'We hope to play a key and prominent role in the pilot training, especially in the development of carrier-based aircraft pilots,' Lin said.
The Fujian, the country's most advanced carrier, finished its sixth sea trial in early January after its launch in June 2022.
Its cutting-edge electromagnetic catapult system allows for the launch of heavier and more advanced aircraft, such as the airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft KJ-600, and supports more frequent and rapid sorties.
It is expected the Fujian will also carry catapult capable J-15T fighter jets, the fifth-generation J-35 stealth fighter.

Apple's most sweeping software redesign disappoints mainland Chinese consumers

Apple on Monday previewed a new software interface design, called Liquid Glass , during the company's annual Worldwide Developers Conference held at its US headquarters in Cupertino, California. For the very first time, the new design extends across Apple's different operating systems – iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26, watchOS 26 and tvOS 26 – which have been rebranded to mark the coming year, rather than a version number. Chinese consumers, however, expressed their disappointment with the new design, as the hashtag 'iOS26 Ugly' became the top-trending topic on Chinese microblogging app Weibo on Tuesday. The platform saw more than 20,000 mainland netizens express their discontent over the new design. Yan Binglu, a 22-year-old iPhone user from Chengdu, capital of southwestern Sichuan province, said she was now rethinking a plan to upgrade her smartphone this year because she found the new interface unappealing. 'This new system looks less beautiful than before,' Yan said. 'I have always updated to the latest iOS on my phone, but I will stay with my current version of iOS this time.'

New university under mysterious PLA force to offer training in AI, unmanned operations

A new university under the Chinese military's mysterious Information Support Force plans to offer training in artificial intelligence (AI), unmanned operations and other key technology, according to its first public enrolment notice. Advertisement The People's Liberation Army (PLA) Information Support Force Engineering University in the central city of Wuhan will offer 10 undergraduate majors in information and intelligent technology, according to a Thursday report by state broadcaster CCTV. It added that students who have taken the college entrance exam and passed political evaluations may apply this month. According to the report, the school will also offer more traditional disciplines such as communication engineering, allowing students to study electromagnetic fields and wave propagation, satellite communication and 6G technology to cultivate commanding officers who can understand, operate and design communication systems. A new data link engineering major, designed for 'informationised, intelligent, and unmanned operations in modern warfare', will teach students about signals and systems, information fusion and processing, and data link technology. This technology is used on missiles, warships, fighter jets and early warning aircraft systems, according to CCTV. China eyes 10 new national data zones in digital economy push, AI race with US

China will establish 10 national data pilot zones, its data agency announced, as the country seeks to bolster its digital economy and compete with the United States in the race to dominate artificial intelligence The National Data Administration (NDA) said the zones would be established in Beijing, Zhejiang, Anhui and other regions. The initiative encourages select local governments to spearhead efforts 'in nurturing data-related market entities and expanding the data market', according to the state broadcaster CCTV. The zones also intend to 'unlock the potential of integrating the real economy with the digital economy', the CCTV report said. The move came as China ramps up efforts to tap into the digital economy's growth potential and gain an edge in its intensifying tech rivalry with the United States, especially in the rapidly evolving AI sector. According to CCTV, China had already 'established a comprehensive data industry chain', home to over 190,000 data-related enterprises. The sector's market size had surpassed 2 trillion yuan ($US278.4 billion), with the figure projected to rise to 7.5 trillion yuan by 2030, according to the state broadcaster. A three-year action plan covering 2024 to 2026, released by 17 government agencies, including the NDA, aims to double the volume of data transactions and create over 300 exemplary application scenarios to leverage the multiplier effects of data across sectors.
