2025 NBA Draft Combine winners: Raynaud, Lendeborg and Byrd
These 2025 NBA draft prospects are the biggest winners from the NBA Draft Combine
There appears to be very little mystery this year at the top of the 2025 NBA draft. The assumption is Duke's Cooper Flagg will be the No. 1 selection, even if the Dallas Mavericks were to make another shocking trade and deal the pick they won in last week's NBA draft lottery. Artificial intelligence has picked up on that sense of certainty ahead of next month's event at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
While AI predictions for some prospects vary from the most influential NBA mock drafts, the projection for Flagg aligned with conventional thinking when USA TODAY Sports asked Microsoft Copilot to run a simulation of the 2025 NBA draft first round based on team needs, player rankings and draft order. The prospects selected after him, however, is where the AI and draft experts began to diverge
The simulation, for instance, was a little higher on Maryland's Derik Queen than most mock drafts and a little lower on Oklahoma guard Jeremiah Fears. It had Georgia's Asa Newell, Saint Joseph's Rasheer Fleming and Israeli guard Ben Saraf as top-20 picks when most don't and predicted others expecting to go in the first round to slide. It appears, at the very least, to be a better representation than earlier attempts to get AI predictions for this year's NBA draft. Maybe the NBA draft combine helped clear things up (and led to more published mock drafts).
Here's a breakdown of the 2025 NBA draft first-round picks made by Microsoft Copilot AI, as well as how to watch next month when the league's teams gather in Brooklyn to make their selections:

Lakers' Stance on Potentially Trading Luka Doncic Revealed by NBA Analyst

Lakers' Stance on Potentially Trading Luka Doncic Revealed by NBA Analyst originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Dallas Mavericks shocked the sports world in February when they traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. Advertisement The blockbuster trade came out of nowhere, as no one knew Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison no longer wanted to build around Doncic, the 26-year-old superstar who has already made five All-NBA First Teams. Doncic averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists with the Lakers in the regular season after the Mavericks traded him. The future Hall of Famer then put up 30.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game in the 2025 playoffs. However, despite having Doncic and NBA legend LeBron James, the Lakers lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of this year's playoffs in five games. Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic (77) looks on during a Johnson-Imagn Images Los Angeles may need to make some trades this offseason to become a true title contender. However, don't expect Doncic to be traded, writes Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report. Advertisement "In Doncic, the Lakers have a bridge to their post-James era. He'll be the superstar cornerstone upon which the franchise's next decade is built," Hughes wrote. "The only way that'll change is if Harrison's justification for moving Doncic this past February — poor conditioning and shoddy defense — reaches a point where Los Angeles winds up with the same concerns. "Of course, if you view the trade from Dallas to L.A. as a wake-up call for Doncic, it's pretty hard to imagine his bad habits continuing." Los Angeles can sign Doncic to a four-year, $229 million contract starting on Aug. 2. Doncic will make $46 million next season. He has a player option worth $48.9 million for the 2026-27 season. Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka told local reporters during his end-of-season press conference that he's looking forward to building around Doncic for the foreseeable future. Advertisement "It's incredibly exciting to have the promise of him in our next decade of Laker basketball with being able to build a team around him and him being at the center of our franchise," Pelinka said. "Our partnership with him has been incredible. We're appreciative and grateful and can't wait to get to the work, really starting today, of getting ready for next year." Michigan State basketball star Jase Richardson partners with Chipotle

Michigan State basketball star Jase Richardson partners with Chipotle Former Michigan State basketball star Jase Richardson has partnered with a big-time restaurant chain. Richardson posted on Tuesday that he has "Ready for the next step with" Chipotle. The post included "#ChipotlePartner" which would suggest Richardson has signed some type of advertising or marketing deal with the well-known and popular burritos, tacos and bowls chain restaurant. Check out the post from Richardson below: Richardson is moving on to the NBA after a stellar true freshman season at Michigan State this past year. He averaged over 12.1 points per game and shot above 40% from three-point range, which has landed him as a fringe lottery pick in the NBA Draft later this month. Richardson was a fan favorite during his lone season at Michigan State, and I'm sure this deal will only help boost that for those who also enjoy Chipotle. If anything, it'll at least put a little extra dough in Richardson's pockets and I'm sure result in some free burritos as well. LeBron James Most Likely To Reject Player Option And Sign 2-Year, $105 Million Deal With Lakers

After a series loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, the entire basketball world has been waiting for an update on the future of LeBron James' career. The entire Western Conference hinges on his decision, but it won't come easily for the 21x All-Star. At 40 years old, most players would have already walked away by now, but the latest intel suggests that he plans to stick around this summer and renegotiate a short two-way contract worth $105 million. "He holds a $52.6 million player option for next season, and there could be some interest in simply picking it up. If he made clear this would be his last go-round, the Lakers could celebrate his every step on a season-long farewell tour, which would conveniently include an L.A.-based All-Star Game," wrote Bleacher Report's Zach Buckley. Maybe he's not interested in putting that much finality to it, though. Not with his son, Bryce James, potentially becoming draft-eligible in 2026. LeBron lasting long enough to team up with Bronny James is incredible, but suiting up alongside both of his sons would certainly hold some appeal. Look for James to give himself a bit of wiggle room, then, by declining his option and re-signing with the Lakers on a two-year, roughly $105 million deal with a player option on the second season." Advertisement LeBron has achieved an unprecedented level of longevity in the NBA. For the past 22 years, he's been consistently dominating the league with averages of 27.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game on 50.6% shooting. After making history with his son, Bronny, this past season, James has already achieved his highest ambitions, and he's got nothing left to prove at any level of play. For years, James has been hinting about his potential retirement, and fans have been bracing for the inevitable moment when LeBron finally walks away. For now, however, LeBron is still active in the NBA, and it's looking increasingly likely that he has not yet played his final season. With a $52.6 million player option for the 2025-26 campaign, James will most likely opt out and become a free agent so he can re-sign a new, two-year deal that will extend into 2027. This way, LeBron can keep control over his NBA future while not losing a dime of his hard-earned money. Most importantly, James can aspire to play with Bryce James, the youngest of his sons. The young baller will be eligible for the NBA Draft in 2026, and the Lakers can try to set it up so that he joins his brother and dad in Los Angeles. All he has to do is pick a college and put in the work so that he earns his spot, just like Bronny did on his way to the Lakers. Advertisement It would be a historic moment for the league and an amazing achievement for LeBron, who has been around long enough to be teammates with his sons in the NBA. If the Lakers can also win a championship in the process, it would be the ultimate send-off to a historic NBA career. Related: Lakers Unlikely To Re-Sign Two Players In 2025 Free Agency
