What to do in your garden in June? Roses, strawberries, weeds
With this in mind, you might be wondering where you need to focus your efforts in June, as the hot weather really kicks in.
From knowing how often you should be watering plants, to caring for your rose bushes and the best homemade spray to keep bugs at bay, there's plenty to be getting on with.
Kris Collins, nursery manager at Suttons, told Country Living: 'June is one of the most exciting months in the garden.
'Everything's growing at full tilt, the days are long, and there's still time to shape the season ahead.
'Whether your plot is container grown on a balcony or a large back garden, there's plenty you can do now to keep it thriving and looking lovely.'
Country Living said: 'Watering becomes critical in June, particularly for containers and any newly planted specimens.
But if you're wondering how often and the exact time of day you should water your plants, Kris added: 'Aim to water early in the morning or late evening to reduce evaporation.
'This is also a key month for feeding. Use a high-potash feed for flowering plants, and a nitrogen-rich fertiliser for leafy greens.'
As Aphids, slugs, and caterpillars appear more than usual in the warmer weather, Kris shares it's important to 'keep an eye out and act early".
'Squash aphids by hand or spray with soapy water, and use nematodes for slugs.
'Companion planting, like popping marigolds in your vegetable plot, can also help keep pests away.'
Keen gardeners should remember to feed and water strawberry plants, but 'make sure you cover them with net as soon as the berries appear, to ensue the birds don't get to your precious crop first,' according to Country Living.

As the high temperatures appear in June, 'increase watering of any newly-planted roses to every other day, and established plants to once a week'.
Country Living also suggests that if you have roses planted up in pots, you will need to water them every day if the hot weather continues.
It added: 'Check for any signs of pests and diseases, as there is a greater chance of infestation in hot weather.
'Roses are hungry plants so remember to give them a liquid feed high in potash every two weeks to keep the blooms coming.
'Continue to deadhead roses to keep them looking their best. This will encourage more blooms, especially later in the year if they are a variety that has a second flush.'
Have you noticed your grass growing fast due to the warm weather and many spells of rain?
Try to mow your lawn once a week, 'raising the blade during dry spells to avoid stressing the grass,' Country Living reveals.
The home and garden experts said: 'Keep a hoe on hand to stop weeds multiplying, especially after a few days of rain combined with warm weather, when they will sprout even more rapidly.
'Weeds can quickly take over the garden by the time June arrives, so it's important to keep them in check.'
Introducing the RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year: Philadelphus Petite Perfume Pink 🌸 Over 10 years in the making, this is the world's first ever pink Philadelphus. The RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year celebrates outstanding plants with a new or improved feature. Each year, exhibitors in the Great Pavilion at RHS Chelsea are invited to submit new plants to the competition ahead of the Show. Entries are carefully considered by a shortlisting panel of RHS and industry experts, who whittle down the number of contenders to less than 20. These shortlisted plants then go on to be displayed at the Show where, on Press Day, members of our RHS Expert Groups view them and elect a winner. The Groups' decision is based on three criteria: novelty and innovation, garden performance, and likely appeal for UK gardeners. The final vote is informed by the entry information submitted ahead of the Show, and the 'wow' factor of the plants on display, which the Philadelphus Petite Perfume Pink has in abundance!
Additionally, the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) recommends the following garden jobs to have a go at this month, including:

If you haven't added any new flowers to your garden yet, there's no need to panic as you still have time, according to Topsoil Shop.
The garden specialists explained: 'It is, in fact, very much the case that in milder areas tender bedding plants should be planted out in late May or even early June.
'This is to ensure that they are not destroyed by harsh weather conditions.
'With this in mind you can still take the opportunity to plant for this summer now and this is perhaps the best possible time to plant tender bedding plants such as begonias and salvias.'

