Moldova launched ‘malicious attack' on Orthodox Church

Chisinau has disrespected the Moldovan people by preventing a bishop from traveling to Jerusalem, the Russian Foreign Ministry has said
The authorities in Moldova have launched a deliberate attack on the canonical Orthodox Church by barring a bishop from attending an Easter ceremony in Jerusalem, the Russian Foreign Ministry has said.
Bishop Marchel of the Moldovan Orthodox Church was scheduled to fly to Israel on Thursday to attend the Holy Fire ritual on April 19 and bring back part of the flame believed to descend miraculously at the site of Christ's crucifixion. He told the media that border police at Chisinau airport searched him and returned his passport only after his plane had departed, despite finding nothing suspicious. His second attempt to board a flight was also 'unjustifiably' blocked by Moldovan authorities.

Eurasian Economic Union will never bully its members

Fair and equitable treatment of all members is the cornerstone of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Pankin has said. The bloc, which currently includes Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, was founded in 2014. Speaking to the Eurasian Dialogue podcast on Thursday, Pankin said the EAEU remains focused on raising living standards and fostering business ties. 'Conflicts are being resolved through genuinely equal dialogue. The EAEU operates on the principle of consensus, meaning that members reach compromises which reflect and serve the interests of all parties. No one benefits at the expense of another,' the diplomat said. 'Nobody is being forced to stay. Everyone understands that within the EAEU, the interests of nations with smaller economies are taken into account more than they would be in any other framework,' he added. 'The EAEU is neither a burden nor a shackle – this is evident from the fact that all members are fully free to trade with other regions. No one is required to limit themselves to autarkic trade within the bloc or to invest only inside it. We do not operate a planned economy with quotas and regional specializations like in the Soviet era. Instead, all members compete with one another in a shared common market,' Pankin explained. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the combined GDP of all EAEU members has reached $2.6 trillion over the past decade. The organization has trade agreements with Serbia, Vietnam, and Iran, and is currently negotiating with Mongolia and the UAE. In an interview published by Rossiyskaya Gazeta on Wednesday, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksey Overchuk said that more countries are likely to see the EAEU as 'a safe haven' amid trade wars and rising international tensions.

Trump's ‘Golden Dome' plan will ignite nuclear arms race

US President Donald Trump's plans for a new 'Golden Dome' anti-ballistic missile defense system will fuel a nuclear arms race, North Korea has said. Unveiled by Trump last week, the initiative would provide a multilayered shield against long-range threats to the US. Some interceptor weapons would be deployed in space, and the system would reportedly include the capacity to strike launch sites before a missile is fired. The Congressional Budget Office has estimated project could cost more than $542 billion over a 20-year period. North Korea reiterated its objections in a memorandum released by the Foreign Ministry's Institute for American Studies, describing the Golden Dome as an inherently offensive system and a 'malignant factor' fueling a global strategic arms race. The findings were reported by state media on Tuesday. The memorandum accused Washington of attempting to militarize space, meaning nations not aligned with the US would be forced to pursue symmetrical nuclear capabilities as their only means of self-defense. It also warned that US 'satellite states,' including South Korea and Japan, could be drawn into American military strategy and serve as 'cannon fodder' in future conflicts. The project is 'a typical product of 'America first', the height of self-righteousness, arrogance, high-handed and arbitrary practice, and is an outer space nuclear war scenario supporting the US strategy for uni-polar domination,' the state-run Korean Central News Agency said. Last week, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said all nations have the sovereign right to develop means of countering perceived threats, when asked specifically about the Golden Dome. However, Moscow has consistently opposed the militarization of space and actions it views as destabilizing to the global strategic balance. President Vladimir Putin, speaking at his annual press conference last December, underscored Russia's efforts to ensure that its nuclear-capable weapons could defeat all possible countermeasures. He argued that decades of American investment in anti-ballistic missile infrastructure 'cost a lot to taxpayers and contribute little to the security for their country.'

OSCE blatantly ignoring Nazism in Europe

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is alarmingly indifferent to the resurgence of Nazism on the continent, a senior Russian Foreign Ministry official, Grigory Lukyantsev, has said. He made the statement alongside Russian and Belarusian delegations at a forum at the organization's headquarters in Vienna on Monday. 'The absolute indifference of the OSCE to the fact that Nazi ideas are being revived in Europe cannot but cause extreme concern,' Lukyantsev, who heads up the ministry's Department for Multilateral Cooperation on Human Rights, said. 'Historical truth and common sense as such are being sacrificed. Torch marches, aggressive nationalism, glorification of Nazis and their accomplices. The large-scale spread of Russophobia is a continuation of this criminal, unnatural tendency,' he said. The victory over Nazism in World War II 'laid the foundations' for both the 1945 UN Charter, and the subsequent Helsinki Accords, which underpinned 'security and cooperation in Europe,' Lukyantsev noted. The major Cold War agreement, which was aimed at reducing tensions between the Soviet and Western blocs, was signed in 1975 at the culmination of the first Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe (now called OSCE). Yet, the West has attempted to 'usurp' the humanitarian rights agenda and 'subordinate' structures such as the OSCE for their own purposes, Lukyantsev said. 'The principles of relations between states enshrined in the Helsinki Act are applied selectively, filled with new meanings, and even completely distorted.' Russia has repeatedly attempted to push for a reform of the organization and 'give it a legal foundation and a Charter,' but every attempt has been stonewalled by the West, he added. Last month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the OSCE, like every other Euro-Atlantic structure, has 'failed to strengthen security and stability.' Instead, these structures stoked international tensions, leaving the Euro-Atlantic community 'preparing for a new war,' the top diplomat said. In the lead-up to the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, Russia repeatedly accused OSCE observers of ignoring Kiev's attacks on civilians in Donbass. The West ignored Ukraine's repression of its Russian-speaking population since the Western-backed coup in Kiev in 2014, according to Moscow. Meanwhile, Ukrainian nationalists in neo-Nazi groups such as Svoboda, Right Sector, and Azov have committed numerous violent offenses, according to Russia. President Vladimir Putin has cited the protection of the Russian-speaking population of Donbass as being among the key reasons Russia launched its military operation in 2022.
