Amsterdam's unique ring road festival sees wedding on the A10

Amsterdam's unique ring road festival sees wedding on the A10

Independent13 hours ago

In an unconventional twist, Zuzanna Lisowska and Yuri Iozzelli exchanged wedding rings on Amsterdam's typically traffic-choked A10 ring road, transforming a bustling highway into a unique wedding venue.
The couple viewed securing a slot on the usually congested route as a good omen for their future together.
The ceremony took place as part of a day-long festival that saw sections of the A10 highway, which encircles the Dutch capital, closed to vehicles. Friends and complete strangers gathered to cheer and applaud as the couple said "I do!"
For Ms Lisowska, the unusual setting was simply "a super fun idea." She added: "Statistics were on our side. There were 400 couples who wanted to do it, so we feel really lucky to have been chosen." Mr Iozzelli quipped that it was "a nice party we didn't have to organize." The unique ceremony offered a memorable start to their married life, turning a symbol of urban congestion into a celebration of love.
Their only regret was not being able to bring their pet rabbit. 'It was too hot,' Lisowska said after exchanging rings with Iozzelli.
The city that is known for partying said that some 600,000 people tried to get access to the ring road festival last month when more than 200,000 free tickets were made available.
Curious city folk, from parents pushing strollers to students and grandparents, stopped to watch the weddings and enjoyed the one-off opportunity to see the road without the usual cacophony of cars.
Among them was communications student Kyra Smit.
'It's really fun because it's a once-in-a-lifetime thing," she said. "It's so fun that you can say to people, wow, I'm married on the rings, so I really like this.'
The day was packed with events from music performances to readings, meetups and a fun run, shortened because of the heat. Organizers even placed a temporary forest of more than 8,000 trees on the blacktop.
The municipality laid on extra water taps and places where revellers could slap on sun block as temperatures soared to 30 degrees Celsius (86F) and upwards on the road surface.
The city's official birthday is Oct. 27, reflecting the first time a variant of its name was used in an official document, and is staging celebratory events in the year leading up to that date. The festival on the ring road is the biggest so far and gave Amsterdam residents a new view of their ring road.
'It's quite strange because normally you drive here and now you're walking, so that's a totally different situation,' said Marjolein de Bruijne, who works close to the A10.

MasterChef star Andy Allen shares baby news with wife Alex - and reveals a secret detail on his wedding band

MasterChef star Andy Allen has revealed plans to have children with his glamorous wife Alex. The Australian cook, 37, told The Daily Telegraph, his wife and family are the most important people in his life. 'My family and my wife [are very important]. I'm hoping one day I'll have a family of my own with Alex, which will be nice,' he said. Andy also revealed a secret detail on his wedding band while discussing one fact no one knows about him. 'People would never know I wear a clip-on wedding ring,' he revealed. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Andy and Alex tied the knot in October 2022. The lovebirds said their vows in front of all their celebrity friends as they got married in a glamorous tent outside the Terrara House. Some guests included Magdalena Roze and husband Darren Robertson, Melissa Leong and former Bachelor alum Cat Henesey-Smith. It comes after Andy recently opened up about his final meeting with Jock Zonfrillo, revealing that he saw the late celebrity chef just a couple of hours before he died. Jock, who was found dead aged 46 in a Melbourne hotel room in 2023, co-judged alongside Andy on hit cooking show MasterChef Australia from 2020 up until his death. In a sit-down interview with 7NEWS Spotlight last month, Andy got candid about the last time he saw his friend, revealing he met Jock for lunch the day before his body was discovered. 'I've got hairs standing up already,' he told Liz Hayes as he looked back on his and Jock's final meal together, a moment he reflects back on a lot. Andy went on to reveal that he had no idea that there was anything amiss during his last meeting with the celebrity chef. 'That's the thing that hurts the most,' he told Liz with tears in his eyes, 'because it was so sudden.' Elsewhere in the heartbreaking interview, Andy recounted the moment he was given the news of Jock's passing by his wife Lauren Zonfrillo. The chef admitted that the grief of losing his close friend hit him 'straight away', a feeling that made him instantly ill. 'As soon as I got off the phone, I ran straight to the bathroom and I vomited everywhere,' he said. Andy also shared how he still grieves his friend daily. 'I always think of him. And I miss him, I miss him so much. It's crazy that that never goes' he said. 'That being reminded of him wherever I go and no matter what I do, it is still as strong as the day that he passed two years ago.'

