Neil Burger
, who is known for his projects like 'The Illusionist', and 'Limitless', expressed his admiration for
Indian cinema
, Bollywood superstar
Shah Rukh Khan
and shared his shooting experience in the national capital for his film 'Inheritance'.
In a conversation with ANI, he said, "I love Delhi. I like Mumbai as well. I really like everywhere. I'm fascinated with India and there's so much to explore. But, you know, we chose to shoot in Delhi to set the story or part of the story in Delhi."
He added on what he liked about the country, saying, "What was exciting about it... there's sort of this sense of mystery and wonder in India, certainly for a Western person still...There
are people who are incredibly friendly and incredibly generous. And there was an excitement on the street and that's what we were looking for in the movie to get this kind of energy of life as lived. And, I think we were very successful with that.
"
'Inheritance' is an American espionage thriller film directed by Neil Burger from a screenplay he co-wrote with Olen Steinhauer, starring Phoebe Dynevor and Rhys Ifans.
While expressing his admiration for Indian food, its culture and people, the ace director added, "Our experience was incredible. Actually, it was I mean, I love Indian food. So that was amazing. I don't think I'm enough of an aficionado to know the difference between, Delhi food and, some other cities food. We had a great crew and fantastic actors. Then just the setting is so cinematic, so visual and and so dynamic. So our experience was phenomenal.
"
'The Illusionist' director opened on the family bond with the country and why India is so special for him and his wife, Diana Kellogg, "My wife is an architect and designed a very beautiful girls' school in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. And so she's been working on that for 10 years and coming to India over and over. And India has been and its people have been so welcoming to her and so generous with her. And I think that she is just has a love affair.
So we feel like we have this special relationship with India. I love Indian food like naan and roti. And so it was important to me to set this particular sequence in India because of it."
He added that he is fond of Indian cinema and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, "I do." follow Indian cinema, and actors like "Shah Rukh Khan". "I've seen lots of (Indian) movies and I'm fascinated with them," he shared.
He spoke about his film, 'Inheritance' and how he conceived the idea behind it.
Burger came up with the idea for the film during the Covid-19 pandemic, and it has an international scope despite being shot completely on an iPhone.
"It really came out of Covid originally, I wanted to see, like how the world was being affected by Covid and what the new normal was, I didn't want to make a documentary. I'm a narrative filmmaker. So I wanted to create a story that kind of took us to these different cultures just to see how people were reacting.
Now, films take a long time to get made....So we created this story that went around the world from New York to Cairo to New Delhi to Seoul and then back to New York.
"
The filmmaker, who shot the thriller with an iPhone, shared, "When you travel around with a film crew, lots of trucks and lots of equipment and lots of people you disrupt the normal kind of routine of life. And so people end up looking at you. Whereas I wanted to, from this original idea, see the world, look at the world.
I came up with this idea that I would shoot it on an iPhone , not as a gimmick, not merely as a substitute for a motion picture camera, but because we could walk through a crowded Delhi market and nobody would look at us because no no lights, no boom mics, just like somebody walking seemingly next to their friend.
For all anybody knew they were shooting some social media, something rather. And it was a very effective way to do it.
A very small crew kept the crew away. We were very quick with what we were doing. So it was a unique way to shoot it and it has a unique energy because of that."
He recalled working with Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper in science-fiction thriller film, 'Limitless', saying, "Working with De Niro, who has always been a hero of mine, it became very, suddenly you're in the room and he's right here and you're giving him direction.
And all you're thinking about his incredible roles. The amazing thing about Robert De Niro..is that he wants to collaborate. He's not in a place where he's like, well, I just know what I'm doing and I know what what's the right thing.
He actually wants to, work with the director and build a character together. And then with Bradley Cooper, we were doing there's a crazy stunt where he like runs in front of a truck and almost gets hit by it.
And he ran in front of a truck and almost got, hit by it. And so it's fantastic, this sort of commitment that these guys make. And it was one of my favorite films that I've made. And it was it was amazing to make it."
On talking about his other projects, he shared, "I made a movie called 'The Illusionist' (2006) a number of years ago with Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti, and Jessica Biel and I and I'm actually turning it into a TV series, expanded it into a TV series. So I'm actually writing. And now I'm sort of working on the next episodes, which have been really fun..."