Forget White Trainers – Every Fashion Person Is Only Wearing This Colour Now
The year is 2011. Phoebe Philo - fashion's messiah, quiet commander and Céline's creative director - is closing her show. But this time, the moment of impact isn't stitched into hemlines or cut into tailoring. It's walking out with her. As she takes her final bow, the designer steps out in a uniform that's become something of a cut in itself: skinny jeans, a roll-neck (hair tucked in - a noted Philo-ism), and a white, conspicuously unbothered pair of Adidas Stan Smiths. Within a few moments, the groundwork had been laid for what was set to become the bestselling trainer of the last decade. Phoebe Philo at the Celine Autumn/Winter '11 show. ©Getty What followed was a golden age of '70s sneaker renaissance: an era of trainers that looked as if they might have belonged to the cooler sibling in a Wes Anderson film. The fashion set, Victoria Beckham, Raf Simons - and Philo again in 2014 - all stealthily contributed to the rise of the retro trainers, legitimising them in virtually every setting, with the exception, perhaps, of global politics. (Justin Trudeau, we're looking at you). Fast forward to now, and the retro sneaker hype hasn't lost its footing. If anything, it's sprinting ahead: take Wales Bonner's bonafide collaboration with Adidas, for example, which continues to sell out on sight, or look at the craze caused by Onitsuka Tiger's Mexico trainers. We've seen so many Stan Smith revivals or sportswear brands reissuing iconic styles from their archives (hello, Puma Speed Cats). Dries Van Noten has created vintage-inspired trainers, which are a masterclass in scarcity marketing, and if you're reading this, chances are that you, too, own a pair of Adidas Sambas - whether they're still in or not. The point is, retro trainers are the piece of footwear to which we'll never want to say goodbye. But in 2025, there's a notable caveat: all-white kicks no longer make the cut. Call it the limit of ubiquity, their cool having fallen victim to the trends inflation rate, or the fact that they have suffered death by repetition on mums at the school gate (and the cropped, skinny trousers and ankle socks combo didn't help). But, a piece of good news, the industry's tastemakers are switching things up. And if Philo were to give her stamp of approval today? Chances are, it would go to pale yellow sneakers. Already shot out into the mainstream by hamstring-bracing shorts king, Harry Styles, who wore Prada's skinny sole, collapsible heel style out for a stroll this summer, the sunshine-bright shoes aren't hard to find. Loewe's cult-y On collaboration brought forth a pair that fashion editors have bookmarked and backordered. Maison Margiela's newly-launched 'Sprinters' have arrived in a beige-could-be-sun-bleached-yellow colourway, and as for 'The Tennis' by Jacquemus in suede lemon sorbet? Practically extinct in popular sizes. From L-R: Jacquemus' The Tennis trainers; Loewe X On Cloudventure 2.0 trainers So, what's the takeaway? A happy trainer equals a happy life? Maybe. Or, perhaps, the trend pendulum has swung and we've temporarily eschewed white trainers for something with a bit more character until the oversaturated stampede of alpina white shoes has died down again. Either way, if you're contemplating a trainer upgrade this summer, might we gently suggest opting for a dopamine-inducing shot of colour for your feet? Scroll on to shop our favourite pairs below. 1. Golf Wag Paulina Gretzky sends fans wild in lacy lingerie in loved-up photoshoot with Dustin Johnson before US Open
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) FANS reckon loved-up snaps showed Paulina Gretzky at her daring best - but teased her husband Dustin Johnson for baring his chest! The golf Wag and the US Open hopeful wore white for a photoshoot, with Gretzky in lacy lingerie and DJ wearing an open white suit without a shirt. 8 She's a golden girl on social media Credit: Instagram @paulinagretzky 8 Gretzky went all summery in Florida in April Credit: instagram @ paulinagretzky 8 The influencer dazzled all in lime in this leafy setting "Cutest couple in the world," said one of her Gretzky's million Instagram followers. But others joked that Johnson let the side down in what were otherwise classy pics by parading his hairy torso. The LIV star, 40, is back at Oakmont Country Club this week for the first time since he won the US Open in 2016. And mischievous fans hope he will be better 'suited' to the greens than he was to dressing elegantly. Actress Gretzky, who married DJ in 2022, dazzled as she pouted in the pics with the two-time Major winner. The 36-year-old lay across Johnson in one photo as he sat on a white couch. And she cosied up to him as they hugged in another snap. Gretzky's contented expression in both pics mirrored her accompanying words when she shared them on social media. 8 Gretzky wed Dustin Johnson in 2022 and they have two kids Credit: Getty "Nobody else," she wrote. However, Johnson appeared to have a more serious look - which fans pounced on. Paulina Gretzky trolls Dustin Johnson's basketball skills as couple shoot hoops at their multi-million dollar mansion One responded: "Haha DJs face makes these pictures so good!" Another amused observer said: "He definitely looks thrilled to be doing this!" Most fans, however, adored the photos without question. One said: "These are the BEST pics!" and another added: "DJ is a very lucky man!!" That just left the thorny issue of Johnson's unbuttoned suit top... One fan claimed: "The chest hair undershirt was a wild choice." And another wrote: "Love them - but urgh….at least wear a white T-shirt under that jacket dude." But as the former world no.1 attempts to overcome his patchy recent form with US Open silverware, perhaps he's hoping it's a case of "hair today, gong tomorrow"!
