Former Kruger National Park ranger and accomplice nabbed for illegal hunting
Two men, a former South African National Parks (SANParks) corporal ranger and a known crime offender, appeared in the Masoyi Periodical Court in Mpumalanga yesterday on charges of hunting and trespassing.
Mpumalanga News reports that the case was postponed to Thursday for a formal bail application.
Alfred Khosa (59) and Kenneth Ntimane (37) were arrested in Skukuza on Sunday.
According to provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the arrests were made after field rangers discovered the tracks of four people, and initiated a search in Block 19 in the Skukuza area of the Kruger National Park.
Ndubane says the rangers pursued the suspects and apprehended two, but the other two escaped.
The arrested suspects were found in possession of an impala head, a dead warthog and seven snares. Ndubane says they failed to produce a valid hunting permit.
'The former ranger had previously worked in the park. He was dismissed in 2021 for conspiracy to commit a crime, which is a matter still being heard in the Skukuza Regional Court. At the time of his arrest, he was found wearing a Kruger ranger's uniform,' she says.
The police have, however, not ruled out the possibility of adding further charges.

KZN murder accused found dead in police van after court appearance
Eduan Terblanche (53), who is accused of murdering his partner Stacey van Heerden (49) at a Mooi River hotel on May 28, was found dead inside a police van yesterday. According to The Witness, Terblanche was being transported from the Mooi River Magistrate's Court to holding cells in Pietermaritzburg yesterday, shortly after his bail application was postponed. Terblanche appeared in court yesterday using a crutch and wrapped in a blanket. He was facing charges of murder and defeating or obstructing the course of justice after his partner, Van Heerden, was found dead at the Gleneagles Hotel. According to the charge sheet, Van Heerden was killed, allegedly by Terblanche who then reportedly set fire to the hotel room while she was still inside. Man jumps to his death from rooftop of popular Cape Town hotel
Capetonians were left reeling on Monday afternoon following a tragic incident at Hotel Sky, where a man died after jumping from the rooftop. Western Cape police have launched a full investigation, with crime scene experts and Cape Town Central SAPS detectives currently gathering evidence.