Maharani Radhikaraje Gaekwad of Baroda takes a dig at Ishaan Khatter-Bhumi Pednekar's The Royals: ‘The Royal Ignore'

When Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar's The Royals premiered on Netflix on May 9, it sparked varied reactions from viewers. While some appreciated the series' visual appeal, others criticised its storyline. Now, Maharani Radhikaraje Gaekwad of Baroda has publicly criticised the show for misrepresentation of modern-day royals. Taking to her Instagram, Radhikaraje penned a long note emphasizing that many royals are active contributors to India's cultural and social landscape. She expressed her disappointment in how the ladies of the royal family were presented on screen. Taking to her Instagram on Thursday, Radhikaraje Gaekwad shared a long note with the headline, 'The Royal Ignore.' She further wrote, 'One would imagine the royals of India, a community abundantly chronicled, photographed, biographed, and today well positioned in a range of arenas from politics, hospitality, to magazine covers, would have a better chance of surviving an on screen portrayal such as the one in The Royals. Alas, that was not be and such is our fate, since 1947.' Radhikaraje said stereotyping Rajas soaked in whiskey and profligacy and Ranis in chiffons and pearls, was a politically motivated propaganda that began post independence and unfortunately continues to define them, hinting at the portrayals of the royals in the Netflix series. A post shared by Radhikaraje Gaekwad (@radhikaraje) Defending her community, Radhikaraje Gaekwad went on to list several good things the royals did both pre- and post-independence. She wrote, 'In truth India's independence saw the dissolution of centuries old, internationally recognised Indian monarchy. Sardar Patel correctly referred it as a 'Bloodless Revolution'. 565 princely states controlling over 40 per cent of pre independence India handed over their homes, lands, and identities for the creation of a united, democratic country. Apart from a handful that resisted and disappointedly left.' Calling it an era of uncertainty for families that had lived for centuries with privileges, Radhikaraje wrote, 'They had for most parts administered their princely states, many the size of smaller European countries, and often more prosperous too with benevolence and acumen. And history is proof of this.' ALSO READ | The Traitors trailer: Karan Johar's reality show turns savage as Uorfi Javed, Raj Kundra, Apoorva Mukhija play dirty. Watch She added, 'Undoubtedly, there were a few bad royal apples and I make no excuse for them, yet while monarchs rose and fell in China and younger empires such as France, Russia, and Austria, India has the unique distinction of being one of the only countries where royals reigned for centuries without any known instances of revolt or assassination. And when time came, they relinquished their kingdoms with dignity.' Radhikaraje Gaekwad highlighted the time when Indian royals faced the abolition of allowance in return for giving up their sovereignty, going through a difficult time in 1971. Taking a dig at The Royals, Radhikaraje wrote, 'India has also seen some of their finest statesmen, diplomats, wildlife conservationists, bureaucrats, army officers, educationists, sportsmen, hoteliers and entrepreneurs emerge from royalty and today our places, forts and museums are perhaps the last few sentinels of India's undiluted, apolitical patronage and cultural history, all maintained in our personal capacity. Yet after all these decades, our own country continues to view us — all 565 families and a few thousand nobility, with an odd mixture of awe, ignorance, and distaste.' She added, 'The real Royals in the meanwhile have rolled up their sleeves and are running India's best known music festivals, museums, hotels, even constituencies and states — an impressive number being the ladies of the house — Gwalior, Jaipur, Bikaner, and Kotah to name a few. Ouch to purdah and patriarchy!' At last, taking a dig at Ishaan Khatter's character in the series, Radhikaraje wrote, 'The young royals too are returning to their roots armed with degrees from universities around the world. They proudly staddle the two worlds, speak their mother tongue, wear their turbans but work to make their heritage sustainable, relatable, accessible. For they know if not them, no one else can.' Radhikaraje Gaekwad's post drew widespread praise for the grace with which she expressed her opinion. Her note came after the makers announced a second season of the series, sparking debate online.

‘Shabana Azmi and I sleep on streets': Javed Akhtar claps back at Pak actor Bushra Ansari's comment that no rents him a house in India