Inside Georgia Kousoulou and Tommy Mallet's lavish wedding in Majorca as couple say 'I do' with their 'dream' ceremony

Georgia Kousoulou and Tommy Mallet spared no expense for their 'dream' second wedding in sun-drenched Majorca, Spain, on Friday. The couple and their friends shared a first look at their picture-perfect day on Instagram, with Georgia dazzling in a breathtaking white gown and Tommy cutting a stylish figure in a tailored beige suit. They wrote: '20.06.2025. Our Dream wedding finally happened... 'Best day of our lives. Surrounded by so much love. Can not wait to get all of our pictures & videos back to show you how incredible it was.' With sun-soaked backdrops, designer touches and a guest list full of familiar faces, the celebration oozed glamour – and fans won't have to miss out, as the couple teased: '& you'll be able to watch it all.' To top it all off, the big day fell on Georgia's birthday, making the luxurious celebration all the more unforgettable. The couple were joined by their adorable children, Brody, four, and Gigi, just seven months, as they celebrated their big day surrounded by loved ones. TOWIE stars Chloe Ross, Sam Mucklow, and Danielle Armstrong were also among those on the star-studded guest list. Wedding guests including Shelby Tribble took to Instagram to share photographs from the special day as they gave an insight into the party. She shared photos of the extravagant outdoor dinner setup, revealing a sprawling U-shaped table draped in crisp white linens and adorned with an array of pink-hued flowers in varying shades. Adding to the luxury, several chandeliers hung overhead the table, creating a breathtaking canopy of glamour. She also posted a snap of their wedding 'newspaper', which featured a glamorous photo of the couple on the front page. Adding a playful touch, each guest received a 'But Did You Die?' recovery kit - the perfect remedy for any sore heads the morning after the lavish celebrations. The newlyweds certainly pulled out all the stops for the special day and also provided guests with small bottles reading: 'We've tied the knot so take a shot!' Shelby also shared a gorgeous snap of her posing alongside bride Georgia as well as photographs of her posing with her partner Sam Mucklow. She looked as glamorous as ever in a frilled blue dress while Sam looked suave in a sand suit as they soaked up the sun on the big day. Cara De La Hoyde also posted a sweet video of herself and her husband Nathan Massey cuddling up to one another as they celebrated their friends' union. For the day, Cara cut a glamorous figure in a show-stopping yellow sequin gown with a plunging back design, while Nathan looked suave in a grey suit. Taking to Instagram, she penned in a caption: 'The most beautiful day to celebrate the most beautiful couple. ThankYou & for letting us be part of it.' Georgia stressed that the wedding was very much the product of her own imagination and her husband had minimal involvement. She told OK!: 'I ask him for his opinions, but honestly, I don't want him to get involved. It's my thing. I want him to be shocked, like, 'Wow, this is amazing!''. The couple's first official wedding in December 2023 was a much more low-key affair and ended with a humble Chinese takeaway. Georgia told The Sun about the nuptials at the time: 'We came back to mine and had a Chinese. It was unreal. It is so me and Tommy. 'I literally got back, got my PJs on straight away and we had a Chinese. 'The best bit about it was that we hired tables. So we had a top table…And we all just stuffed our faces with Chinese … it was actually brilliant. So good.' Ahead of her second wedding, Georgia enjoyed a wild, fun-filled hen party in Ibiza at Wayne Lineker's O Club. The star poked fun at the end of her single days by having her and her girlfriends dress in black. The star was joined by longtime pals including Amber Dowding and Lydia Bright as they got into the partying spirit at the celebrity hotspot. The happy couple's romance first blossomed in 2014 when Tommy became a TOWIE cast member. Georgia and Tommy met a few months before filming TOWIE at the gym, with Tommy experiencing an instant attraction to his now wife. After going from strength to strength over the next six years, they revealed they were expecting their first child in December 2020. Tommy wrote at the time that his life felt 'complete' and they went on to welcome a son, Brody Fordham, in May 2021. Then, in 2022, Tommy finally popped the question in Mexico, preparing a lavish beach surprise with rose petals and candles. The couple, who famously enjoyed an early date at a pie and mash shop, announced that they were engaged in February of that year before making it official the following December. Their family then grew to four when they welcomed their second child, a baby girl, Gigi Fordham, in November 2024. Gigi's birth came after they bravely opened up about experiencing a miscarriage and undergoing IVF as they attempted to grow their family.

