing is chairman.
Leggat pleaded not guilty to engaging in a course of behaviour which was abusive to his partner or ex-partner between September 2022 and November 2024.
The pair were given hospitality tickets to Hampden Park in February 2023 for an Old Firm League Cup Final clash.
Cara stated that when they walked home after the match and she was pushed into a bush by Leggat.
She told the court that a notification appeared on her phone in March 2024 regarding an Apple AirTag tracking device.
The witness stated that Leggat told her at the time that he had 'no knowledge of it'.
She also accused Leggat of 'discouraging' her from seeing her parents which also included a curfew which made her 'twitch' when it was close.
Cara claimed that the last occasion Leggat became violent towards her was in November 2024 at the family home.
She said he slapped her on the forehead and pushed her into a kitchen cabinet which resulted in a thigh injury.
Cara told the court that she called her father and the police were called.
Prosecutor Siobhan Currie asked Cara why she did not contact the police on an earlier occasion.
She replied: 'I knew he wanted to stay in the Scottish whisky industry.
'From my knowledge he would find it hard to get into the USA and Singapore which are key places in the industry.
'I didn't want the man not to get an international job.'
Leggat, now of Bearsden, Dunbartonshire, told the court in his evidence that he left the company in 2023 with Cara taking over his role.
He stated that he did not complain about his birthday plans and refuted allegations that he told Cara that he wanted her to die.
He also denied slapping her after the Old Firm game but accepted that he may have caught her on the chin or chest while expressing himself in conversation.
He said: 'She did not fall into a bush - we were walking beside a bush.'
Leggat further stated that Cara was aware of AirTags as they had discussed the devices with her.
He claimed that Cara 'prodded' him ten times before her father arrived at their home in November 2024.
He stated that he did not grab his wife and push her against the kitchen cabinet.

Aussie woman is verbally assaulted by a stranger at a Westfield who threatened to fight her and made a 'disgusting' racist remark

An Aussie woman who wears a hijab has revealed she was the victim of a terrifying racist incident. Zeeba Horoni, from Sydney, was verbally abused and followed by a woman while heading out for dinner with her sister and a male friend in Parramatta, in the city's west, on June 1. The retail assistant explained she had returned to Sydney earlier that day after visiting family in Melbourne with her sister. Her sister's friend picked them up from the airport around 7pm and they drove to Paramatta for dinner at a noodle house at a Westfield shopping centre. The racist incident took place when Ms Horoni was walking with her sister while their friend was slightly ahead. She said a woman, believed to be in her late 20s, was 'talking really loudly about the hijab', but Ms Horoni at first believed she was speaking with a friend. 'She was saying, "You don't have to wear the hijab when you go out, it makes you oppressed, you look so much better without it", and I thought that was a weird thing to say to a friend,' she said in a TikTok. Ms Horoni said she then realised the woman was talking to her. 'She was in front of me on the escalator and I said, "Sorry, did you say something to me?" And she was swearing under her breath,' she said. The retail assistant admitted she was 'scared and shocked' by the encounter. When she reunited with her sister and friend at the bottom of the escalator, she turned to them in Arabic and said: 'This girl is trying to fight me'. The woman appeared to understand Ms Horoni and turned to her and said 'Do you want to fight?', before ordering her to put down her bags and fight. Ms Horoni said she did not want a physical altercation at which point the woman turned to the sister's friend and made a 'disgusting' remark. 'She asked him, "Do you want to gangbang me because all your Muslim brothers want to gangbang me?"' Ms Horoni said. The woman turned her attention back to Ms Horoni, telling her she needed a nose job before following the group and 'being aggressive'. 'What did I do to you? I was minding my own business and you're attacking me,' Ms Horoni told the woman before threatening to call the police. The Sydneysider revealed the woman said to her 'you ruined everyone else's hijab with your hijab'. 'My theory is she's an ex-Muslim or maybe she has trauma from the religion and she's taking it out on someone that's a visible Muslim,' she said. Ms Horoni said the incident was 'really scary' and thought Parramatta 'would be the last place this would happen' because it's a multicultural area. She advised hijab-wearing women to be careful especially if they're travelling on their own.

Vile Scots dentist snared by paedo hunters caught enjoying luxury Costa getaway before sentencing

A DENTIST who bombarded a girl of 13 with sexual messages is enjoying golfing holidays to Spain while awaiting sentencing, we can reveal. Steven MacMillan, 53, was tracked down by paedophile hunters after he had sexual conversations with the child on social media. 5 5 5 5 The beast admitted his sickening crimes, which included him urging the teenager to perform a sex act, despite the youngster revealing her age beforehand. MacMillan appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court earlier this month, where he pleaded guilty to communicating indecently with the girl between February and March 2023. But there were no bail restrictions placed on him travelling, which means the paedophile dentist has been brazenly jetting out to the sunny Costa Blanca where he has been golfing, relaxing and socialising, despite being on the sex offenders register. A source told The Scottish Sun: 'Locals are up in arms at the fact that he's been so brazen in coming over and cockily carrying on as though nothing has happened. 'He's been the talk of the community ever since the initial sting. We can't believe he's been allowed to come out here and mix freely with kids in bars and swimming pools. 'While others' lives have been shattered thanks to his depraved actions, MacMillan appears to be brazenly sticking two fingers up to the Scottish legal system. 'It's winding people up the way he's swanning round without a care in the world. It really is disgraceful.' It is understood he has been banned from visiting the communal pool in the laid-back expat community where his mum and dad stay. But last week, shameless MacMillan, of Dalkeith, Midlothian, was spotted enjoying a round of golf at the luxury Campoamor Resort in Orihuela Costa where his name was listed as a tournament player. He was also seen loitering topless on his balcony before smiling and chatting with his buddies on the sun-drenched fairways. Disgraced paedo lawyer rubs shoulders with MPs at key legal meeting - after being exposed as sick pervert It is also understood that the sicko has been learning Spanish and has plans to move to the country in the future. But MacMillan faces potentially being jailed when he returns to Scotland for sentencing. The court previously heard MacMillan and the girl, of Newcastle, chatted before she sent him an image of herself performing a sex act. He then began sending her a string of sickening voice notes. In one message, MacMillan told her: 'When daddy asks you to do something you better do it or there will be trouble.' The disturbing messages were discovered by the child's horrified mother. Members of a vigilante group then confronted him at his former home in Strathaven, Lanarkshire, and cops were alerted. After pleading guilty he was put on the sex offenders register and bailed. He has been suspended from working in dentistry by regulators since March 2023. MacMillan will be sentenced next month.
