There are countries in the world that you visit and not lament. These are mostly countries where life is so affordable that they don't leave you with a crater-sized hole in your pocket.
Then there are countries that extract the living daylights out of you on a trip, leaving you with memories for a lifetime and a bank balance that stares at you in disbelief when you board the return flight. So, which countries are these and what does 2025 look like on the average daily budget front?

A study by Canadian financial product comparison site HelloSafe has a list of the 15 most expensive countries to visit in 2025, and quite expectedly, some of the Caribbean island countries take the top slots.
Where you spend the most: While Barbados tops the chart with an average daily spend of Canadian dollars (CAD) 471 (or USD 341 or INR 29,112), at number 15 is Qatar, where visitors end up spending an average of 269 CAD (or USD 194.53 or Rs 16,628).
Where you spend the least: On the other end of the spectrum is Laos, the cheapest country to visit in 2025, with an average daily spend of 22 CAD (or USD 15.91 or Rs 1,360). India ranks at number 13 in the list of cheapest countries to visit this year, with an average daily spend of CAD 50 (or USD 36 or Rs 3,091).
What It Means
Point to note is that the average daily spend in a country does not include flights to and from the destination. The data crunched by HelloSafe compares the cost of visiting a country based on broadly four parameters:
accommodation expenses (hotel or Airbnb-type reservation),
food expenses (based on local CPI indices and the cost of catering), and
transport expenses within the country itself (plane, train, bus, other public transport or taxi)
tourist activities on site (sightseeing, visiting places of interest, etc)
Who's On The List Of Most Expensive Countries To Visit In 2025
1. Barbados
Average Daily Budget: Rs 29,119
Barbados, a stunning Caribbean island known for its pristine beaches, vibrant culture, and several historic sites, is bang on top of the list of the most expensive countries to visit in 2025. When in the island nation, expect to spend about Rs 29,000 per day on accommodation, food, and activities.
2. Antigua & Barbuda
Average Daily Budget: Rs 27,388
For Indians, the Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda became a household name when fugitive Indian businessman Mehul Choksi fled from the country to this island a few years ago. However, its ties with Choksi apart, Antigua and Barbuda is actually a surreal island nation that boasts of unspoilt beaches, some of the best luxury resorts in the world, and lush rainforests.

Average Daily Budget: Rs 21,886
While not technically a country, but a collection of about 2,000 small islands in the Northwestern Pacific Ocean, Micronesia is eighth on the list of the most expensive destinations to visit in 2025. Its pristine waters, ancient ruins and a colourful culture are part of the charm of visiting the destination.

AAI Unveils Mega Incentive Plan To Restart International Flights At Port Blair
Last Updated: This new scheme will be in effect for the first three years of international flight operations, a crucial period that often determines long-term sustainability. To promote international flight connectivity, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has approved a mega incentive scheme at 13 airports which includes Veer Savarkar International Airport at Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, an official said here. This scheme will be applicable for first three years of the operations to bridge the viability gap for the initial phase, which is a very crucial phase for the sustainability of operations. Speaking to PTI, Port Blair Airport Director Devender Yadav said, 'As per this scheme for the first year 100 per cent UDF (User Development Fees) which is Rs 709 per departing passenger will be waived off to the airline. For the second year, the incentive will be 85 per cent of UDF and for the third year incentive will be 65 per cent of UDF." Considering the flight load of 180 passengers, the incentive scheme has the potential of savings of Rs 128 lakh per flight for airlines, which is a significant amount to bridge the viability gap, he said. Veer Savarkar International Airport was designated as an international airport on April 1, 2007 and the first scheduled international flight was started on November 16, 2024 by AirAsia from Kuala Lumpur to Port Blair. But due to less passenger load the international operations were not viable for airlines and international flight operations were stopped from April 10, 2025. 'We have learnt a lot of lessons from the previous international flight operations by AirAsia from Kuala Lumpur to Port Blair. Now, we are better prepared for sustainable international flight operations with this incentive scheme and readiness to swing international cargo operations. Tourists lament lack of facilities at Kovai Kurtrallam
Coimbatore: Tourists visiting Kovai Kurtallam waterfalls in the in the Boluvampatti forest range lament that the tourist spot lacks facilities such as toilet and dress changing rooms. Every year, more than three lakh people visit the waterfalls. It recorded footfall of more than 50,000 in the last two months. M Deepa, a homemaker from Race Course in Coimbatore city, often visited Kovai Kurtallam with her family members. She said it was a wonderful place to enjoy nature. However, the waterfalls and the surrounding areas are not maintained. "There are no proper rooms for changing clothes near the waterfalls. Currently, women are using a room without a roof for changing clothes, but it is not safe. During the weekends, more than 3,000 people visit the waterfalls, but no toilet facilities have been created. The forest department should create toilet facilities and rooms for changing clothes immediately," said Deepa. "There is not a single waste bin in and around the waterfalls," she said. We are planning to renovate two treetop houses and two more villas at Chadivayal. The children's play area will be upgraded to the parking lot area. We are going to restore the canopy walk for children in the reserve forest," Jayaraj said. He added that the forest department will create toilet facilities and rooms for changing clothes near the Kovai Kurtallam waterfalls.
