Meet 2025 Remarkable Woman Winner Patt Gunn

Yahoo01-04-2025

SAVANNAH, Ga (WSAV) — WSAV is excited to announce Patt Gunn as our 2025 Remarkable Women Winner.
From the music of her Gullah Geechee heritage to her educational talks, to her dancing at the Tybee Wade Ins, to her Underground Tours of Savannah, for Patt Gunn it's all about being a positive force for making societal changes.
One of the most noted examples of that was all her hard work to change the name of a Savannah Square from an outspoken advocate of slavery, John. C. Calhoun, to someone who was born into slavery, Susie King Taylor.
'Say her name, Susie King Taylor, an enslaved young girl who came here at the age of seven and her grandmother was already here,' Gunn said. 'They befriended the abolitionist community who taught her how to read, write and count. She goes out and joins the Civil War and becomes the first African American nurse on the Union side in America. She learned how to read, write and count in the middle of anti-literacy laws. I think she's a shero. I think she's a better person than John C. Calhoun.'
On Feb. 10, 2023, the square was officially dedicated to Taylor and Gunn said it warmed her soul to see people from all walks of life, colors, ages and denominations in attendance.
'I said to myself, this is what Savannah looks like,' Gunn said.
For Gunn, she said it's not about finger pointing. It's about healing the pains of the past caused by slavery and segregation. She herself is a descendant of a freed slave.
'But I refuse to walk in anger. I have to walk in peace and love. And so, we got to heal, and I want to leave a legacy of telling people here are the tools to heal. And here's the best example, Taylor Square. Let's begin here' Gunn said.
To many in the Savannah area, Patt is affectionately known as 'Sistah Patt' to which she said, 'Makes me feel honored and beloved. You know, I look at everyone I meet, not as a stranger. And if I can befriend you, you become my sister friend or my brother friend. And I'm just so honored. I want everyone to know we're really just one village. We really are.'
Patt's mission to have Susie King Taylor's name and legacy honored is not over yet. She is currently working to have a statue of her erected in the center of Taylor Square.
WSAV would also like to thank finalists, Angela Brantley, Alicia Johnson, Courtney Hampson and Maggie Smith. You can read their stories by clicking on their names or clicking here.
WSAV and the station's parent company, Nexstar, celebrate Women's History Month each March by honoring 'Remarkable Women' both in the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry as well as across the country.
The nationwide initiative, which started in 2019, honors the impact women have had on public policy, social progress, and quality of life in all 116 markets where Nexstar owns and operates television stations.
Based on nominations with universally selected criteria including community contributions, self-achievement, and family impact, each market selects five local women for consideration as that market's 'Remarkable Woman.' Each market's 'Remarkable Woman' receives a $1,000 contribution on their behalf to a non-profit of their choice.

DCU's James Gunn Says 'Wonder Woman' Is ‘Being Written Right Now'

Almost exactly one month ahead of the release of the highly anticipated Superman movie, DCU is continuing to make moves. DC Universe's co-CEO, James Gunn, revealed that a new Wonder Woman movie is on the horizon, something fans have been calling for often in recent months. While the news left the bulk of fans overjoyed and only added more intrigue behind Superman's release, Gunn also provided some additional information on the Wonder Woman news. From the sound of it, DCU and Gunn have been in the process of prepping for a new Wonder Woman film for some time, as the ball is already rolling, which Screen Rant revealed. According to Gunn, the script-writing process for Wonder Woman is already underway. "We're working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman's being written right now," Gunn stated. The big news on DCU's next high-profile release comes at a good time as Superman continues to build hype before its July 11 release. The last time fans saw Wonder Woman was over a three-movie stretch with Gal Gadot in the starring role. Her debut as the superhero came in the 2016 film Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, roughly one year before Gadot's Wonder Woman movie hit theaters in June 2017. Gadot reprised the role once more, appearing in Justice League, which was released in November 2017. Fans will now anxiously await news on casting for the future film and a potential timeline for Wonder Woman's James Gunn Says 'Wonder Woman' Is 'Being Written Right Now' first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 10, 2025

Robert Pattinson's 'Batman 2' Gets New Update Drawing Conflicting Fan Reactions

It's been more than three years since Robert Pattinson's The Batman hit theaters, and fans continue to wait for the next big step forward toward the sequel. The film, which Matt Reeves directed, premiered in March 2022, and the follow-up movie is still expected to be made. However, the timeline remains a question mark. Roughly one month before the release of the new Superman movie, DCU's co-CEO, James Gunn, sat down with Entertainment Weekly and provided a few significant updates. While the news of an upcoming Wonder Woman film was the most noteworthy takeaway from the June 10 interview, Gunn did address the state of The Batman Part II. Gunn stated that Pattinson "is still there" for Reeves' movie; however, his update on where things stand with the film led to a major split regarding how fans reacted. "What Matt's doing is still really important, despite all stories to the contrary," Gunn comments. "We're supposed to see that script shortly, and I can't wait." The comments show that some fans remain incredibly excited about the sequel. They also prove that many others are becoming frustrated with the lack of true updates and the slow process to get the ball rolling on The Batman Part II. "I love Robert Pattinson as Batman, and Matt Reeves is doing that world justice… let him cook," wrote one fan. "Loved the first one hope this one moves along soon," added another. "Oh wow Batman and the new Superman can't wait to see their stories clash," replied another fan. Mixed in with the positive responses were questions from others about the delay in the script, as well as frustration about any realistic timeline for the movie's release."Once they start shooting it's a minimum 2 years before it releases so we ain't seeing that till 2030," read one comment. 'Wasn't the script supposed to be sent like weeks ago?" added another fan with a crying emoji. 'How have they not received the script yet???? What are they doing?" read a frustrated response. "Every week they're about to see the script," replied a fan. Although Gunn has remained adamant that The Batman Part II is coming, even Pattinson jokingly mentioned the lengthy delay when Naomi Ackie asked if he'd play Batman again during an interview with Hero Magazine in May. "I f***ing hope so," Pattinson said with a laugh. "I started out as young Batman and I'm going to be f***ing old Batman by the sequel." Gunn has given a fair amount of updates on the project, even if he doesn't have much new information. Here's to hoping that the next tidbit he provides about The Batman Part II includes news on casting or a potential timeline for the movie's Pattinson's 'Batman 2' Gets New Update Drawing Conflicting Fan Reactions first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 10, 2025
