Delhi Minister Orders Officials To Clear Old Age Pension Cases In 15 Days

Delhi minister Ravinder Indraj Singh on Wednesday directed district social welfare officials to clear all pending cases under the Old Age Pension scheme within 15 days, an official statement said.
Chairing a meeting with officials of his department, the Social Welfare minister instructed them to ensure strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure timely delivery of benefits under various welfare schemes, the statement said.
Mr Singh said he recently conducted surprise inspections at several district offices and interacted with beneficiaries, during which multiple complaints were received.
"Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has clearly instructed that every citizen and beneficiary visiting district offices must be given full support. Applications should be processed within the set timeline and pension payments must be made on time," he said.
Mr Singh also asked officials to expedite decisions on applications under the Family Assistance Scheme and other similar programmes, adding that most beneficiaries under pension and social welfare schemes come from economically weaker and marginalised communities.
"They should not be forced to visit offices repeatedly. District offices represent the government and people's experiences at these centres must be positive and respectful," he said.
The minister further said he will continue to conduct unannounced inspections at both district offices and the department's headquarters.
Mr Singh asked senior officers to take strict action against any official found responsible for delays or negligence based on complaints.

Indian-origin Singaporean blogger fined for posting racial remarks on TikTok
An Indian-origin blogger in Singapore was fined SGD 6,000 (about ₹4 lakh) on Friday (June 6, 2025) after he pleaded guilty to one charge of knowingly committing an act which promoted disharmony between different racial groups in the country through a post on TikTok. Manmeet Singh's post came after he received a link from an unknown person with the alleged offensive content, Channel News Asia reported. Mr. Singh (57), then posted a commentary about the content without verifying its authenticity. In the commentary on TikTok, Mr. Singh claimed that Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo had made offensive remarks against Malays, a mostly Muslim community which accounts for about 15% of Singapore's six million-plus population. He removed it once he realised that he had been "led on" by the unknown person, his lawyers told the court. Mr. Singh is a blogger who posts about socio-political issues on TikTok, among other social media platforms. He posted the offending content on TikTok on August 12, 2024. The blog post alleged that Ms. Teo, when asked about racial progress during an interview with Chinese media on Singapore's 59-year development, had made an offensive remark against Malays last year. Ms. Teo is of Chinese descent. At the time of the offences, Mr. Singh's TikTok account had around 9,054 followers. The video prompted Mr. Teo's colleagues and a reporter to ask the Minister about it. Around four hours after the video was published, Ms. Teo told her Press Secretary about it. The Press Secretary then downloaded a copy of the video and lodged a police report. Later that day, Mr. Singh suspected the allegations were false and removed the TikTok video. He then posted another video in which he apologised to Ms. Teo, noting that his previous allegation was probably false. Mr. Singh was arrested on February 4, 2025, and released on bail the next day. The defence lawyers said that Singh was "racked with guilt" over his actions. "Manmeet is not in the business of making his videos for profit or clout. His content is akin to an extension of himself and his views, which he shares because he feels responsible for raising awareness," said the lawyers. Mr. Singh has since "deliberately steered clear of associating with other politicians to avoid controversy", the lawyers said. He also actively vets his news sources. For promoting racial disharmony, Mr. Singh could have been jailed for up to three years, fined, or both.

New Delhi [India], June 6 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson RP Singh on Friday alleged that the Congress-led Karnataka government was trying to make the police in the RCB stampede incident. 'Karnataka government is just trying to make the Karnataka Police a scapegoat.... they are trying to put their blame on the police,' Singh told ANI. He further stated that the celebrations for the win of the RCB team were supposed to be held on Sunday but were adanced by the government, which resulted in the death of the people. New Delhi: On the final day of Urban Adda 2025—a three-day conclave convened by the Raahgiri Foundation in collaboration with the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), Gurujal, and Nagarro—a thought-provoking panel titled, 'Imagining Water Secure Cities' placed the spotlight firmly on India's urban water emergency. Held on World Environment Day, the session served as both a call to action and a showcase of innovation amid worsening water stress across India's expanding cities. The panel, moderated by urban affairs specialist Vandana Menon, brought together leading voices in governance, community action, corporate innovation, and creative media. Street vendors, grocery stores, and even high-end delivery services are routinely seen flouting the norms. Plastic waste clogs stormwater drains and chokes water bodies, further complicating water management and sanitation efforts. Residents and environmentalists have repeatedly flagged this issue, demanding stricter action and better alternatives. Even in upscale sectors, residents spend thousands each week on water sourced through private tankers, many of which draw from illegal borewells. These tankers are not only expensive but often unregulated, raising serious questions about quality and health safety. Officials from the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram admit that enforcement is weak, particularly in unauthorised colonies where tanker operators face little to no checks. In Gurugram, the urgency of the discussion found particularly sharp resonance. Despite ongoing awareness campaigns, massive investment in infrastructure, and regulatory directives from multiple agencies, the city continues to face rampant misuse and commodification of water. Every summer, hundreds of residential colonies fall prey to an entrenched water tanker mafia that thrives amid the city's chronic water shortages.