Weeks after Pakistani actress Bhushra Ansari's comment against Javed Akhtar, the veteran lyricist-writer has reacted to it. In a recent interview, Javed Akhtar gave a befitting reply to Bhushra's 'Inhe Mumbai mein koi ghar pe rent nahi deta' comment. He asked, 'Who are you to tell me when to talk and when to not?' In an interview with Lallantop, Javed Akhtar shared, 'There is this Pakistani actress, Bushra Ansari, she often talks about me. She once advised me to keep quiet. She said something like, 'Naseeruddin Shah stays quiet, you should too.' My question to her is: 'Who is she to tell me when to talk and when not to? Who gave you this right and why do you expect me to take your advise?'' He added, 'We internally might have several problems (referring to India), but if an outsider comes to comment, I am an Indian. Why do they forget that? I won't keep quiet.' When the interviewer said the the actress claimed that he doesn't even get a house on rent in Mumbai, Javed sarcastically replied, 'Yes right, Shabana and I have been sleeping on the streets lately. Kya yaar, ab kya bole?' He laughed as he said. In the same interview, Javed Akhtar recalled the incident that prompted her to take a dig at them for not getting a house on rent. He said, 'About 25 years ago, Shabana wanted to buy a flat for investment purpose. But the broker said that the owner will not sell his house to a Muslim. But, do you know why he refused? He refused it because his parents stayed in Sindh from where these Pakistanis shooed them away. Anyone with a wound that big and deep, will react the way the owner reacted. If that day, Shabana was refused a flat, it was not because she was a Muslim, but it was because the owner was displacing his revenge someplace else for what his parents went through. So who is she (Bushra Ansari) to take a dig at this, and ask me to keep quiet? They must look into their own doings before commenting.' On April 22, when the news of a terrorist group killing about 26 tourists in the Baisaran meadows of Pahalgam came in light, the entire nation went in shock. This sparked several reactions from Indians. Many actors, politicians and internet personalities went on to condemn this act and demanded justice. Similarly, veteran lyricist-writer gave a powerful speech at Gauravshaali Maharashtra Mahotsav. Speaking at the event, Javed Akhtar said, 'Yeh baat humein bhulni nahi chahiye, yeh mamooli baat nahi hai. (We shouldn't forget this).' Following his speech, Pakistani actress Bushra Ansari attacked him on social media and said, 'Humare writer so-called, unko toh bahana hi chahiye tha. Actually, unko toh makaan kiraaye pe nahi milta tha Bombay mein (Our so called writer is even refused a flat in Mumbai).' She added, 'Chaloji chup karjaaye aap. Naseeruddin Shah bhi toh hai, who chup baithe hai na? Aur bhi toh chup baithe hai na? Jiske dil mein jo hai who rakkha rahe. (Please stay quiet just like Naseeruddin Shah. Others are also quiet, you too be quiet please).'

Last Updated: Salman Khan-hosted Bigg Boss 19 is expected to run for nearly six months. Bigg Boss Season 19 is gearing up for a dramatic return, promising some of the biggest changes in its history. With Salman Khan continuing as the host, fans are brimming with excitement, eager to know every detail from the premiere date to the new format and the anticipated contestant list. This season, the show is taking a bold step forward. Bigg Boss 19 is expected to run for nearly six months, extending well beyond its usual three-month timeline. This makes it the longest season in the show's history. But that's not all, another major shift lies in the casting approach. In contrast to recent seasons that introduced digital influencers and YouTubers, this time the makers are returning to a celebrity-only format. The focus will be on bringing established television and Bollywood personalities into the house. Among the many speculated names, a buzz that has caught everyone's attention is the entry of the power couple—Ram Kapoor and Gautami Kapoor. According to an Instagram post by TellyChakkar, the couple who have successful careers in both television and Bollywood, have reportedly been approached for Bigg Boss 19. However, no official confirmation has been made yet. The post features a picture of the couple with the caption: 'According to sources, Ram Kapoor and his wife Gautami Kapoor have been approached to participate in the upcoming season of Bigg Boss 19." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Tellychakkar Official ® (@tellychakkar) As expected, the internet couldn't keep calm. Fans flooded the comments section with a mix of reactions. One user wrote, 'Ram & Gautami on Bigg Boss 19? Now this is the power couple we didn't know we needed. Let the drama begin!" Another urged, 'Please don't touch this happily married couple. God, leave them!" It remains to be seen whether the couple will accept the invitation and step into the most unpredictable house on Indian television. If they do, audiences will be eager to watch how their real-life bond plays out amid the chaos and drama that Bigg Boss is known for. For those unfamiliar with their story, Ram Kapoor and Gautami Kapoor tied the knot on Valentine's Day in 2003. Their love story began on the sets of Ghar Ek Mandir, where their on-screen chemistry gradually blossomed into an off-screen relationship. As fate would have it, the show titled Ghar Ek Mandir (A House is a Temple) became a beautiful metaphor for their real life, as the two decided to build a 'ghar" together and turn it into their very own 'mandir."