EXCLUSIVE Inside Australia's most alternative wedding as the bride carries DUTCH CARROTS as a bouquet down the aisle

Fashion designer Niamh Galea and her new husband Maximiliano Dal Masetto aren't your average Sydney couple. The Ramp Tramp Tramp Stamp designer, 29, and fashion photographer, 35, wanted every little detail of their 'Catholic mermaid' wedding to be unique. Nimah, who first met Maxi on set of an RTSS shoot, was certain she would walk down the aisle of the Saint Francis Catholic church in Paddington - where she was baptised - in a portion of her grandmother's 1959 Mark Foy wedding gown. She was sure she would carry a vibrant bouquet of Dutch carrots sourced from an artisan florist as she tied the knot in front of 70 guests. The designer was also certain she would drive to her Nielsen Park beach house reception in the couple's lovingly hand decorated white Holden Ute. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Bride Nimah crafted her wedding dress using the original trains and waistband from her grandmother's gown, which was made for her by a colleague at Sydney department store Mark Foy's in 1959 The rest was planned in a 'haphazard' fashion in 15 months, with the lovebirds determined to wed over the Easter long weekend. Lisa Cooper came onboard as the wedding florist. 'She has a fine art background and is on the cusp of florist and artist,' Niamh told Daily Mail Australia. 'I love everything she does and asked if she would do something more experimental.' Niamh's favourite snack is a Dutch carrot, so when she saw a photograph of a carrot bouquet, she asked Lisa if that would work. To her surprise, Lisa said, 'Let's go full carrot'. 'There was a drama where the bridesmaids' Ubers got delayed and I was carrying them for 45 minutes. They were really heavy so I didn't throw the bouquet,' she said. The yellow ribbon was selected to match handmade broaches for the groomsmen, referencing the Sun of May in the centre of the Argentinian flag for Maxi's heritage. When Maxi proposed, Niamh said she wanted to get married right away and would have happily eloped. 'But we both have big Irish and Argentinian families who are emotional and intense. That would not have gone down well. They would not talk to us again,' she joked. However she did admit that planning the wedding was 'definitely stressful.' 'I thought I was too cool to be stressed about a wedding, but I'm not apparently.' However, Niamh didn't want it to feel like a day at the office. 'A friend said to me, "You know Niamh, for a lot of people, this is the fashion show of their life. This is their moment to produce a big event. But it's not a fashion show." 'It's a party and being with people you love. That's what it's all about,' Niamh said. 'The best piece of advice I would give engaged couples is: The DIY things and handcrafted elements that your family and friends are involved in making end up being the most special.' With that ethos at the heart of the day, Niamh set about designing herself two wedding dresses. 'When we were kids, my grandmother had shown me and my sister the trains and waistband of her wedding dress. They were fully beaded appliqué and just the most exquisite thing I had ever seen. 'I remembered that so strongly so I immediately went to ask her if she would let me use them,' she said. 'My brand is very sentimental. Everything is imbued with meaning,' she added before revealing her dresses would be the same. 'My grandma's waist is tiny and mine is not tiny at all. So I reinterpreted that into my veil,' she explained. Niamh got all her fashion designer friends to give her small sentimental objects, which she then beaded onto the dress alongside shells from the beaches where she had her first date with Maxi, the one where he proposed, and Irish luck charms. Her 93-year-old grandmother helped with the finishing touches. 'My mum got married in a 1920s-style Zambeesi dress, so I made a cotton Poplin 1920s style tea dress for the reception,' she said. The couple's white Holden Rodeo Ute served as the 'Just Married' vehicle, which was fitted out with handmade decorations made by their friends. 'It's the first car I've ever owned. We bought it together. It's one of these things where every six months we're sure it's about to die,' Niamh said. She begged Maxi to hold onto the car until the wedding. 'I've never felt so famous in my life. Every stranger was waving and beeping at us as we drove off. It was so fun.' The morning after the wedding, the newlyweds were driving home when they got pulled over by New South Wales Police, who threatened to fine them over the decorations - but let them off with a warning. Niamh first met Maxi when he reached out to her to see if she would be interested in doing a photoshoot with him for her Darlinghurst-based independent fashion label. 'There was an instant vibe,' she said. The pair started casually seeing each other, and to Niamh's surprise, when she first visited Maxi's Potts Point apartment — she came face to face with a drawing of herself on his wall. Maxi had unwittingly purchased the artwork from a friend of Niamh's from fashion school, who had recreated her likeness from an old Instagram selfie and sold it to him in a fundraiser for the 2020 Australian bushfires. 'Out of hundreds of drawings, he'd chosen the one of me,' she laughed. 'I realised because I was wearing one of my own designs.' The couple put the drawing in a drawer for three years, lest it was bad luck, but it now has a pride of place in their martial home.
