
Beyond Retro expands to US via ThredUp partnership
Vintage retailer Beyond Retro is bringing its offering to the US for the first time. The London-based clothing store chain has partnered with American resale platform ThredUp to roll out a collection in the region.
With this, ThredUp has launched 17,000 vintage and vintage-inspired pieces curated in collaboration with Beyond Retro on its site, many exhibited via stylistic edits.
The new partnership continues Beyond Retro's ongoing expansion into new areas of business. On the back of launching its own wholesale channel in 2016, the retailer has more recently set out on increasingly prominent levels of collaboration with leading industry players.
This has largely involved Beyond Retro working with the likes of Seasalt Cornwall and Coach on the creation of clothing and accessories that utilise pre-loved and upcycled textiles.
With ThredUp, however, Beyond Retro is bringing its own selection of British vintage to US audiences in what a press release describes as a 'fresh angle on sustainable fashion and the global influence of London street style'.
Among the pieces featured in the initial drop are that of dresses in timeless silhouettes, naturally faded denim and supple leather items.

How to wear white denim and not look naff, from £45
In this era of guilt-inducing consumption, it's good to find desirable items with proven longevity. White jeans, for instance. Liz Hurley was on to something all those years ago – although she was ridiculed because of her dedication to the white skinny denim cause. What's changed in the 30-plus-year interim to make them a bona fide classic? Not the fabrications, that's for sure. So how did they make the mighty journey from sartorially dodgy to Alexa Chung? When people say nothing changes in fashion, they're not digging deep enough. Sure, you could wear certain items from any decade in the past six or seven, and make them work. But they may operate in different ways, their connotations and subtext might be different. White handbags were once a quaint peccadillo of Princess Margaret. White shoes, especially in winter, were Bet Lynch territory. But then Kim Kardashian started appropriating some of Bet's looks and Made in Chelsea types borrowed from Kim and everyone got very confused about what is and isn't naff. There are quite a few white staples that were once no-go areas, like white nail varnish. Not everything white goes in the same positive direction, however. Ultra-white teeth were the preserve of clueless, rich Hollywood types. Not good. They still are but now they reek of one-colour-fits-all chain-store dentistry. Not any better. Where it all went right for white denim, I think, is with Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. Where Hurley and co's white denim dressing looked a bit effortful (always with heels, big hair and carefully applied make-up), CBK's was outdoorsy, carefree, effortless, peak Nantucket. If you feel the cold horribly, like me, white jeans mean you can carry on wearing jumpers, blazers, cropped tweed jackets and still give off vaguely summery vibes. You can wear all your favourite classics – monochromatic stripes, tan accessories (white with white is too much), button-down shirts – and provided your denim is reasonably loose and slouchy, especially on the legs, none of it will look old. But if you want to make things a little more interesting, try adding some tufty texture on top, or a fringe-trimmed bag; thread a scarf through the belt loops; throw on a cropped or lightweight khaki trench à la Chung, or some asymmetric or long shirting, finishing off with velvet Venetian slippers (in case you were thinking of splurging £1,100 on The Row's, may I suggest the real thing, from Piedaterre, in many colours, for around £120). As for the actual denim: there is so much good stuff, from barrel legs at DL1961, which use 100 times less water than the average in their production, to M&S's version (only available in store at the moment because of their computer flame-out). Wear your white denims for the next decade at least and keep them white by soaking them overnight in water and white vinegar, and the next time they need repairing, investigate the art of sashiko (Japanese darning). Liverpool's hopeful deadline to seal Florian Wirtz deal after making third bid
Liverpool believe they can wrap up a deal for Florian Wirtz sooner rather than later after submitting a third bid to Bayer Leverkusen for the German playmaker - who will cost a British record fee Liverpool hope to complete a deal for Florian Wirtz within days despite submitting another offer that is below Bayer Leverkusen 's valuation of the playmaker. This is the third bid made by the Premier League side. It is their highest yet with the package coming in at £113million - £100m of which is up front before the extras are paid as add ons. However the Bundesliga club have maintained they want £126m before they consider letting Wirtz seek pastures new. Despite the disparity between the two figures Sporting director Richard Hughes, who is leading negotiations, is hopeful a deal can be reached in the coming days. The first part of this summer's transfer window closes on June 10 before opening back up shortly after. The 22-year-old star has made it clear to his club that he wants to move to Anfield after Manchester City opted out of the race for his signature. Bayern Munich were also keen but they've been usurped in the pecking order by the Premier League champions. Personal terms won't be an issue once a fee is agreed and the player is waiting for the green light to head to Liverpool for a medical next week after Germany face France in the Nations League third-place play-off on Sunday. Liverpool have already negotiated with Leverkusen once this summer, signing Jeremie Frimpong. The Dutchman has moved to Anfield as Trent Alexander-Arnold's replacement but his £30m switch was made easier by a release clause in his contract. Wirtz has no such clause and that has led to the back and forth between the two clubs. Liverpool will have to break the British transfer record if they do want to sign the playmaker, who is regarded as a generational talent with the Reds confident he can have an instant impact. club chief Fernando Carro previously said they "would never let Wirtz leave" for less than their valuation. Arne Slot endured a quiet summer when he first arrived at Anfield, working with the squad he inherited from Jurgen Klopp. But after landing the title he's wasted no time in pursuing new recruits as the Reds look to build on this year's success. Germany legend Rudi Voller - who left his role as sporting director of Bayer Leverkusen in 2022 after 17 years - has given insight into the discussions and claimed that the German club would make Liverpool wait on a deal, despite their hopes to wrap it up soon. "It's no secret that he'd like to go to Liverpool. I know the clubs are negotiating with each other. It's often the case that it takes a while until an agreement is finally reached. Of course, in the end, you have the feeling it will go through. Florian Wirtz has proven that he is a very, very valuable player. Not only for Bayer Leverkusen but also for the national team. That's why he costs a few euros more." As well as Frimpong and Wirtz Liverpool are also looking to complete a deal for Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez. The Hungarian impressed for the the Cherries and is one of several players who could earn move elsewhere. He is valued at £40m.

Monterey Jack's is set to make a significant return to the country's largest city after losing its central Glasgow location. The new venue is expected to open this month. Signage has already appeared in the St Enoch Centre, indicating a new location is on its way. Large branding has been installed in the shopping precinct's newest food court, accompanied by a "coming soon" sign that reads: "It's happening." The sign also states: "Award-winning, 100 per cent fresh, prime beef burgers. Succulent chicken, gourmet dawgs, delicious fresh shakes and desserts, and a bucket load of sides. You lucky things!" The firm confirmed via its Facebook page that the site is set to open in June 2025 though the exact opening date remains unclear. The Sun tries Wetherspoons' new menu Fans of the chain have taken to the comments to share their excitement about its return. One wrote: "Love MJ's! This will be great when we're shopping in Glasgow!" Another commented: "As centre staff myself, I actually can't wait to try Monterey Jack's UK – never tried it before!" A third added: "I loved the one in Merchant Square. "Such a shame it closed, like most places in there recently. "Looking forward to it opening."
